Relatively minor thing, but I'm glad they fixed the text rendering on the full version. They've not solved the soft output on performance mode and the HDR tuning is still missing options from the previous game, but at least text isn't inexplicably blurry even in quality mode.
Special mention for the soundtrack - you can tell that it's two of the FF13 composers working on this because there's about five versions of every track and they all seamlessly blend in and out. It's amazing and there hasn't been a dud yet.

Caved and ordered with Game Collection via ebay with a voucher at £52. Really enjoyed part 1 so itching to play part 2!

So the open world guff in this is pretty egregious. Much worse than Remake in terms of padding, I would say. I'm pretty forgiving of maps full of icons and repetitive busywork and I'm already kinda fatigued by it after just 8 hours playtime. It's very much a Ubisoft style approach to open world design as opposed to BotW or Elden Ring, which is a bit disappointing. You're always beelining towards a map marker rather than actually exploring. Even the original FFVII's world map let you find your own way more than this. And yes, there are towers. Am hoping most of the icons can be ignored without missing out on important stuff like key materia. I still might end up hoovering the icons up, it's still early days, but I do think this aspect will put a lot of people off.
Also graphically it's a let down too. I just can't do graphics mode, the low frame rate hurts my eyes, and performance mode is properly blurry.
All that complaining aside, everything that I loved about Remake is here in spades, the great characters, music, story, setting and charm in abundance. Having more characters to control is great, and there are more combat options. Queen's Blood is pretty cool. The positives are outweighing the negatives and I'm very much having a good time so far.

I’m 20 hours in and I’m enjoying it a lot but yeah, the open world stuff can be a bit much. It is often quite high effort though - the stuff about the mini games in particular is deeper than at first glance and also regularly very funny.
In fact the whole game has a lot of humour in it, whether it’s everyone mocking Cloud’s self-seriousness (and when it cracks), the pairings of Aerith/Tifa and Barret/Red bouncing off each other or just the weirdos you meet out in the world, it’s clearly trying its best to be as entertaining as possible as much as possible.

Can someone give me a brief summary of how part 1 ties into this? I am right at the start in the opening village with all my crew (post the chapter 1 / demo stuff) - but I am not sure when the 5 years ago stuff happened - and why are they asking Cloud where he has been for 5 years? Didn’t they all just break out of Midgard at the end of Part 1? When was this cloud has been missing for 5 years thing occur? (I didn’t play the first one).

That’s the same as the original, tifa hadn’t seen him for 5 years since he left for Soldier which is why the whole Kalm flashback section as he remembered it was news to her

Gt to the end of Kalm flashback and was told I had to wait until the rest of the game dowloaded before I could play any further. My mate said to check the pa button download page and it was paused at 40% for some reason. Oh well, resume the download and I’ll be able to play the rest of the game in a mere 15 hours.
What is supposed to be on the disc exactly?

The game has some classic asshole physics, you'll run through a building and just hear clattering behind you as the rest of your party just destroy everything. It's great.

Normally all this map clutter would drive me mad but the fact I'm doing it in this world gets a pass from me.
I'm still only in the first area but they've done a great job realising the old world map.

What screen settings have you all gone for? I locked my ps5 to 1080p and then set to Performance mode in game. Seems good - lots of folks saying “blurry” but I am not really finding it to be an issue.

I’m still outputting at 4K because they fixed the bug from the demo where the text was blurry so at least the HUD is sharp. The game really is very soft though, and as I’ve gone through there are more and more areas where it can’t hold 60. Doesn’t help that VRR doesn’t seem to work either, even though it had some effect in the demo.

I've just kept it on graphics mode it took my eyes to adjust as it didn't feel great but after half an hour I've got used to it.
Get the occasional pop in of textures close up which is a bit disappointing.

The game really needs a 40fps middle ground setting. And VRR support. I’ve been a performance mode guy since the PS5 came out but the drop in image quality is actually huge in this
