Last Friday was my 50th birthday. Physically I am in much better shape than I was at 40, so I don't feel "old". However, today I finally gave in and tried out my late father-in-law's reading glasses. Yup, I need them. The difference is staggering. I thought I could still read small text just fine, but it's actually quite blurry. Also, playing the Switch in handheld it is a game changer (hah!).

Due to having to collect my son from his football training last night, I had a short cycle on Zwift last night for about 30 min at Zone 2 only with 3 or 4 higher cadence 100-110rpm 'sprints' in a lowish gear for about 1min right at the end.
After a night's sleep, my left hip is fucked.
WTF is that about? I have *never* had that happen ever before.
Getting older is shit. ;_;

Hah, same! Turned 50 in March and I'm firmly in the "I can't read this jar, where are my fucking readers" camp now. Physically, I'm ok too. Play in a band and jump around the stage, always seem to be moving or lifting something, but eyes, bless em, need help.

I could do with ear cleaning. I think I've got impacted wax in there. Tried to use olive oil to soften it (as recommended by NHS) but I think that softened it just enough for it to sink in further and resettle

Next time you go on holiday, opt for somewhere at altitude. The stuff that fell out of my earholes after a couple of days made me seriously question how I was ever able to hear before.
The endless terrifying flatulence was also not great.

I get endless terrifying flatulence anyway.
Right now, in fact. Nearly blasted myself off the chair.

The sparky at our work got his ears hoovered out recently, the stuff that came out was apparently grim. He proceeded to tell us about it at length. We were just at the breakout area for a coffee FFS, not a lecture about manky ear cheese. Thankfully, there was no 'show & tell'.

My ears had been blocked for a while. Well the right side was significantly more blocked. It's amazing having it done and everything gets normal again. This time round though it knocked me really dizzy. Enough wax came out for a candle like off Father Ted.

In the meantime I got a pair of prescription reading glasses (+2 with a small cylindrical correction). With a proper frame, so at least they do not look like reading glasses. But now indeed the next problem is "where are my fucking readers?"

The struggle is real! I have about 3 pairs. It's worse when you've had some beers and a smoke.
WHERE THE FUCK ARE THEY?
(They're on my head)

I had my ears syringed out earlier this week. That is it for this weeks old man update. I highly recommend getting your ears syringed or now they use micro-suction to lift it out. It cost me 35 quid for both ears sorted but it was well worth it. Years of wearing headsets, ear buds, over the ear cans have resulted in compacted built up wax. It sounded like a SLOOOOP once the main bit was taken out.

I've bashed up 2 pairs, forgetting they were on my head and falling off into concrete, pebbles etc. With my distance vision also failing, I am seriously thinking of getting some old man straps.

Just wrote a whole post about how that’s not possible until I actually looked up the album release dates…

My 15 year old keeps playing Smells Like Teen Spirit on repeat. She discovered it from an Instagram post, and doesn’t know who Nirvana are.
(Better than hearing the Six musical soundtrack which was previously on repeat, to be fair)

(Better than hearing the Six musical soundtrack which was previously on repeat, to be fair) Get her listening to: Soundgarden (anything CC) AiC, STP, Pearl Jam (anything EV) she will love you for it My sixteen year old loves a lot of music that I listen to, PF, the specials, the Cure, 80's music in general. We have to teach these young-uns about "proper" music not the shite (not all of it granted!) that passes for it nowadays. Goes outside to shake fist at cloud... Oh Yeah!

Honestly I’ve tried, but her mindset at the moment is that if I like something and actively encourage her to like it, it’s uncool. My best chance is playing my own music and hoping she picks up on it and subconsciously gets a preference for that kind of thing while she’s scrolling through Insta. It took years of concerted effort to get her from “playing loud music is bad and embarrassing” to “playing loud music is good actually”, but we got there in the end so there’s still hope.

We're continuing to educate our 2 on all things 80s and 90s. Youngest is more rock and pop, eldest more hip hop and grunge. Sometimes play jukebox on YouTube, taking it in turns to show off good vids or music we want to introduce them to.
