That’s not even a weird attempt at humour. They are genuinely great.

Growing up, my friend was obsessed with jigsaw puzzles and used to buy the kitchen tabletop sized ones so I would sit with him and we’d spend a rainy Sunday afternoon doing some random knackered Devon cottage jigsaw or whatnot.
As we got older, his parents house became the place all us friends would go and hang out. Chat up his sister and whatnot. Stay up very late sometimes crash over on the sofas. He’d still do the jigsaws, but one day he said we couldn’t help. He wanted to do it. So Saturday he sat there and worked away at this frankly ridiculous sized puzzle and got about half of it done.
We sat in the living room and chatted to his sister and Mum. He came and sat with us and the evening drew late.He said he was going to crash out in bed, but we had a film on so we stayed.
The film finished.
Someone mentioned the puzzle.
So with the nod and permission from the sister….myself and my best friend sat at that table and worked through the entire night and finished his puzzle as he slept on upstairs and tiptoed out before he got up.
Anecdotally, several years later he went to jail for killing someone. So that was a lucky escape. I suspect he spent all his life sentence doing those jigsaw puzzles and chuckling at our jigsaw based humour.
I still do the occasional puzzle. I don’t go on a murder spree, I leave that to others.

No, she was a couple of years older and looked just like Joanne Whalley and she was pretty much on another planet compared to us scrotes

However, I still catch up with her once in a while at parties and so forth and… this is no longer the case !

Now she’s as ugly as the rest of us. And no, I wouldn’t, for I can remember the before times. Getting old indeed.
Plus the brother capable of turning me to jigsaw pieces so nope.

It’s strange these days that it seems my parents were possibly more…’with it’ when I was a child then I am. In the early 80s they were listening to music that had just come out - Springsteen, Billy Joel, Tina Turner etc.
I’m still listening to stuff from the 80s and 90s, the equivalent of them listening to stuff from the 50s. There’s some modern stuff too but most of that sounds like it could have been made 30 years ago.

Older stuff is just far more accessible now with internet streaming, etc
There's less emphasis on what is in the charts and playing on the hit parade. I think it's why a lot of the younger generation look to pre-00s for their "nostalgia". If you were born post 2000s everything you know is still readily available on every platform.

Went to a gig last night so thought I'd pretend to be cool and wear my Dr Martens. When I sat on the stairs to pull them on I felt a twinge in my hip. Like a proper stab of pain.

Had a private healthcheck last week and the results have arrived today - making me feel old I am generally in good health, am active (play football twice a week competitively) eat fairly well, but because I am a shortass and stocky my BMI is always high (I have a fair amount of muscle mass according to the report and my visceral fat around the abdomen is low), and am stressed at work so my blood pressure is "high normal" at the moment, my heart disease/stroke assessment came back with a red flag so I need a follow-up with the GP. Also one of my kidney function might not be working as well as it should be and there were traces of protein in my urine test so that's been flagged as well. I'm not hugely concerned, but it's playing on my mind now. The biggest fucker for me though, and I'm hugely pissed about, is that they said my metabolic age is 55 (I'm 41)! I hope there's a specific reason for this, as I'm active, have lost weight this year and other than find it easy to catch colds, I'm in good shape.

It was the kicker today for me, as I'm already stressed about work (just too busy), and money, and now I can add worrying about health to that. YAY!

I really should get a health check but I'm afraid what they'd find out.
Mind, it's near impossible to just get a health check through my GP and unwilling to pay for a private one so I can stay in "I'm fine" mode.
Though tbh I'm 40 in a few months and I think they start to send letters out inviting you to a health check then, so might just wait until that.

It's work that's doing me too. I've got this week off, and just sitting down with a cup of tea and doing nothing for 10 minutes is absolutely bliss.
I'm going to spend the day pottering around on some synths making some music. I might lay the fire later and go for a walk in the village, kicking the leaves, then sit by the fire in the pub for a bit before doing some lazy food.
Just that. That's all I need. You can stick corporate work up your arse.

I find people who don't want to retire weird.
Pottering around, indulging in hobbies, enjoying the peace.
Why would anyone choose being busy over that?
