It's inescapable. Was listening to an Arsenal podcast earlier where the hosts (50 and 36) tried in vain to describe how Tik Tok worked. I knew no more than them but was still excruciating.

I just got off of a Teams meeting (approx 200 participants), a kind of seminar on teens growing up issues, hilarious it had to be abandoned as there was a troll who kept muting the host and about 50 incompetent participants all kept trying to intervene to help the host out, absolute disaster!

I was discussing general life/culture stuff with our PhD student while having a laugh & by god, I felt *very* old.
Major generation gaps/reference fails all over the shop. 😢
Plus, every student we have now, even the postgraduate ones, are basically old enough to be kids of mine. It's painful.

I took the boy down to visit my parents last weekend. They've been in the house they are in now since I was born, so about a million years. We went for a walk into the woods and there's a bit not too far that used to be all farmland, but now it's been turned into a wooded area with a network of paths and shit. All very nice. I did however turn to my boy and say - in complete earnestness - the immortal phrase "I remember when this was all fields".
I still feel sick thinking about it now.

I was having a moan last year when turning 40 and my dad put it into great context for me "imagine how I feel having a 40 year old son". So, yeah, I'm not as stressed about aging as I was.
