I reckon the boy is actually old enough to watch Spaced now. I wonder what the hell he will make of it. I might try him with an episode at the weekend. Thing is, a lot of the referencies are still pretty valid (SW, Matrix, Jurassic Park etc etc) as it's all stuff he's watched recently.

Probably. We watched all the IT Crowd not long ago and he found as much of it confusing and unfunny as he did funny*. The best old thing we've watched has actually been Father Ted, but that is still legitimately hilarious all these years later.
*mind you, it was never amazing in the first place

I'm 40 now but I definitely still act like I'm in my 20s. I'm still out most weeks with friends or my partner, still going to concerts, nightclubs, don't dress like an old woman etc. Sure I'm usually one of the oldest ones there but I really don't care much. Most parents on school run seem to have given up on themselves by now.
I do absolutely detest being 40 though, there is no benefit. My brother swears he prefers being older now. I see no benefit. Sure I have a nicer house and more money now but I'd rather be young thanks.

The thing is I really don't feel old other than occasional reminders, I see the TV ads for over 50s holidays and similar sorts of stuff on TV and it's like that sector hasn't woken up to how different Boomers versus Gen-X in their 50s are.

Old is just a state of mind. Except it's also the state of mind of how other people view you if you're worried about what people might think.
Oh and the physical stuff too.
My wife is younger than me and tries to take the piss if I'm going to a festival with my mates but I think it's more tragic that I wouldn't do the things I enjoy when I actually have the disposable income to enjoy them.
But then she's mentally a retired pensioner despite being so physically fit and healthy.
