There is now a Strava Font Geek Running Club, imaginatively called Font Geek Running Club. Can't work out how to do a link but it's an open club. Come one, come all. Club pic is the winning picture from Life Is Strange. For new page

I was in the old nike+ one, but sadly due to the morton's neuroma that's been plaguing me for the last few years it's about one 5km a week currently, so will probably be a sad sack and sit this one out.
🙁

Were you the guy in the old place who bought a Concept2 and did a shit ton of rowing?

I certainly did.
I think smoothpete was a machine on it and i did a good 10-20km a week for a fair while. PES possibly had one too if memory serves me right.
Still do a little bit of that, but mostly gym & cycling these days. Family life brought time restrictions. Even worse, Old age catches up with you eventually!

I bought a concept 2 a couple of months back. They're addictive. They are. And basically bombproof. We bought a reconditioned one from C2 about 18yrs ago, sold it to someone from a mates rowing club a year or two ago after we bought a newer one from a Norwegian geezer at work who didn't want to ship his one back there. Both still running like new. Ones in gyms are always partially fucked by folk who haven't got a clue though, which always baffles me how they manage to do it. They're pretty idiot proof, but some still seem to manage it!

Yeah my rowing club has a few that are ancient but still going strong. Was a bit nervous as I took mine down there last weekend as we had 15 new kids starting and they wanted as many ERG's there as possible. Christ. Dirty feet all over it, it needed a deep clean when I got it back but otherwise not a scratch. I think the gym ones though are just used by folk that think you need to whack it up to ten and power through as many strokes as possible in any given time, so they get fucked.

I also joined, though I'm currently risking the demise of my old legs via five a side football more than running.

Hey Vort, what's the syncing across Zwift like? I'm still on the old Nike+ puck in my shoe, doesn't upload obv, but I still get the lovely lady in my ear! On the lookout for the next piece of tech to tie in with Zwift ideally when I get my gym kitted out.

Oh man, i only use zwift for cycling in the shittier weather.
They can (i think) sync with treadmills, or there's a foot pod equivalent they sell, but i have no experience with that side of it at all I'm afraid. You'd have to check on some forum or reddit groups that might know i think.

The cycling side of zwift works really well, so I assume the running bit also works well. There's a usually quite alot of folk running in the virtual worlds when i've been online, so it's obviously up to it.

It’s for a bit of camaraderie, not judgement! I’m a shadow of my former self but I’m just happy I’m still able to go out and run tbh.

The cycling side of zwift works really well, so I assume the running bit also works well. There's a usually quite alot of folk running in the virtual worlds when i've been online, so it's obviously up to it. I've just started Zwift Running as it happens, mainly because the weather has been shocking and the wife's been working a lot, so I can't go out in the evenings for my normal run as much I'd like because I need to be home for the kids. Three ways to do it: 1.) Foot pod sensor thingy - Cheap, not very accurate. 2.) Full blown Smart Treadmill - Accurate, expensive. 3.) Runn Treadmill Sensor - Accurate, moderately priced, available from Zwift website. My wife bought me the third option for my birthday recently. It's essentially a sensor housing that bolts to the side of your treadmill and watches for passing sensor strips that you glue to the outer edge of the belt. Run a calibration with an app on your phone and you're away, connect to Zwift. Beyond that it's Zwift as normal, with all the workouts and courses you'd expect. Definitely a bit dead mind you, compared to the cycling. It's free though, which is a nice bonus, running doesn't require a subscription on Zwift currently.

Been following a plan to get under 28 min 5k. I'd done 27 and a half once but that was going downhill, so I challenged myself to go the reverse of the route and do uphill.
27 min 12 seconds and I grumble at the 12 sec as that was taken by fannying around at a junction for idiot drivers.

Got some new runners last week, turns out I'm not just older and fatter. I mean I am but my times have shot way back up. Clocking several sub 4 30 km in the last few runs and generally easily staying sub 5 even uphill.
The other runners were obviously fecked

28:40 in the Great North 5K tonight
Happy with that, I never break the 30 barrier when I run similar distances at home. And it was about a million degrees once you got moving and a sweat on.

Done a few (slowish) 10k's of late and whisper it, but I think I might have shaken off the morton's neuroma that has plagued me me for the last 4 years or so.
Result!
Unless it comes back once i do a few more, but only doing one longer run per week to try to limit the battering on the feet.
