Oh btw, i was in markies earlier & saw they were selling packs of mini colin the caterpillar faces- could be the occasional alternative snack from the usual jellybeans etc when on the longer training runs?

Shit yes. I could essentially have a utility belt full of them.

Definitely. I seem to (i hope) have got past the morton's neuroma issues i was having. Back up to 7k, so no marathons for me, but just happy to be running pain free! Hopefully, get back to about 8-10km, then I'll be praying it doesn't return like last time I thought i was through it. I'm a radiographer IRL and one of my favourite typos in an x-ray request was "? Moron's neuroma"

😀 It could also be that.
I'm sure my wife would agree with that diagnosis.

Worst thing is, that she got it first, i slagged her off for getting old, then karma came calling.
Guess who has had it for far longer. Muggins here. 😢

Did my first organised event since junior inter-school cross country today. 10k over hilly trails in 1hr 4min. Most of the route was on ground that was as close to pathed as you can get on gravel on baked dirt so it was pretty solid going throughout.
My dream finish was sub-1hr but the 3k continuous climb through the middle put an end to that.

Almost four months without running now and my shin splints are almost healed. Still a tiny bit of soreness and swelling though. It's amazing how slow the healing process has been. But I can now at least go for long walks and do a bit of biking and rowing. Hopefully gonna try some (very) short runs next month.

Christ, just did a 14 mile route that I haven't done for three years. That was horrific. Well, the first four miles were, seeing as how they were all up hill. After mile 1 my legs just wanted to go home.
I used to devour this route as well. I've got my work cut out for me.

Hope so! I'll be adding half a mile to this route every week so I better get used to that hill again...

Woo! Just done a 10k and took 2.40 of last year's time so happy with that, though nowhere near back to my peak. Time for some recovery pints now. More races should be attached to breweries. 🍻

I'm still getting my distances back up oh-so-slowly since my shin splint issue. Did 3.5km today, my longest run since the injury in January. Have probably walked another 10km or so over the rest of the day too without any soreness so I think I'm pretty ready for some longer runs. Now I just need to not go overboard and fuck it up again.

I’m doing my first half marathon in a couple of weeks time but the heat and having the family around the house for the summer holidays cut my available running/practice time in half so I think it might be one I’m in to finish without dying rather than stride confidently through. Its a countryside trail one too and being outdoors is over half the appeal for me anyway so should be alright.

I didn’t run that half-marathon. It should have been this morning but I’m covved up to the eyeballs instead. Looking for 10k-Half alternatives for later in the year now. Wife has even said she’ll pay the registration fee as I’m looking so bummed out.

Yeah, not running sucks.
I'm seriously out of shape, just ran 4k and now my legs feel like jelly.

I’m running my first marathon tomorrow, the Amsterdam one. Kinda apprehensive about it tbh, I trained to a degree but not as much as I probably should have. It’s just a long jog, right? No big deal.

Good luck! I was meant to be running my first today, but have done precisely nothing in terms of distance training. Could probably do a 10k at moment.

All the best for it man! My only piece of advice is stick to your pace. All to easy to get caught up in it all and start slightly faster than you mean to! Have a great time though.

Done. Slightly disappointed, 4hrs 46m. First half was fine, second half was murderous. Never doing that again ever. The atmosphere is great and everything but I did not enjoy the running at all
