I decided to get a refund on PC (Steam Deck, really). The patch did fix the shader compilation, at least as far as I could tell, but getting a playable framerate is a huge challenge and the in-screen interface is completely unreadable. I'm now hungrily eyeing the PS5 version, but I can't take it with me on my trip next week, can I?

Any news on how interactive it is? About 60% push forward. The tech issues are a shame especially since they celebrated going good about a while back.

Probably still better than the Steam Deck version which runs at about 5fps apparently.

It's not verified for steam deck though so doesn't officially work on it.
Or unofficially either!

Not being verified means nothing, but it really doesn't work anywhere near well. My refund's gone through, that was quick.

Well it does because if it was verified and ran like that then people would kick off. With it not being verified they can say well it's not supposed to run on it.

wuntySorry, dude - my comment was more in response to Spooky than you, but I didn't make that clear. Who the hell is John Menzies? Oh it’s fine I just took it as an excuse to make my point! John Menzies was only the best shop a child could ever visit.

I remember stealing the demo disc off the front of a Sega Power magazine from a John Menzies. It had Rebel Assault for the Mega CD on it which I wanted to play more than words can describe. My one and only foray into the world of organised crime.

The true test is of course how you pronounce 'Menzies'.

Yeah the DF video is interesting. Key points if you can't be arsed to watch: If you're planning on playing performance mode then you're good to go on either Series X or PS5. Quality Mode looks proper shagged on Series X with poor performance, bugged fog and missing RT reflections. The PC version is a shader compilation nightmare and has piss poor CPU utilisation. Series S gets the usual 30fps half arsery. PS5 version looks relatively sorted all round. HDR is half buggered also, with hugely elevated blacks. Few patches away from where it should be for the most part. I read a few days ago Sony assigned 150 staff to help the devs with production, might shed some light on why the PS5 version seems to be the format of choice with less issues at launch. One of the John Linneman Digital Foundry articles on Eurogamer states "The game is great on PS5, but the ports need work" suggesting that the PS5 was the lead platform, and the other versions are ports, which would explain a lot.

Yeah, I’m surprised he’s so popular on these boards. That 30 minute “I Don’t Recommend” type clickbait is exactly what I hate about YouTube. How is that clickbait? It’s a review and he has 3 “scores”: Recommend, blank or don’t recommend. He’s literally giving you his score in the title.

About four hours in now and I’m seriously loving it. Up far too late last night as I couldn’t put it down. I honestly can’t say anything bad about it. It’s on a par with Dead Space for me and that’s just absolutely fine. I’m shit at games so on medium I’ve died a fair bit but I find the combat so much fun I don’t care. From throwing enemies into walls of spikes to sneaking up and stabbing them in the head. I’ve unlocked a heavy baton attack that sends them flying and it’s great nailing some dodges before chaining a melee combo that ends with shooting chunks off them. I’m also constantly on edge because I’m a wimp. If I hadn’t seen any reviews or other opinions I would have presumed this was getting 9s across the board. Whoa, whoa, whoa, hang on. You can throw enemies into spikes? What, like dark messiah might and magic style? Oh, that might be a SOLD for me

So enjoying a lot BUT 2 things are harming my experience somewhat, firstly camera is too close and secondly where is the feckin map, game is poor at guiding the "correct" route!
Edit, Thankfully found where I needed to go but my point stands!

Heh, DF said that was one of the good things, they don’t tell you where to go so you naturally pay more attention to the environment instead of following a marker.

Having no map can be frustrating when trying to figure out story path and side content. The quick save icon is the only way you can tell (only appears on the story path) and then you go back the other way.

A fair way into "Lost" chapter and still loving the game. Only technical issue I am having is a lot of the in-voice chat is breaking up or sounds "robotic" ?

I’m getting the hang of it. Small problem I’m having is I don’t know what the mission is, where I’m headed or why. The Radio Guide typical of these games since System Shock wants me to do something but I’ve forgotten what and there’s no help from the interface.
I know it doesn’t MATTER, the quest is “walk down corridor until win” but I generally need to be invested in what’s happening.
