Looking like a worthy Dead Space spiritual successor. It's out on 2nd December on PC, PS5 and Xbox X|S.

Looks great. Probably the thing that most caught my eye out of everything shown.

I've never actually played Dead Space but always loved how it looks. Realised recently that having XSX means I could play it now but not sure whether or not to wait for the remake

Wait for the remake though. I played through it again last year and it's extremely solid. I'm not sure what the remake is going to offer other than a graphical upgrade, but the original is still excellent. I wouldn't wait unless you want to spend money.

I think they're going to change some of the story beats in the remake ala Resi 2 remake. Honestly can't wait.

I'm sorry, I just can't forget when the devs said the game would take place in the PUBG universe (before eventually reneging on it). It was so out of left field, that's all I can think about whenever this game is shown.

Similar. And if you know PUBG, you know the people behind it are awful, so the news about the season pass is completely believable.

I mean it's just another reason to not blindly buy seasons passes.

The aesthetics of this game remind me of Doom 3 from the trailer. I played only a part of the first installment in the Dead Space series, liked it to a certain extent, but wasn't motivated to continue for some reason. I'm not a huge fan of horror, but maybe will try this one out.

The first Dead Space was great. Rapidly declined in the sequels because of EA interference, but the first game can be treated like a one-off anyway. Will be interesting to see if the remake is justified. I’m wondering if they looked at Capcom’s Resident Evil remakes for motivation there.
Callisto Protocol is the only game I’m currently aware of for ps5 that I’m getting this year. Still waiting for Returnal to come down to a reasonable price.

From what I've read the remake is more in line with Resi 2 remake as opposed to to Last of Us 1 remake. Also why don't you just subscribe to PS Plus Premium if you want to play games like Returnal, it works out much cheaper in the end

I actively hate the idea of games by subscription and think it will have a profoundly negative impact on development, and on what kinds of games are produced, and to what standard, and to an even new height of “exclusive games” fuckery that won’t even be limited to per-platform, but per-subscriptions per-platforms. It may turn out to be the worst thing to happen to gaming from an artistic standpoint since the mobile gaming gold-rush, or EA’s “everything needs online multiplayer” which, incidentally, is largely what killed the Dead Space series.
I’m also curmudgeonly and don’t wish to change how I do things.

I found that with WOW, when I tried the 30 day starter for Burning Crusade. (2007 probably). I think I played about 5 hours over the whole month, but the whole time felt terrible, like I was obligated to play and play to get my $30 worth / do all the things. I recognised the business model as fundamentally evil though, life-draining, money draining shite (and the gameplay was social-media level basic stuff) and wasn’t getting sucked in to that.
Given there’s maybe 6-7 Netflix style streaming services that each have one show or movie I’d like to see (one of which is owned by Murdoch) I can’t help but compare games subscriptions to that, and I don’t want any part of it. It was easy enough to get Netflix for one month and catch up on Stranger Things, but I need to play games at my own pace.

You've normally got a year+ to play something while it's on a sub, so not like you're ever rushing to get through something unless you leave it until it's coming off the sub.
Microsoft at least made the wise move of folding EA access into GPU, and will hopefully do the same when Ubisoft+ launches on console. Playstation will have three different subs then, which feels like a step closer to how things are with TV at the moment.
When it comes to TV subs where everything is split between multiple services I tend to just switch between active subs or yarr it. With consoles you can always just keep buying games as usual, as they don't have the same kind of exclusivity to subs as TV does. Although I guess that's a perfectly valid fear for the future.

Pretty sure I'd end up with choice paralysis with GP, play a load of shit I don't care about and never finish anything
