Also, it's another game sticking to 30fps on Series S, albeit at 1440p.
I think 60fps should be possible, given that the premium consoles run at 4K60, but with most of the marketing focused on the gore and graphics, I guess they thought it would be better to keep visual clarity at the cost of performance. Still, who knows if a patch might eventually come, like for Sonic Frontiers.

Like I say though. Early doors. I may well be frothing out my eyes in another couple of hours. Eye froth everywhere. Who knows. I'm looking forward to Wunty having a Fuzzy meltdown. His about turns were always the best.

Sounds like it's a bit of a mess on PC and Series. It'll have to be PS5 (and 3d audio for extra pant shitting) for me whenever I eventually get it.
DF article up for anybody that's interested in that sort of thing.

Yeah the DF video is interesting.
Key points if you can't be arsed to watch:
If you're planning on playing performance mode then you're good to go on either Series X or PS5.
Quality Mode looks proper shagged on Series X with poor performance, bugged fog and missing RT reflections.
The PC version is a shader compilation nightmare and has piss poor CPU utilisation.
Series S gets the usual 30fps half arsery.
PS5 version looks relatively sorted all round.
HDR is half buggered also, with hugely elevated blacks.
Few patches away from where it should be for the most part.

Sounds disappointing. Think I’ll get Signalis instead and wait for a sale. Over and out.

Sounds like it looks way better in quality mode then. Ugh don't think I can do 30fps anymore for action games.

I can't really do 30 in any games anymore. Makes me feel a bit sick.

I’m playing in 30. I’m constantly throwing up, but it’s worth it.

Hopefully they'll sort out the Series X version, by which point a possible future Game Pass title?
Graphical features completely absent and a worse frame rate than on PS5 is surprising, on practically identical hardware.

Anyone who is playing and enjoying this, don't watch skillups review as his takedown of the combat is one of those things you can't unsee and it's likely to ruin the game for you.

I don’t watch skillups reviews anyway as his views don’t mirror my own. I’ve noticed that a fair few of his “I don’t recommend” games are some of my favourites. Off the top of my head he hated Ghostwire Tokyo and Deathloop for example. Horses and courses etc.

Yeah, I’m surprised he’s so popular on these boards. That 30 minute “I Don’t Recommend” type clickbait is exactly what I hate about YouTube.

He wasn't wrong about ghostwire though I think he is popular because he always gives reasons why he likes or dislikes something. You dont have to agree with him because games are subjective but he usually raises good and well thought out discussion points.

I suppose. I just don’t like to over analyse my entertainment. I’m the same with films etc. I just think “is this entertaining me or not”. By all means be critical for as a consumer it’s our right. I just get bogged down by the endless analysis and nitpicking, so I steer clear of a lot of that stuff.

I read a few days ago Sony assigned 150 staff to help the devs with production, might shed some light on why the PS5 version seems to be the format of choice with less issues at launch.

It's terrible on the Steam Deck, if anyone's wondering. Apart from performance, putting it in 16:10 will give you things like tutorial messages being cut off on the sides and a black screen overlay that'll leave the top and bottom strips of the image visible.
I'm hovering over the refund button, though apparently there's a patch coming soonTM. I'm fine with the game itself, though the premise ( get arrested for no reason ) is a head scratcher for sure.

I think SkillUp does a good job as far as YouTube reviewers go - he's nowhere near as histrionic as someone like Angry Joe, for whom I have next to no regard these days, and his delivery is much more palatable to me than ACG's.

I’m sure he does. I was more acknowledging that he has differing opinions from me and that I actually don’t really bother with the in-depth reviews as they kind of kill it for me. At heart I’m still that excitable little guy who runs into John Menzies with his pocket money and buys the game that he likes the cover and screenshots of. If I bounce off a game it’ll be because I don’t like playing it. And I’ll only know that if I play it.

Oh. It’s worth pointing out. There’s a whole menu for combat assists. Everything from auto aim to auto dodge, melee assist etc.
Also, for a game that’s linear, for the third time, I’m not sure if I’m going the right way. There’s certainly side areas to explore.

Watching a few videos, I think a big problem might be the focus on melee over guns. It takes too long to kill a single enemy, and the game throws several at a time.
It's been a while since I last played Dead Space, but I seem to remember that Necromorphs, while dangerous, could be dismembered pretty quickly. If it had taken this long to kill them, I'd have got bored of the game fast.

This isn’t terrible to be honest, and PC performance is fine with a few tweaks (changing to DX11 allows you to force shader compilation so the stutters mostly go away, still annoying that’s needed though), but yeah. Not really survival horror as melee combat seems to be a piece of piss and I’m currently drowning in ammo. Upping the difficulty just makes them more damage spongey and the few times I’ve died it’s because of bad camera controls or random glitches. Not terrible but not going to be talked about in reverent tones a few years from now.
Also hilarious is playing in ultra wide means you see most of the jump scares spawn in before they leap out at you.

Started this at 2am this morning and I'm most disappointed...I was led to believe this was a card/Deck game like Gwent and it is feck all like Gwent. The only thing that saves it is, it is great fun so far. Just started Aftermath, so second chapter? and do far having a ball. Re Dead Space comparisons, feck me old Glen (good name that 😉) wasn't shy about using it for inspiration. 👍

Absolutely, as someone who has an awful sense of direction both in games and life, where the feck is my map? or guide like in Dead Space/Fable at al. 😢

About four hours in now and I’m seriously loving it. Up far too late last night as I couldn’t put it down. I honestly can’t say anything bad about it. It’s on a par with Dead Space for me and that’s just absolutely fine. I’m shit at games so on medium I’ve died a fair bit but I find the combat so much fun I don’t care. From throwing enemies into walls of spikes to sneaking up and stabbing them in the head. I’ve unlocked a heavy baton attack that sends them flying and it’s great nailing some dodges before chaining a melee combo that ends with shooting chunks off them. I’m also constantly on edge because I’m a wimp.
If I hadn’t seen any reviews or other opinions I would have presumed this was getting 9s across the board.
