Mine’s on its way with a courier I’ve never heard of. I’m not expecting much , but will give it every chance. I can always fall back on Elden Ring until Resi4 comes out around the corner.

10-15 hrs is a fine length, but I'm talking about people wanting double that length in order to justify the RRP. To be fair anything over 10hrs these days and I start to drift away. With the honorable exception of Fromsoft games I just plain don't finish any. I get bored way before the end, no matter how good it is. Hoping this wil be done in 8-10 as that's a perfect length for this type of thing. Also, re: the linearity. I find that works best for horror games. They kind of need to be scripted and tightly focused or they don't really work. Case in point is that I'll replay The Evil Within 1 over The Evil Within 2 any day of the week. In fact, I fucking love the first one for that very reason.

More than 10-15 hours of any story based game is more than enough for me, anything more needs to have gameplay that evolves enough and a very good story.

Blimey... An avoid on eurogamer citing the lack of actual gameplay. Not sure how they managed to hide that this is just a poor interactive movie for so long. Can't believe you made me look /hangs head in shame/

Judging from reviews there is more of a focus on melee than ranged. A lot of similarities to Dead Space otherwise. Some criticism seem to be lacking variety of enemies, difficulty of handling groups of enemies and fairly difficult bosses... but I have only heard the latter from one review.
But mostly it looks like something that Dead Space-fans would enjoy.
Skill up's review has just popped up and he doesn't recommend it.

Really curious to see how I get on with this overall. It’s had such a strong opening so it’s been really interesting reading the reviews. A lot of the negatives seem to be things that aren’t really going to phase me but I’ll need to see how the next few hours pan out.
I’m sure you’re all eagerly awaiting my opinion.

I actually am - I want to know how it compares to Signalis seeing as we're the only two who've played the bloody thing.
Bit concerned about the lack of puzzles and linearity but they're far from deal breakers.

I can only cope with puzzles and backtracking so much!

Sounds like it runs pretty bad on PC. That's not encouraging.

What's Signalis like then? I missed the chat on that. (Sorry for derail)

What's Signalis like then? I missed the chat on that. (Sorry for derail) Survival horror game set in space that plays very similarly to early Resident Evil (and a bit of Silent Hill). Loved it - if you're a fan of early RE/SH it's a no brainer imo.

A 'do not recommend' from Skill-Up is a bit surprising. I thought he'd at worst give it a no score as he was pretty pumped about it in the run up to release. Watching the review now.
I do still fancy it regardless and there are good reviews in amongst the criticism so it's obviously not all bad. I've still never played DeadSpace and will be getting the remake so this may work better for me (and to see how much better that one is later).

The combat sounds really annoying the further you get into it.

See another review says you get so overpowered it makes enemies pose so little threat. Another review mentions using the stasis thing as it's totally OP. Yet the EG review said about not bothering with it after halfway and getting stuck in to melee.
I just tend to ignore reviews these days and read them out of curiosity only. I go with my guts, and they don't generally let me down apart from that one evening in my twenties when I had far too much weed and laughed too hard. If I enjoy it, I enjoy it. This was a no brainer for me and - like I say - unless it shits it's pants completely, then I really can't see that opinion changing much based on what i've seen so far.

A few reviews I’ve read say to wait for the inevitable patch(es) because it’s actually quite buggy, controls in particular.
Shame but I can wait until the summer sale.

Seems mixed, but generally positive. Someone said "Dead space 4 in all but name, but without the suspense or scariness".
A few reviews dropped it to easy to get through it. Sounds like it could be potentially aggravating/unfair combat in places.
Still interested though, but not £62 interested.

I honestly thought the dodge mechanic would be something akin to Last of Us Part 2, I didn't think you'd have to actually move the control stick in the direction of the dodge.

Thing is, barring the first few minutes of Dead Space, and a few decent jump scares in Dead Space 2, I never found the Dead Space games particularly suspenseful or scary. It's constant fights and monsters popping up in waves from every direction. Played all three of them recently.
This is, in all honesty, more Dead Space but with more emphasis on melee, yet it feels the same.
But look, I'm not defending the game or subconsciously justifying my pre-order, although I'm aware it will probably start coming across that way. I'll just repeat that I am VERY forgiving generally, particularly with horror games and even more particularly with sci-fi horror. It's just my bag. The latter automatically gets points in my head just because it takes place off earth or in the future.

FWIW the dodge mechanic has worked great for me so far. Left or right to dodge, back to block. It's been responsive and doesn't really rely too heavily on timings. I generally start by sprinting towards the fuckers to get some hits in first anyway.

Oh and quaddy I paid around £45 digitally after getting decent PSN credit. I'm not advocating anyone spends that unless you're either impulsive like me or are convinced you'll enjoy it. I don't recommend games for people because everyone likes different shit, so it's pointless.
Edit: Apart from Signalis. Everyone needs to play Signalis.

Yeah, that's cool - I'll probably enjoy it anyway, by putting it on a lower difficulty and just going for it. Reviews are a bit all over the place nowadays anyway. Like you say, depends what you like really.
One thing that you might be able to clear up - I read that at some points, enemies will spawn completely out of sight and attack you, with you having zero knowledge of their awareness - how's that working out?

It’s only happened once so far but it happened in dead space as well so I’m probably not fussed.

I only managed to play for 15 minutes before having to leave it for the day, so it wasn’t enough to tell if it gets good or not.
