The Great Collapse! I've only got three rolls of toilet paper left. Time to fold and sit down, like a normal person. Sit-fold wipe twice. Stand-fold wipe once. Adjust post-curry.

My work are having issues doing the workaround for this Crowdstrike issue. It so happens that I follow a few cybersecurity people on Twitter (not my profession, I just joined around the time of wannacry and followed people who were talking about it). I think there’s a chance one of the people I follow posted a solution that might help, for people struggling with the workaround… but I’m not in IT, and I’ll just look like an absolute bellend if I blunder into the incident chat and go “Hai guyz, will this help, I found it on Twitter?!”
So, keeping it to myself for now, but the temptation is growing

Think the fixes are either boot into safe mode and delete a file, or use dism with a bunch of switches.
I'm delighted that we don't use CrowdStrike software any more here! Just had the usual panicked flurry of teams chats that eventually settle down when we realise we're not impacted.

Yeah it's basically renaming the system32 folder or deleting a file within the folder once in safe mode. Imagine being the poor cunt having to go round doing that for a 1000 workstations.

No it sounds a little smarter than that, I just don’t have enough context to figure out if it solves the problem my lot are having Edit- for the avoidance of doubt, I do realise you’re joking

An ex colleague at my ex work just messaged me asking me to participate on a happy birthday message for my old boss. I'm bordering on say fuck off, but it's super weird no?

It depends on what kind of relationship you had I guess. If it was just a work relationship then yeah that is fucking weird.

Been stealing a wage all week. All that stuff I previously posted about with the crunch came to an end, I have no current manager and we have a temporary director.
All week, I’ve attended a team meeting, done my performance objectives with said temporary director, made a couple of spreadsheets and that’s about it. Oh, I also caught up on reading some policies* and training** I have been being nagged about on the naughty list emails for weeks.
Probably about 8 hours work total. We are just not being given anything to do and temp director, who came in on the tail end of said crunch project, seems to be of a mind that we deserve a bit of slack whilst they appraise stuff.
They are looking at use of resources so I half smell a restructure on the horizon and that coupled with not having much to do is making my twitchy. Plus, even with a sort of implied ‘go forth and be a dosser’ I still feel I have to run back and send an unnecessary email or move the mouse - I can’t bring myself to do FULLY nothing because I’m terrified of being binned. However temp director gave me a glowing report in my review, and said that she always snidely asks around for the lowdown on people and has heard a load of praise about me from higher ups. So mixed feelings at the mo.
Off for a week now, and have absolutely crashed tonight despite doing fairly little. Pretending to be at work is just as tiring as working sometimes isn’t it. Either way always seem to get this burnout thing just as a break starts.
*scrolling to the bottom and clicking ‘read’ **skipping through the play bar of ‘how do we do fellow kids’ level voice acting and just using my fucking common sense to answer the multiple choice questions

My boss looks like he’s allot to move to a different job leaving a vacancy for me to take over.
Despite getting 4 out of 5 on my annual appraisal under various managers for 7 years (the highest anyone gets otherwise corporate steal the person), despite getting an award for being outstanding that was voted on by our part of the company of 200 people, despite getting praise from the customer and being recommended to be given the job by my current and former manager and most of the team I’d be in charge of, I still don’t expect to get it.
Either they’ll reorg and or give it to one of their mates. I’ve decided this time that I’m definitely leaving that department if that happens. My previous boss wants me back, even though it would be no extra pay it would be worth it to fuck over the current head of he does what I expect.
I’ve spent 20 years making my bosses look far better than they are.

My team lead is on holiday for 2 weeks leaving me in charge and it's a pain just after 1 day. Already juggling 4 existing projects, having to divide my time and others, different team leads in each all asking me to sign off testing in it ASAP. Then another all new project lands on top of me that's high priority. Had to go to the project manager to find out what actually is urgent and what's not. I get round to looking at the new projects which has no requirements. Do my best trying to make sense of it and find that there's big errors that block progress in testing. I tell the dev lead about it "Oh you're not meant to test that part yet". Absolute waste of time, have half a mind to send the whole thing back and tell them to make sure it all works before handing it over, found 12 bugs already and that's just on the registration screen. I'm not a mind reader, tell me what's ready for testing and what's not.
Plus one of the colleagues seems to think she can do what she likes without the team lead around. I put her on the project and say if there's any questions then to ask me. She only goes and messages the dev lead asking all sorts of questions about how this all works leading him to message me and ask me if Ive explained the project properly. Makes me look bad. Have to talk to her about it.

Well, a few weeks later and I've now completed enough of the prerequisites for the NHS job to get a start date. I've just got some learning modules to sign off now.
On Monday, my boss is back from holiday, and I'm handing my 1 week notice period in on the same day. Then, the next week I'm having off to have a break and the week after I'm starting at the nhs. I've even got my badge and everything, so it's super official!

Congrats quad! Very nice indeed, glad to hear it.
Had a strange day myself. Walked in to work and first thing this morning I get pulled in by a higher up to tell me that 2 of my teammates are getting sacked with immediate effect. Turns out that in their Teams conversation with each other, their conversation has been flagged for wildly inappropriate behaviour. As an example, one of them had referred to the only woman on our team as "a fucking cunt". That was enough to get flagged to the IT Security Team, who monitors any kind of excessive language like that and they were able to dig deeper into their conversation log and found all kinds of wild shit, talking badly about other colleagues, including me and even bragging about how they can get away without doing much work.
Just the sheer height of stupidity, we all know teammates that get on our nerves but you'd never put it down in writing where it can be found, in a professional work place. Go out for something to get at the vending machines and vent there. They came in at 9, were sacked by 10. I'm covering for my team lead who's off on holiday for 2 weeks, I have this innate hesitation he'll ask questions of me, but I mean, it's all escalated above my head and I can't control what they say so...

Hoooooboyyyyy, I'm glad my place doesn't monitor Teams logs then :x
I definitely took a conscious decision a while back to tone down my Teams messages, but I could definitely be more professional. That said, my boss is probably the worst of the lot of us. She doesn't hold back much when we're discussing some more junior staff...

Same. My team has a private channel and we tend to be quite forthright about our feelings in there. Better than to the clients, customers, whatever is the feeling. Not sure it'd be seen that way by HR, mind you. But we're the Teams admin too, so. Congratulations quadfather 😎

Not sure I agree with spying on private conversations, they should have done it over WhatsApp instead but it's morally wrong imo.

It's not great, but if there is any defense to be had, these guys have been part of meetings where our boss has expressed multiple times that it all gets monitored. If they didn't know enough to not say this kind of stuff in the first place, they should have listened when they were told. Like I say, mixed emotions, it sucks for them on one hand but the other you wanna slap some sense into them with the other.
To answer the question, she's too timid and meek to be classified as such. Didn't deserve the "fucking cunt" status.

You should really have an airtight reason for even asking for that kind of investigation, so they must've done something (else) pretty stupid to attract that kind of heat to begin with.
Agree that it's pretty shady, but it should be right there in the acceptable use policy you've read and agreed to.
