Somewhere to complain about any old shit at work.
So been employed at a broadcasting company as a writer for almost ten years now. Mostly happy years. But recently they’ve really been kicking back on me using any copy other that what comes from production companies, which makes me wonder why they need me when anyone can CTRL+C, CTRL+V.
Big row today and was told off for standing up to a director. Think that’s it for me. If it weren’t for the fact I’m about to buy a house I wouldn’t care.
No real solution to it. Hopefully another job comes up. Who wants wings?

Man, don't ever feel remorse for knowing your worth or abilities. I know interpersonal politics in the UK are different from the US, and maybe you might want to start sending your CV to other firms just in case, but don't ever regret speaking up for yourself.

The majority of my current workload, and this has been the position for about the last six months or so, is proofreading and editing and, let's be honest, massively overhauling, the utter shit that these AI copywriters vomit out. So at least I'm in profit! |

rawshark - just keep it as sweet as possible until the house move is done and dusted and then GTFO would be my move. As annoying as it is, a house move is definitely a time you don't want to risk being out of work as you could very likely jeopardise your loan. Put on your best shit-eating grin and get on with it knowing that you've got the satisfaction of putting in your notice ahead of you.

Yeah that does seem to be the only route forward.
Funny you should mention the AI copywriter as I’m sure they would absolutely go down that route if they could. I have suspicions they even road tested one a while back, but couldn’t use it due to it being unintentionally racist. True story.

I have 3.5 hours left and I'm still stressed about this place. I have a handover meeting at half 2 and the dipshit manager is losing his shit over my timesheets but what can they really do.

My handover was painful. My boss insisted that I spent my last month doing KT videos for the rest of the team, which I guarantee they've never touched since then. Who the fuck is going to skim through a video to get useful info?
Silly old me wanted to provide them with a solid handover document instead, but that idea got shot down.

If I had to a handover it would be to a grad and someone that doesn’t know how to format text as a header in word. In the time it’s taken her to reformat a document I’ve written a 60 page document for a bit, done complete reliability analysis of a system, written 3 processes and agreed a load of reporting with a customer, that customer has 4 people cooking the equivalent of what I’m doing. I’ve also written a new sparing model from scratch to fit specific requirements.
I’ve also done my routine work.

Depends how you stand up to them and who they are. Some take it well, or others do, if they’re all like it at the top then it’s usually a waste of time. |

Phone call from work, on my day off.
I'm being seconded to another area for a few days at the end of the month to help out during a building refit. I don't have a choice in the matter apparently. I get reimbursed for train/hotel/taxi/food costs, but it would have been nice to have had the option to say no.
Fucking Friday the 13th indeed.

I don’t mind my job, a lot of it is quite enjoyable. However I’m not sure about my manager
She’s very highly thought of within the business but actually doesn’t do any work and doesn’t know a lot of the basics of the job. She surrounds herself with people who are actually capable and fobs all her work off on them, even if it’s nothing to do with their role. And then she takes the credit when the task is completed
It’s a very strange was of managing but seems quite successful so far

The top lady at mine is like that. Very hard to talk to, won't listen to more than a couple of sentences of explanation of a particularly technical or difficult problem before she gets bored/angry (like Trump), and then waves a hand and says something to the effect of 'just fucking do it!'.
The promotions just rain down, she's never in any position more than a year before she jumps upwards and adds another zero to her salary.
It's mystifying to me how people fake it like that.
