Shirt and tie for interviews.
Our office is completely casual-wear (not customer facing) and you wear whatever the fuck you want day to day - but in interviews there is a definite +1 to people who look like they give a shit and take the job and the company seriously.
You're not immediately black balled or anything based on your outfit, but think of it as min maxing.

It’s why I’m fussy when interviewing and always want to view loads of candidates. If you front load all the effort and get the recruitment right you don’t have to do much actual managing, which I despise

When interviewing, I hate it when the people doing the interview are not smart (they don't need a suit on with top hat and monocle) but make some effort to look smart. If I am wearing a nice shirt and tie for online interview, you can make a effort, interview is 2 way process

I'm not sure why I decided to engage in conversation with that incompetent recruiter who just emailed me asking me for stuff, again, that I'd already sent to her weeks ago.
At this point I'm starting to believe she's had a head injury at some stage in her life.

If they're smart they'll want to avoid getting into a manager position.

God I hate my job at the moment. Insane management decisions made in the name of cost cutting and efficiency, but really just to gain evidence for the next rank/job, that will almost certainly have disastrous consequences for those left to deal with them.
I'm carrying so much work (and risk) at the moment it's untrue.
I said a year ago my goal was to leave and I feel no closer to actually achieving that despite many, many attempts. Started looking abroad for some different opportunities but don't know how feasible that could ever be.

If they're smart they'll want to avoid getting into a manager position. Yeah these days managers are there because they are good at politics, very rare to see an actual technocrat, which is what I respect the most. My last two, I actually got a technocrat who taught me loads, and before that a ‘management is its own skill’ person who basically made me teach them what we did and organise everything before taking the credit and holding us back.
