We have league tables at work and I fucking hate them, the data that they are built on is far too small a sample size. I pointed it out on my review and said it's demotivating and unprofessional. The next day I had the area manager come down and tear me a new one to which I informed him that he can say what he wants but I maintain my thoughts on the matter and that people that don't understand data shouldn't be producing the tables. Basically fucked my job up and now couldn't progress even if I wanted to. Something will pop up eventually 😂 Good lad.

Understandably feeling a bit isolated at the moment. I suppose it is hopefully for a week or so, until they finalise my notice period.

Very understandable. I prescribe a session on the PS5 whilst occasionally moving the mouse. Fuck them.

In your situation your legally allowed time for interviews etc. so claim some time out for a job interview, and additionally, do some sprucing up of your LinkedIn profile etc. and as Doug’s says, some hobby stuff too.

Yeah I can imagine that's not a great feeling, chin up and try and look forward to a bit of rest ahead of you and block out the joy of long and monotonous application forms ahead of you!

Thanks all. I've had 3 separate recruiters try to and hire me for this one job, which I don't really fancy. I initially spoke a recruiter about it and said I'd be interested in an interview, then it took him 2 weeks to come back and say they thought they'd found someone and then said they are still actively recruiting. But 3 separate recruiter companies? seems a bit red flag.
Anyway put my loser #opentowork flag on.

I had an influx of recruiters when i first turned on my #opentowork, hilariously all mid 20s guys with designer stubble all trying to give me roles that told me they had never even looked properly at my profile they just see 'TEACHER'.

Not really, although I say that and I'm using the professionally paid for headshot that my previous employer used for our offices and website. Just a clean, well lit headshot photo will do.

Applied for a job that I saw on CV library on Friday that I didn't think I would hear anything from. Recruiter phoned me today and has said they are putting me forward for it. Also got contacted for 2 more, one I don't really want and another that seems okish.
At least it felt like things are moving a bit.

Yeah indeed, the actual role wouldn't start until September but they have said I can start right away if I get it doing some other stuff. It would be retraining to something new but my age doesn't seem a problem and it will be a pretty decent career to be in after that.

Yeah, but I can work there before then and get to learn the basics. Providing I get it that is, still a long way from that.

Oh, ok. Well it can't hurt can it. Give that shit a go and see what happens. I also just made a bit of a big decision that won't come into effect until next September too.

In any case, good for ya!

I've been thinking of expanding my personal development for a long time but always kept putting off but this job in Malaysia I've been offered a 2nd interview for next week really made me think what am I actually doing with my life. I came back to England for a reason and I wasn't really sure what that reason was but it wasn't to repeat the same mistakes and do the same work that I grew tired of in Andorra so I had some clarity, wrote stuff about what I really wanted and looked into some stuff and I decided to do my Masters in Applied Linguistics with TESOL to open up career opportunities in areas that I'm more interested in. So I applied today, a long ass application, tuition isn't so bad at 10k compared to almost 30k as a FORRIN but it starts next September. So I guess I'll see by end of December hopefully if I've been accepted by the university here.

Jambowayoh Like I said, good for you!!! Repeating the same old actions even when they lead you to nowhere is a recipe of disaster and this sounds like a very good decision. Good luck!

Are you still eligible for home student fees? A friend who is living abroad currently was looking into it recently and it seemed like you needed to have been here for consistently for a while to qualify.

A friend who is living abroad currently was looking into it recently and it seemed like you needed to have been here for consistently for a while to qualify. It asked that question as in if I had resided in the UK or EU or EEA in the last 3 years. Andorra is in Europe but not in the EU nor in the EEA so I don't know if it counts. I guess I I'll see when they get back to me. However I just checked I'm eligible for home fees if I've lived in the UK for over half my life; done that. Also if I've maintained regular contact in the UK while living abroad with a residency which I have by visiting the UK regularly in the last 6 years staying at mother's home and having it as my bank address and other correspondence. I'll have to argue it if it comes to it.

So my colleague who I've been good friends with for about 10 years, was told by someone that there were a few tears in the HR office after some of the consultancy sessions due to him. What the fuck is that sort of emotional blackmail bullshit. Yeah HR have a tough time, guided by the exec/managers, but fuck me.. I can't imagine he said anything overly offensive? or he'd be sacked.

Just been informed all jobs in my company are at risk and we’ll be getting letters notifying of possible redundancies this afternoon. I’ve been in this job for 21.5 years, which is literally most of my life, and still haven’t decided what I want to do when I grow up. Also I have zero qualifications and am only skilled in one very niche and archaic field. Eep.

I'm confused. Few tears because they were sad for him or because he was being made redundant and didn't say nice things?

Hopefully you will be ok, but it’s suprising how transferable skills and experience are once you break down what you do to its core.
