I have no idea when ours is, I do know my response will be the obligatory "Unfortunately Mrs Mercury and I are unable to attend this year". They only invite me as I'm on the circulation list, they know I'll not attend, I know, Mrs Mercury knows, what a feckin farce!

Like it's up to you what you do with your time.
Ours is a Wednesday in December, in Manchester. That's a long fucking round trip drive for lunch.

My wife's Christmas work does are epic. When the office was smaller partners were always invited, to thank them as well. Once it was at the Natural History Museum, cocktails in the bird gallery, dinner in the big hall! Once they grew bigger the first did away with the sit down meal, so it was more like renting out a big night club with buffet/canapes and acrobatics. Then it became no spouses . I still get invited to the smaller ones for her area of the business. This is of course all paid for. There is also always a Christmas party for kids, with games, Santa's grotto, face paints, food and drink etc. I'm public sector and we will probably go bowling and then a curry, all paid for by ourselves. Us more senior lot will likely pay for a couple rounds of drinks out of our own pocket.

Last year's xmas party was shit (was told 2022 one was great), I left about 10pm but this year's sounds good, its winter park which we have sole use of.
Had a good day in the office today, the rest of my team visited the main office and met with our externals. Company paid for lunch as well

I do hate the 1st line "offshored" IT staff, its either they do the job mostly correct or they don't do the job at all and mark it as complete

Our Christmas Party is on the 17th and as always it's held in one of our conference rooms. On offer are Food, drinks and games!
Doesn't it sound wonderful.
Please register by writing on the sign up sheet which nobody's been brave enough to do. I've been here 11 years at this point and only went two years ago and vowed never to do it again.
I made my bid for freedom when the karaoke started and walked out without saying a word. I do that a lot, I get bored and I've never been a sociable person anyway especially in groups and I hate going round saying bye, cya whenever ect.

The redundancy consultancy ends next week, so it is squeaky bum time with Christmas coming up. Having been to all the meetings, listened to the outbursts and said my piece.. I think I'm about done discussing it all. The criteria they have laid out, I score quite high, so there's a good chance I stay. Get me until Feb and I'll start looking for something else. I have no motivation to find something else right now.

Hmmm, it's upto you but I would would look now regardless, your employer isn't your friend and not all decisions they make have any logical sense. My point is, just because you think you're safe doesn't really guarantee anything. Obviously you do you.

If last Christmas is anything to go by, I found job searching between December and February absolutely soul destroyingly futile.
At least around here where I am anyway.
Though I will say it's far easier to get a job when you've already got one. I know everyone knows that, but it probably needs repeating in this scenario.

Currently dealing with a recruiter who I would have been on at if I was their manager. Keeps repeatedly asking me for stuff I've sent over via email AND IN PERSON. Just called me to ask if I could send over stuff I sent over a week ago and also a reference from over 10yrs ago which isn't going to happen.

So yeah checked my sent items box and this will be the 3rd time I've sent stuff over. I'd say this is bordering on unprofessional.

I didn't go that far, but I was quite passive aggressive in my email "despite sending to you before please find attached..."

Recruiters are generally inhuman demon spawn. When I worked in graphic design. Dealing with a lot of these recruiters was hell, one said to me (years ago) how many videos have you created using Indesign? I said thats for creating layouts for print and online, I know Premiere and then she had the nerve to say "actually we don't think you are right for the role" and hanged up on me!.
Some of these "people" don't even have a job as they are just getting people's details or they are taking a chance by sending details to the company, when the company is not using that recruiter. So glad I don't work in graphic design (despite enjoying creating magazine layouts and videos etc)

She's alright, just quite disorganised. I don't know if that's an age thing as she appears to be in her mid 20s.

It isn't like I haven't looked around already, but when you weigh up my current remote setup vs working in the office 3 times a week, with an hour commute each way.. I'd take the morale hit, over commuting. The money isn't much different either, so I'd be taking a hit on driving, car maintenance etc.

I was trying to fill a position and the HR person said we’d have to pay more than £70k a year for what I wanted. When I asked why the consultants that they used to identify the pay bands said up to £50k they just stopped replying. That was a few years ago, I noticed this week that they haven’t moved those recommended amounts at all, not even to cover inflation.

I’m getting worse with them (computers) with age and in changes like cloud etc but I generally find today’s kids/adolescents/young adults are shit with actual IT because we grew up with computers and they grew up with tablets and apps and touch screen. She probably has no idea how to search or filter messages in Outlook!

Outlook search is absolutely awful. I miss Google and Google Docs especially.

The incredibly disorganised recruiter replied to me today. She thanked me for sending the stuff over (the 3rd time)
She then finished her email asking me to send the safeguarding certificate...it was in the email she replied to.

I'm very close to not doing business with them at the moment. I have an interview for a job in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday and all this stuff makes me feel like I'm being trolled. I haven't replied to her email and am debating whether or not to.

Sounds as though you've since crossed the border and applied for a residence permit!
I'd be inclined to stop engaging with them, but obviously that's just my $0.02.

I've decided to not respond to them and send an email to the complaints department. I feel quite bad about this but I'm just perplexed by the whole thing. I've never really had this experience with a recruiter before, they've almost always been the ones haranguing me with constant jobs and trying to get me employed ASAP this one is still dicking around with my profile creation since 21st October.
I've gotta say my experiences of just communicating with people here in the UK in regards to finding work has been uniformly awful. Has it always been this way, I haven't worked here in 8 years but is this normal?

Admittedly I don't have loads of experience of it, but I've found communicating with prospective employers uniformly terrible, unless they are in a field where it's difficult to hire/they are constrained to pay badly compared to other industries. In those cases, they are already up against it, so they put effort into their recruitment drives - pre-interview chats, emails about any questions you might have, helpful HR people, etc etc.
When a company gets big enough to have tens or hundreds of applicants, any semblance of courtesy goes out of the window because it's not resource efficient.
