They were all absolutely lovely and great customer service. But yeah, call me a povvo philistine, the fry up would have been better value!

It's quite the double edged sword as they obviously want someone younger who's more malleable and the questions are always going to be why are you going for a lesser role and automatically think you can't hack the role you're in. True. Plus it was a one and done apply thing. I did write out a banging cover letter for a job I really like the look for. I think this might be a good thing if I can get something like it, as it’s in Manchester and required to go in every so often, which is an hour train ride. Get to know some new people. Nearly 10 years at my current place. I’ve got to go. If you get it, I can meet you for a pint sometime - manchester is on my doorstep!

First day back after 2 weeks off, and fuck me I have not missed it at all.
If I had the money, I'd retire at 40, spend the next 20 years doing whatever the fuck I wanted, and the minute I turned 60, I'd say "Right, that's enough" and book a one way trip to Switzerland.

Interview in 1 hour.
Not sure why I’m nervous, i know I’m the only candidate and if I still don’t get it then I’m going to switch to working as slowly as everyone else does here and waiting for others to tell me what to do as it’s clearly a sign that I’ve peaked.
I’ve been doing 90% of the job for the last 5 years while the person above has got the credit.

Good luck!
I'm interviewing candidates this morning too, helping a colleague out. It's the incumbent who is on Temporary promotion. 5 other candidates. Always tricky.

Ah yikes, I've got one of my team heading off now, and I'm sure his direct report wants to apply for his job. If he doesn't get it he will look elsewhere. But I'm not sure he's ready...

I have no idea what I'm supposed to do for a month, whilst this consultancy goes on. Play games everyday?

I have to deal with that issue a lot, and yeah, people leave unless you promote within.
My boss has a thing about always getting someone in with experience, which is really pissing off the lower ranks who now no longer see any career progression - and people wonder why we have bad attrition.
/edit - that reply was to technoish

Most of our jobs tho first go through an internal pool process, as we have a big glut of people ready to move, and no jobs being advertised. It's like one a month at my level...

Interview lasted 45 minutes, we talked about him for the first 10 minutes then mainly standard questions with the usual bullshit answer (Why do you want it? To make the company better etc. No, just the money please). Ended with 5 minutes of him complimenting me in general with a tiny bit of advice.
Find out this week.

Why were you having an interview to talk about the interviewer?! Also when you say "advice" it comes across as they were being patronising.

An manager on my department keeps using co-pilot use to write acceptance criteria - which is bloated and often does not get it right. Why have a few bullet points when you can have a fuck load that even misses key info (its because the manager in question, has no idea what the real problem is)
I expect this to be more common, now its part of Edge and windows

Well, you can spot the job applications that use chatgpt easy enough... (Or maybe not...) I saw one where they'd used the same example for different behaviours but asked chatgpt to rewrite it so it looked completely different, which it did, but was clearly the same thing. At some point we'll just have AIs recruiting and applying

He’s moving to a different job at the end of the month so I won’t have to report to him. He’s just sorting this before he goes.
No one below him likes him, he’s one of those that’ll screw anyone over to go up the chain.

Three hour train journey to London this morning for afternoon meeting with Amazon and client, delayed for half an hour and then just as I get off the train my wife calls and my dad has been blue-lit to hospital with a blood clot on the brain and has had a stroke.
I could not continue with a meeting knowing he's in surgery and I didn't try and get back home. So swift calls with travel agency cancelling hotel and tomorrows return and getting a train home asap (which I'm now on).
Rest of our team are handling the meeting and I'm sat writing this on the train as I'm still trying to process. He had to go and trump his cancer with something else (and great timing). Really need him to wake from surgery so I can tell him as much.
Sorry, heavy shit in the thread, but needed to release.

Thanks Quaddy. So hard to concentrate on anything. I usually enjoy a train ride. This one sucks (as you can imagine).
