Think of all the in-the-moment collaboration you can do. All the #watercoolermoments. I feel sick. ‘Xbox, watch sports TV?!’

Normally a consultancy period is a good reason to start looking even if you aren't under it. You never know when the next one will be and if you will fall into it.

Yep. I should have started looking over the summer, but with bereavement around my head, it made motivation fairly hard. I think now it's given me a good kick up the arse to get applying.

Crossover with the I Wish To End My Neighbours thread, My neighbours are having some work done on the roof.
I know this because my room is in the attic conversion and I can hear the fucking roofers or scaffies banging around.
I'm already not the best at focusing, can't say hearing their hammers and drilling helps.

Invited for a 2nd interview in person for this student/parent relations job. I should be excited but I guess life these past few months has made me feel quite numb and unsure of myself. If I'm being more honest I've noticed the very familiar signs of the depression I experienced 6-7 years ago have returned. As always I'll see how it goes and make an informed decision after the interview.

You never know, the change might be just what you need, or the catalyst for other changes that help keep the depression at bay. Good luck.
In other news, anyone who repeatedly replies all to literally hundreds and hundreds of people about something specific only to them, really should be fired on the spot.
*Has just happened twice on two separate email threads, by the same person*

Cheers Lukus. Also, yeah my last place had 3 people who would continually reply to all. Like, I don't give a shit that you've read and understood the email the boss sent.

Yeah good luck jambo. Those familiar signs don't necessarily have to take root. See how things go, and the important thing is that you are being your own catalyst for change. You're making deliberate steps to move yourself in a positive direction, and that's something to take pride and solace in, even if the uncertainty and demoralising aspects of said change can threaten to make you feel otherwise.

Just had the consultancy meeting. It was the typical legal requirement bullshit. We MAY let go of some people.. there COULD BE some people going.. OK then. Considering there is about 80 people, then it is either all of us going, or a select few.
Trying not to let it get to me. We can survive on one wage for a short term by cutting back a lot. Just hope it doesn't go 6-12 months of job hunting.

Obviously management who let it get to this situation will be the first to volunteer themselves for redundancy right?... Also cheers wunty

When they ask why you want the job say
"I don't want it. I already have it."

Luckily our manager knew how many the company wanted to keep and everyone was very open about what they wanted so those who wanted to stay could and those who wanted to go wouldn't get refused. Worked out well as half the team was going to retire anyway including our manager.

VR on stat terms? Fuck that. My thoughts exactly. I'm one of only 4 staff members left from that time and two of those are on long term sick. One recovering from throat cancer and the other still battling it.

I've been here 9 years, so it is still a chunk of change, but if I spend 6 months eating into it.. Anyway I'd never consider voluntary.

Yeah, I've gotta work 5 weeks straight now with what cash I have (not much) with this new job starting week, so that's me half fucked already.
When I had that time off last year, I walked away with 12k, sold loads of stuff and got 7k and that 19k lasted from September till I got the self storage job in April 2024. And I had practically fuck all left.
Then again, I drink like a fish every day, so I probably spunk a bit more up the wall than someone that doesn't drink so much

I've applied for a junior role, which is actually hilarious, because it pays more than my senior role. They'll probably discard it though.

It's quite the double edged sword as they obviously want someone younger who's more malleable and the questions are always going to be why are you going for a lesser role and automatically think you can't hack the role you're in.

But it can be done. I've gone from senior pm to service desk and self storage.

It's not porn. If it was, I'd be the leading role!

Went for a breakfast in a nice looking cafe right next to SHU. 11 quid for beans on toast, £13.50 for mushroom on toast. wtf. Full English was 15.50 (which I got).

True. Plus it was a one and done apply thing. I did write out a banging cover letter for a job I really like the look for. I think this might be a good thing if I can get something like it, as it’s in Manchester and required to go in every so often, which is an hour train ride. Get to know some new people. Nearly 10 years at my current place. I’ve got to go.

I was in Southampton last weekend. Could have had an all you can eat fry up, £20 for the 4 of us at the hotel. Wife wanted to wander. Spent £22 in an artisan patisserie for 4 pastries, 2 teas and 2 tap waters. £4.50 for a croisshaint (literally a crushed croissant). Fucking hipster motherfuckers.
