Yep we’ve been dealing with IT asking operatives on two small teams if their mobile devices are working all week. I’ve had every single reply from the actual teams it was aimed at plus a dozen ‘why am I getting these emails’ (look in the ‘To’ field you cretins!) replies every day.
It’s clearly been started by IT aiming it a distribution list and not seeing that it’s auto suggested the whole company.

Why is it I am more motivated to work between the hours of about 12pm -10pm rather than the usual 9-5?

You people* really need to start limiting who can use and reply to distro lists and setup some reply all storm protections.
* or whatever resembles an IT department at your places.

Huh. Just got a call where you look at the caller ID and you think I don't know this number and yeah it was one of the jobs that I had randomly fired out, so I had a telephone interview there and then I booked in another interview for Monday.
Huh.

One of favourite my mass email stories was at the last place I worked, a recruitment call centre.
There was an email sent out to all employees regarding a mortgage deal/opportunity of some kind. Really trying to sell this exciting mortgage opportunity.
Now keep in mind most of the employees were youngish folks on fairly low salaries with no prospect of a mortgage anytime soon.
One guy replied to all - the entire company - "well maybe if you paid us more?", apparently the head of ops wasn't thrilled by that. He got a talking to but didn't lose his job.
It's less fun in retelling but was amusing at the time.

Now doing the jobs of 2 other people, apparently no money for permanent member of staff still despite paying more money to the temp agency. (it would be cheaper to get a member of staff even for 1 year fixed term and we were paying more money than I get in a year - of course the temp does not get that amount)

Think of all the in-the-moment collaboration you can do. All the #watercoolermoments.
I feel sick.

My colleagues aren't even in India, but nobody else in my team is in Bristol so any collaboration still happens over teams.
I might say hello to other people in the office (though even that isn't a given) but I can honestly say I've done fuck all collaboration with them.

I talk to a bunch of work mates on Teams pretty much everyday about football, games etc. We even setup a Discord over lockdown for guys who left the company. Sure, going in the office I can have some water cooler moments with Tracy, who can talk to me about her dog for 2 hours, whilst I want to sit down and do work..

You obviously can't be doing work unless in you're in an office where someone can see you doing work. While also saving the skin of the person who renewed the contract for the office space but didn't check that most people WFH.

the rest of my team is in another office in the midlands, so its expensive train fare to get there (it goes through london) and about 2 or 3 hours without delays, fuck that
Also the company is putting more and more roles in 2 cheap countries they can pay very little for the same work, luckily I'm not not forced to go in, overall If I go in its see friends on other departments or whats on the menu

I mean, at my wife's work all the support staff basically refused to go back to office.
Most of those jobs are now done from India.

As much as my oppositional defiant disorder would prevent me from admitting it at work, I have benefited from being forced back in to the office two days.
Not in terms of work, collaboration or any of that shit but just in that it’s a change of scenery and a bit more human interaction. Apparently my mood has visibly improved.

Yeah, I have felt the difference being in more too. The flip side is that the 2 days I generally do are the worst for my wife as she then spends each evening running around being a taxi taking the kids to various clubs etc. Always a rub.

Yeah I'm not denying that you need more human interaction. There's just maybe a handful I enjoy talking to. Everyone else left, hence the discord.

I like the change of scenery and tbh I do actually work a bit better for having a separation of work and play, especially as I don't have a separate study.
Also I can't just go for a lie down if I'm feeling bored or annoyed.
My social interaction barely increases when I go in though.

Looking forward to this one The "best" one we ever had was held at a pub quite a distance from most of us but coincidentally happened to be within walking distance of the home of the deputy manager who organised it, where the "entertainment" for the evening was an Olly Murs impersonator.

Just had interview for a role that is still connected to what I do but not teaching but more in student and parent relations. Thought it went well, i usually wonder if I spoken too much but whatever the outcome I thought I did OK. Guess we'll see. Now to finish this application for a college lecturer role.

Is that why generally, all the retired old people are miserable? Taking away their heating allowance, forcing them into a library, docs office or somewhere else to keep warm sounds like a marvellous idea

We just had a new guy join the team next to ours. On his second day he was asking me what the rules are on being in the office - told him it is mandatory to be in 3 days unless you have a good reason (medical etc.). He said his boss told him it isn't mandatory to be in because he has a bit of a drive to get in.
It is entirely pointless being in 3 days unless there's an actual reason to be but it's a blanket rule that is likely to get tightened because managers aren't enforcing it and those at the top are old school, ignoring that we're spread across multiple sites.
I still resent going in because there's no benefit to me or the team. All that happens is less work and more gossip. If we got more new people in then that would change while they learn.

In April we had a consultancy period, where they sacked off a bunch of people. Now I've got an email saying that we're going under another consultancy period to sack more people off.. hurrah. I think this job is becoming far too volatile and perhaps I need to kick into gear and get applying..
