And now I have an email from the team admin (who might as well run the overall department) saying that he assumes I’m taking over so can I go to some one off training course.
Nice that’s being assumed and the training will never be available again, but I’ve told him I’m waiting for the job ad to go up before I take on any of the other work.

God, I really, really, really hate dealing with recruiters they never seem to read anything you send in emails such as asking for information that you've already provided numerous times then act really sniffy when you ask for an update on some info. I need to win the lottery and be done with this nonsense.

I had one the other day tell me I had an overlap between dates on my job history. Yes, because I had 2 jobs 😂

Went out of my way and did a bit of troubleshooting for something that's not my problem last week and said it needs dev involvement for these specific reasons. They need to do this, this and this.
A week later a dev finally responds and gets lauded for getting to the bottom of the issue, even though he's clearly just parotted EXACTLY WHAT I FUCKING SAID A WEEK AGO! I honestly wonder why I bother sometimes...

Received a warning in work today, bit worrying as I’ve only been there 3 months
Someone anonymously complained that my colleagues and I had been talking about non-work related issues when at our desks, nothing bad, just holidays, food and plans for the weekend etc
Apparently that type of chat is frowned upon. I did notice how quiet and serious it was when I first started and the girl who works for me that it was very different to the other two floors we occupy and that she hated it at first
I sort of slipped back into what I was like at my old company and just talked to people occasionally but it’s clearly not gone down well at all
My boss won’t tell me who complained so I’ve got to go in knowing that out of the people sat around me one, or more, has a problem, making it pretty difficult to feel comfortable
Bit of a no win situation tbh, I’ve been going in all the time even though we only need to do 2 days in per week but I’ll most likely just do the 2 now so I’m not distracting people

Yeah I’m on holiday now for 10 days but I’ll start checking linked in jobs to see what’s out there
I don’t really want a 3 month job on my cv but I don’t want to work in a culture where people raise formal complaints against their work colleagues for having conversations

Is that legal? Also what kind of joyless cunt makes a complaint for someone having a chat? No wait, I've already answered my own question.

I would assume so. I was quite shocked, considering it’s what I would assume to be “normal” office behaviour, so googled it when I get home and it’s relatively common for people to get warnings for talking

Excessive talking, sure. But if you're saying you were just chatting while doing work which, my god, everyone has done in the history of work then it becomes quite clear it's someone patently jealous of you making a human connection with someone and has no doubt exaggerated things. I'd also have been inclined to specifically ask what they classed as "talking". Do you have any idea of who actually did it because if you've been there for only 3 months it's definitely someone who's disliked you from day 1.

That's absolutely insane. Fuck them and the people working for them that think that's acceptable, espe.cially the grass. If they had a problem, grow up and talk to you about it. The sooner companies realise that they get paid in spades by just chilling the fuck out, the better. There will always be piss takers but come on.

I’ve got my suspicions but it could be one of several. There’s a couple that work in complete silence without speaking all day, you can see that they don’t like it if people talk

That’s the thing that’s annoyed me the most, I just find it cowardly and that culture doesn’t align with what I want from a workplace Just speak to me, I’ll explain and we’ll move on. I’ve just joined the company and I’ll occasionally ask people about themselves, it doesn’t mean that we’re not working at the same time. I can quite easily write a document and talk at the same time, it’s not that difficult

I've had similar but a manager from another department told me to ignore the rule but before that I spent the day just nodding and waving and didn't talk to a single person from the other departments. Not sure I could have done that for the past 10 years but I'd have tried as I can be rather anti social anyway and just work alone.

The people that work there proudly talk about it still being in the “dark ages” in terms of workplace culture, and it does seem incredibly old fashioned compared to what I’ve come from

No it was on Teams as most interviews are these days. Damn, didn't think of that. On Teams all you could've done is beat yourself off. Good luck pal - I’ve had a few interviews like that and got the job after having some really easy ones I thought I’d aced and didn’t. I’m waiting to hear back on an application now and thinking I won’t be shortlisted. Advert had a closing date for the end of this week and they said they’d shortlist after that. However, it’s one of those where they reserve the right to close the application period and that happened a couple of weeks ago. Can’t help thinking any shortlisting has been and gone. Not enjoying my current job.

Anybody asks you a question and it’s either a notebook or charades.

And obviously tap your boss on the shoulder and hand him your notice. Nod and then walk away silently.
Sounds like a bizarre workplace

Get the fuck outta Dodge, retro.
Usually if someone is gassing away all day long, you might get a quick manager chat to reign it in, but a warning about passing the time with work colleagues is taking the piss.
Like everyone else has said, go job hunting and then get that notice in ASAP.
