Still waiting for Ser Criston to age a bit from the last one.

Not watched it yet either but it's clearly been too long to jump straight back in. Does the episode start with a decent recap or is YouTube required?
The main thing I remember about the last season was that episode that was graded and/or encoded by Sky so badly that it was absurdly dark and no HDR setting tweaks or closing of curtains could resolve this. It was farcical.

Enjoyed the first couple of episodes. Building nicely. Does it come out Monday nights in the UK so?

Technically Monday at 2am, same as US. Second episode was pretty good I thought. By most accounts a "slow" episode but really good at building up the characters, showing off vulnerable sides and laying the pieces for what's to come.
The actor that plays Criston Cole has had to limit replies to his social media because of harassment aimed at him by fans...thinking he is as despicable as he is in the show. Similar thing to the actor that played Cheese as people thought he really kicked a dog. Some people just need the Internet taken off them. Grown men and women behaving this way

Rhys Ifans is f*cking great in this. For an actor to make me swing from pretty much despising his character to sympathy you gotta have the chops to get me that invested. I also thought the shot of Helaena looking up through the black veil into the confetti during the funeral procession was one of the best framed things I’ve seen in ages - I can’t really explain it but it was just a brilliantly chilling image.

Rhys Ifans is f*cking great in this. Severely underrated in Elementary as Mycroft Holmes as well.

He's really great. In that scene with Aegon and Criston you can practically hear his inner thoughts through his expressions

Ser Criston might be one of the biggest douchebags in both this and Thrones.

Episode 3…It’s possibly the best looking thing that has ever been televised now. Every scene was sumptuous. Some game influence coming in with the art direction I feel. The aftermath of the Riverlands battle was total Witcher 3 material. And Harenhaal simply must have been informed by Dark Souls . The tension at the end was absolutely remarkable. That scene again demonstrates why I think the acting is a cut above its forebear. Aegon, shit that he is, really is compelling in his chaos. Also if that wasn’t a sneaky use of Francis McGee (Yoren) in the tavern scene as an extra, he has a doppleganger. Also - the male nudity . That escalated quickly. It really jumped up a notch. And was not expecting a prosthesis (presumably). That was graphic!

Definitely the most well shot show around and better than just about all movies now days. Also the scene in the Great Sept was so well done between the two actresses. The realisation that this happened because the Targaryens love using the same names over and over. .

I never realised until yesterday that Alicent was the girl in Ready Player One.

Great episode, and the image quality on Sky is leaps and bounds above last year (which had some major HDR darkness/dodgy colour issues to the point I watched it in non-HDR).

I still can't believe they filmed that entire episode on the beach in daylight only to make it dark for the actual episode. Looks so strange especially with the characters cast clearly struggling due to the sunlight. Also you would have thought they would avoid that after the complaints about the Long Night episode.

Some really fantastic shots in that episode, looked like they just came alive from the big coffee table book I have on the history of ASOIAF. Seen complaints that the show is too slow where nothing happens and I couldn't disagree more. Every scene is building up, think people are just too impatient and want 100% dragon fights all the time and thats just boring. They say the scenes of everyday people are pointless but it broadens out the context of the wars impact on the rest that aren't genocidal war criminals. Plus there are repeat characters each time then they're clearly building to something with them. The last scene made me think it was maybe a bit too far fetched? I totally understand Rhaenerya's motiviations and their justification in that nobody would pay attention to a woman of cloth, but in speaking with Alicent right in Kings Landing in the middle of the day seems a bit too mad. Not as mad as going deep into the North to get an undead body mind you. Maybe I should be more forgiving, I do play Hitman a whole lot after all. Still, it resulted in a great scene between the two, all possible avenues for peace exhuasted, only one thing left for it...

Seen a fair few impressions from people saying Episode 4 is the best episode of the series. Would avoid looking it up online as book wankers in the comments are keen to spoil.

Still, it resulted in a great scene between the two, all possible avenues for peace exhuasted, only one thing left for it... Regarding the spoiler part Loved the scene, but I did half expect Alicent to respond to Rhaenerya's pleas to prevent war and the death of 10's of thousands of people by saying "I can prevent those deaths right now. GUARDS!!". It was perhaps a little silly and I wasn't too fussed on the sudden jump from her planning to travel to King's Landing and her suddenly being there, which felt very season 7/8 GoT, but it did result in a brilliant scene. More generally, I am liking this a lot, but do find my attention drift occasionally. I think that is less to do with the content of what is actually happening, as GoT was always at its best when things slowed down and tension built over multiple episodes to the twists or big action moments. I think it is more to do with the two year gap that we have had between seasons. I really should have re-watched the first season ahead of going into this one, as I'm constantly trying to remember who everyone is and how they all relate to each other. More of a me problem than a problem with the show, but I hope we don't have a big gap between seasons again.

My problem is I am terrible with names, and there are a lot of characters to keep track of. Add in all the incest and overlapping families, and I often find myself a bit lost. Thankfully my partner has a mental map of it all in her head, and manages to keep me fairly on track.

Not to forget there's names like Rhaenerya, Rhaenys, Rhaegar, Daemon, Aemond, Aegon. You would think GRRM does it as a troll on purpose.

We started GoT again last night.
That first episode really was well done.
I’d say a big difference between the two shows though are their approach to nudity. GoT is all a bit 15 year old boy addicted to wanking - there’s a bit of a cheapness to it and a lot of shoe-horning it in.
I’m always torn as to whether to just enjoy it or tutt 😂

He really has nailed the confusing names bit down and having a show devoted to the family with more similar sounding names than the rest combined is a bit much at times.

Fantastic episode that. though how the biggest dragon by far is able to keep getting others with a sneak attack is a bit funny And again some simply amazing looking shots throughout.
