Hi all - giving this message the prominence it deserves fontgeek.io/thread/235/cancer?page=14I knew spacein_vader (Chris) best from the cancer thread but, as he was an RPS refugee as well, there will be those who knew him better than me To avoid this being lost in the cancer thread, I thought it deserved its own if anyone is able, or wants, to donate in his memory "Hi Everyone, it's Kate here, Chris' wife. I wanted to let you all know our news. Chris died last night at 6.35pm. He suffered for a really long time as you know, but at the end it was peaceful and I was holding his hand and his parents were there when he passed. I just want to say how grateful I am to you all for being his support network. He loved this website and the community you have all forged on here was very special to him. As you all have seemed to have figured out Chris was a very special individual who gave so much of his life to others. The girls and I will learn to live without him eventually, but it will be made a little easier due to what he taught us. Thank you all. I hope you don't mind if I include this link below... Marie Curie Rapid Reponse made it possible for Chris to die at home which is what he always wanted. They kept him out of pain etc as much as possible and it's only right we raise money in his memory to make sure other families have the same. www.justgiving.com/fundraising/kate-waller9 "

Thanks for posting this here. I hadn't been into the Cancer thread, so I wasn't aware of the sad news.

Over double the target already. We all knew it was coming but it's still such a gut punch.

I know, I can't think of anything to say in the Cancer thread. It's just awful.

I had no idea. I can’t do the cancer thread.
Good to see the spirit of the forum has remained, E to the F

I can't do the cancer thread because I'm not strong enough. Having seen his posts now it only makes me feel more selfish for digging my head in the sand.
What an inspiration

Ugh. Like others I generally stayed out of the cancer thread. Losing my dad and dog in fairly quick succession to it wasn’t a memory I wanted to remain. A damn shame, I’m sorry for the family’s loss.

Sad news. I always enjoyed his posts, both here and back on the RPS forum.

I was always impressed by Chris' ability to have a massive sense of humour and clear thinking despite the inevitability of his condition. He was a great addition to the forum.

I hope the fact that they've smashed the fundraising goal in such a short space of time will provide some small measure of comfort to Kate and the girls.
Not anytime soon, perhaps, but hopefully in the fullness of time.

Awful news. Really lost for words. Seeing a pic to put to the name really hammers it home more.

Yes. That definitely made it hit home even harder.
Such a shame, he seemed like a great bloke.

It was hard seeing his "real life" photo too. Fucking cancer. This absolutely. Could be me, or any of us. The sudden diagnosis of stage 4 terminal cancer is just something so terrifying.

It really is a rug pulled from under you. My mum had pancreatic cancer when I was 12, it all happens too fast to really comprehend. It’s something I think about on a daily basis now I’m approaching the same age as she was

Fuck. That is terrible news. Like others have already said, I don't go into the cancer thread, as my Dad passed away from bowel cancer almost 2 years ago and my mind doesn't need to go back to that.
I lived with my Dad throughout the period since he was diagnosed (a very fortunate almost 5 years) and saw the deterioration first hand. Those final months were like nothing I could have ever imagined. Even then though, I'm a grown arse person, so I can't begin to think what Chris's kids went through, let alone his wife. Managing to get him home from the hospital, even though ended up only being for about 15 hours or so was really important to us too, and I'm sure Chris appreciated it.
I expect Kate and the family won't read this, but sending all my love and best wishes to them all.
