So looks like Retro Games ltd. (who made The 64 mini etc) are doing a full size, rubber key Spectrum with 48 games on it. Not sure if anyone else in the thread will be interested, but the prospect of returning to having a rubber keyboard sat on my lap, has me firmly by the member berries.

Will it be a working keyboard or the usual fake one these things tend to get? (I assume the C64 one was cosmetic only too anyway)

Every few years I check how much games I got for peanuts are doing, looks like I'll be selling these before they disc rot.

It's just the minis, which are cosmetic only. It's not like a Spectrum keyboard would break the bank

Found my Spectrum yesterday! Not sure how it got dents in it...
Would have plugged it in, but the plug has been removed from the power supply. Also not sure how it's going to look on a 55" screen...
I've been looking at modding one of my many old consoles for retro stuff recently, but I've stumbled on the huge retro handheld scene that I've somehow managed to miss....
I've gone from looking at the cheaper ones, to investigating whether I can get an Odin2 through my business (for testing websites on Android!). Have we got a thread for these things?

The copy of Crash is a nice touch. I assume it’s like when they put Commodore Format in the C64 bundles in 1991 or so and it’s made up of reviews and bits and bobs from earlier issues.

I bought a modded gamecube for swiss on boot combined with a gameboyplayer and to play a select few games such as kirby air ride and Chibi-Robo. Paid relatively little for it.
This got me back into collection some GBA and GBC games. I only found out 3 days ago that there was a sequel to Guardian Heroes and Gunstar Heroes on the GBA! And that there is a pretty good metal slug game... Bought all 3 ar decent prices comfirmed to be original. Interested to see how they hold up today.

Just realised there's a Thalamus C64 collection just out for Evercade. Because I'm weak I bought it but it really is a brilliant value cart. Creatures 1 & 2, Snare, Hunter's Moon, Nobby the Aardvark and tons more. Worth if for having both Creatures games (among the best c64 games ever) in a portable format.

It’s great seeing stuff like that, especially the “late era” C64 games from when Thalamus was around because I didn’t get a computer until 1989. That’s a time when most collections like that are absolutely dominated by consoles and when you look at a 1992 game like Nobby then you’d be more likely to see Mega Drive titles from that era now.
Hopefully that increases awareness too; how many people know what Summer Camp is, for example, never mind Winter Camp? I also remember that having at least one bit where you had to waggle the stick, I hope there’s a solution for that on the Evercade controls.

It's just a shame it doesn't have Sanxion on it. Still, a bloody good collection nontheless and brilliant value compared to some of the other more stingy ones.
Hoping to get some more C64 publisher / developer specific compilations. A System 3 one would be swell: Last Ninja Trilogy, Vendetta, Turbocharge etc...

That one feels doable too since Mark Cale has always been rattling around in the background.

Noo! My first ever run-in with disc rot: I think it's rot any way... something has definitely gone wrong but I always thought (and Google verifies?) that disc rot means you can see all the way through the label layer. It looks like everything is still there but has delaminated

Shame to see them go this way. Dunno if it helps with the PS1 disc you've got but of the music CDs I have that have started to rot, some seem to exhibit a change in colour, looking gold/bronze-ish and/or have areas in the data layer that appear broken and disintegrated. If I shine a light from behind, I can see small areas of what I assume is the rot (holes where the metallic layer appears broken down). Most seem to have manufactured by PDO in the 90s. I don't think it's rot but I've also had some DVDs become useless after the clear surface has become sticky in the case. I'm guessing it's some chemical reaction between the discs and the case they were sold in (one of those wider box-set ones that holds several discs). I've not noticed it with game discs (yet). Nice to see some Japanese Dreamcast games in the rack

Well this is why I'm a bit alarmed. The game is well looked after, and is from a console and publisher that aren't noted for disc rot. Also it really doesn't resemble what's on Google with those pin prick holes: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disc_rotHaving a bit of a crisis about it tbh. I've been aware of disc rot for years but always believed it was a long way off... I won't lie, most of my import stuff is just a way to get cheaper copies of stuff where there isn't a language barrier 😅. Or for 60hz - the FFIX in this very photo is a US copy to get 60hz gameplay.

I haven't checked my older console doscs for a long time, but the only CDs I noticed deteriorating horribly were some 3DO games where they had holes in the shiny layer.

I was reminded the other day of ZX Spectrum games that were broadcast on the radio! Like the actual game loading noises played on a specific radio wave. How cool is that?!
I get it's completely pointless nowadays.

Analog DLC 😅
I find it amazing that worked to be honest, there must be some not insignificant noise and interference in the chain

I saw that. Can’t work out if they were selling repros or emulators?

The pirated consoles were imitations of the iconic devices produced by Nintendo, Sega and Atari and did not meet strict safety standards.
Seems to be reproductions.

That seems to imply they were replicas, but I’ve seen nothing like that on sale. You always get adverts for companies selling cheap hardware with 20,000 roms pre-installed, with cheap looking PS5 pads, but never exact copies of any console.

Maybe that's the point, fill the used market.

They’d be advertised as original hardware from the 80s and 90s though so you’d never see an ad with ‘replica’ in it

Just set up my Saroo catridge for my Saturn, booted up Die Hard Arcade to make sure it works, first time I got to play a game on it since the cd drive died just over a decade ago. Now hunting to fill the 256GB sd card.

I really want an Analogue Mega Sg, but I see they were only a limited run and if I want one I would have to pay about £500-£600 on the secondhand market.
Super annoyed that I missed this. I would love to build up a physical Megadrive library.

Is this black lable or green? There were recent reissues of FF9. Maybe those had some issues? I only have disc rot on one game so far, Koudelka PAL. I managed with trial and error to get through that part of the disc with 20 crashes. Finished the game but its obviously not selleable or useable for a replay. Another thing that seems to impact disc rot is sun rays on the disc/case or high humid conditions.

Told my lady friend I got my Saturn fixed up so she played Virtua Cop and a couple of things for 30 minutes then brought out her own ps1 and sat in front of my crt playing her Spyro game for the last 6 hours.
She's not impressed with Street Fighter Alpha 2 so I gave up heh.

Can anyone recommend a portable device suitable for gaming up to the PS2/Dreamcast/Gamecube era? Not for myself, but my partner, who has expressed an interest in such a thing. She keeps seeing these cheap devices loaded with roms on social media, but I’m surely right in presuming something a little more dedicated that I can obtain roms for myself would be better.
That generation of console wouldn’t even be the ideal. It would just cover all bases. I imagine she’d mostly be playing PS1 era, sugared with SNES and Mega Drive stuff.
