It's already nearly 4 x the (albeit most likely arbitrary) goal of £50,000, so I think we'll be entering into "what are they going to do with all the extra money?" territory as this is surely going waaaaaay past £500,000 and onwards. I can't imagine the merch eats much into the £100 or £200 level unit costs. Maybe they'll tag on some sweet Broken Sword 6 stuff for us....

I mean, realistically there's no way they can do anything with just £50k, and in this day and age, funding doesn't look that easy to come by anymore. The more money they get, the better. Let's just hope they don't go overboard with reward creep like some other projects did.

I've said quite a lot about Broken Sword over the years. Mostly about George being a shit-house.

8 years ago I replaced the stuttering laser on my launch PlayStation with a PSone version and thought that'll be good, years of no use later and it's now failing to load games. Much fiddling with drive assemblies in my future.
Also discovered early PS had inferior graphics to later revisions

Perhaps it’s an inverse character issue as I’ve only ever heard people call Charles Cecil this nicest person in the whole industry.

Just a reminder that the Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter story/Digital Eclipse collected works release is out today.
Already downloaded first thing and started exploring but need to show some WFH activity for a bit!

I've pre-ordered too for the Switch but I am in the office today and out for beers tonight so won't try it for a while yet.

Gutted.
Mate and neighbour of mine runs his own shop and comes across retro stuff now and again.
He got a megadrive 2 in the other day and I said I'll have it if I can get it setup OK (it'd be 30 quid if so)
Now I know there are issues with certain tellys and leads etc and I know you have to clean everything properly which I've done but im just getting the black screen when powering on.
It's going into a LG smart telly, but it does have composite sockets as well as your standard aerial and it's not a super new telly.
I know it works coz my mate tests everything in his shop so it's something my end.
Tried the red, white, yellow rca lead approach and tried the standard antenna approach, on both this LG telly and my other Samsung one. No dice.
So, I've ordered a £6 av to hdmi adapter in the chance it might help.
Got all official leads including the official sega power supply.
Any other ideas? As if this adapter doesn't work, I'm stumped!

It might be difficult to understand what I'm getting at with this question, but does it look like the black screen is the output from the console? With composite you should still be able to tell from interference and maybe some audio humming if you crank up the volume.
Determining whether the black screen is what the console is outputting or is the blanking image from the TV would be the first major step.
I'd expect you to still hear the game too if it was a video cable issue.

Maybe the TV doesn't support 240p? I know some cables turn the signal from 240p to 480i (however badly), making it work on all TVs. Not sure if your adapter is the same.

Yeah I was about to go there, but I've never known a TV output absolutely nothing because of 240p. It's analog so you should see something no matter how badly it misinterprets the signal

Cheers guys.
Well, when I tune the telly to channel 36, and then turn the mega drive on, it immediately goes black. If I then turn it off, I immediately see static, so I take that as a console signal, it's just that something is stopping it from providing the video and audio
There is no audio - I put a cartridge in and left it on for a while and didn't hear anything.
I'm aware of the 240p thing but I was just hoping to get lucky tbh

Stupid question, but have the cartridges that you are using been tested and proved working?

Also has the TV’s settings got a manual tuning option as well as automatic? Turning the Mega Drive on and manually tuning may offer a different attack angle

Yeah that’s the console not reading the game cartridge

Well, I got the av 2 hdmi adapter and that's going to hdmi obviously now, and it doesn't work that way either.
I might just give it back to my mate. I think it's the telly

His telly is quite old and not a smart telly and he told me he needs that to check retro kit and has to mention to customers if they have similar etc

I really think you’d still hear sound.
Try using the audio cables into some audio equipment maybe? Or if it’s a mega drive 1 try the headphone jack

It’s an MD2, but you can still get sound from the 9-pin connector on the back if you have an adapter. Good shout though

Browsing through MyAbandonware, and I feel like I've missed out on dozens if not hundreds of classic click and point adventures, like Alien Incident (1996)

AliExpress seem to have a sale on at the moment, so ordered the Miyoo Mini Plus for around £34 including delivery. I've been debating getting a tiny retro handheld for a while and for that price it's worth a punt. Had to think long and hard whether to get it over the RG35XX+, though...

I think they are just as good as each other but the Miyoo has the better custom firmware Personally I’ve left my RG35XX+ as standard though, the os doesn’t bother me at all I have to say in general though if you have any interest at all in retro games you have to get one or the other, they are literally the bargain of the century

Yeah I saw that.
My favourite one of these is the MX4SIO for the PS2, where the SD card adapter uses the memory card slot. There’s something so interesting to me about the fact that the memory card slot is legitimately the fastest interface on the PS2, with the USB and HDD ports using older protocols prone to speed issues.

Anyway. Playing Metroid Fusion at the moment for the first time. How has this one passed me by for so long! It’s gonna be straight up there with my favourite Metroidvanias

Fusion is amazing. It's one of my favourite GBA games.
As is Zero Mission (which is an absolute masterclass in how to do a remake properly).
The GBA had a remarkably solid library considering it could have just been a dumping ground for SNES ports.

Oh yeah it's easily one of my favourite GBA games already. I'm absolutely loving it. I've had a boxed copy for years, knowing I'd "get around to it" one day, but I'd have been on it way sooner had I known it was this good. Honestly up there with Super Metroid.
Speaking of the GBA though; what a shit show collecting for it has become. They reckon that fake games for sale outnumber real ones 3:1 now and the quality of the counterfeiting is unfortunately really good. I've ended up with a fake Castlevania Double Pack - perfect quality label, perfect plastic case, three headed screw, correct colour PCB, perfect Nintendo stamp on the cartridge pins, correct EU branding and even the embossed two digit code on the label. The only giveaway is when you open it there is the tell tail black blob on the board, and when you save the game there is a half second freeze, which is (apparently) inauthentic. Honestly if I didn't know better I'd say it was a real cartridge swapped with a repro PCB for some reason.
