Lovely garden day just chilling, playing football and super soakers with my daughter, drinking beers and a bbq. Pure chilled out bliss.
Glorious weather too.

Out in Brum enjoying all the Commonwealth games connected stuff. The mechanical bull was a particular highlight.

Started the day with drama, my daughter usually has a blast swimming but today the overzealous lifeguard blew his whistle at her because she belly flopped instead of jumping in feet first and it put her in a right mood for the rest of the session (she's 5, emotions are REAL right now). Took ages to get her out of the funk and then when I did we were about to paddle in our local river and she took a big tumble, split knee so had to carry her home in the sweltering midday sun.
All good now though, both sat in the garden under shade colouring and reading, the wife will be home in a bit and then I'm off to play 6-a-side for a new team I've never met (that could be interesting) and then a cheeky garden beer or two afterwards I think.
Then I only have two weeks of my current job (definitely on the wind down) and then I'm off for over two weeks before the new one starts. Here's hoping for a chilled month 😆

Have a free house for the day/night so walked the dogs to this nice country pub. Had a burger and a few pints. Probably going to have a snooze now and when I wake up have some smokes and play games all night.
Will get a pizza ordered in too.

I'm off work, so have hoovered as the place needed it. And now it's a can and a smoke before the pub for a bit, then some synths later on and then whatever really. Go with the flow day

Last week of the current job, so today was a last face-to-face with my team up in London. First time I've left the shire to travel up since moving last year, was a slight shock to the system. Glad to be going back to relative quiet though, don't really miss the place.
Tomorrow is my last day, then two and a bit weeks off until starting the new job. Tomorrow will be such a doss 😆

Handed in my notice today. New job didn't quite pan out how I'd hoped. I feel like I've turned into a right job diva these days, clearly addicted to handing my notice in.

I was merrily cooking dinner tonight when I felt a drip. Looked up to see water coming through the kitchen light fixture.

Early evening (sea) swim with the eldest, a really rather pleasant way to pass the time. Going coastering (cliff diving) on Sunday with him, starting to brick it a bit now.

I've spent all day painting a pergola bench, table and two chairs with wood preservative. Messy, watery shit that gets everywhere apart from on the wood it seems as I needed about 6 coats in some places. I'm pretty done in now as I've been doing this since 8am.
I think the rest of the day will involve sod and all.

Relatively normal day until I popped over to a mate's house to watch the boxing. Just before the ringwalk, his eldest (13) started acting strange and then threw up. Seems he drank about half a bottle of gin in his room after seeing a Tik Tok video. I made my excuses quickly and left, but am now back babysitting their youngest whilst they took him to A&E. He's fine, on fluids and sleeping it off. Bless him, we've all been there!

Guess I tried speed n weed (and booze) at 15, but that seems a lot less crazy than 13. Hope he's alright, and not grounded for-fucking-ever

JESUS! Fucking challenges on social media. I remember that magnet swallowing challenge that was doing the rounds. That frightened me enough to talk about challenges the little guy might see, either at home or at school. Online or offline. And I was trying to explain why swallowing those little magnets was bad. Swallowing a single one, was stupid. Swallowing two or more is life-changing. My 9 year old looks at me as if I am a fucking idiot for warning him about this. "Do you think I am a stupid poo-poo head? Huh? I am not swallowing magnets, dad. Oh my god!" So, yeah. Glad your friends kid is fine. Today, I took a paddle steamer from Glasgow to Rothesay. Quite cool. I planned it to go and see the Highland Games. But my family said no. Was a tad disappointed, but cheered up when I stepped into Harry's Haw, an actually fantastic little restaurant. Was totally surprised that they did everything they do, excellently! If you're ever there, I recommend them highly. Good day.

Christ, the magnet thing.
I magnetise models and have had a few blisters on my fingers from being inattentive and getting a bit of skin trapped. The thought of some youthful idiot making a tunnel between his tum and his bowel with neodymium magnets because of some moronic challenge is horrific. And I don't even have kids.

He was sent home after a few hours once they'd ascertained he'd not done any damage. The visit from social services will be interesting! He's always challenged them - he's ADHD and possible ASD and is always pushing boundaries. Will see how he is today. And work out how to address it with my boy, who is a good mate and is somewhat similar, if not as severe.

I still can't even stomach the smell of gin because of that day.

My first experience was also 13, but that was on a few stubby beers on a school trip! Did so similar with vodka at 16 though. And once was violently ill after drinking surgical spirit at a party by accident (a mate had it in a can and I took a big swig). Still, probably only a couple times I probably should have gone to hospital.

Top day yesterday. On a mini-break to That London. Did the classic sightseeing (Buck Pal, Westminster stuff etc) before going to see Wicked, which my wife was desperate for them to see. Good shows, albeit not a story I am that fussed by. Then pizza express and home by 8.30pm. Almost no arguing or fighting, it was great. Today is Natural History Museum, Hamleys, more food and drink (Jungle Cave for over priced burgers, but got to be done). Tomorrow is Science Museum, trip to Greenwich on the Thames in the afternoon I think. Can't really squeeze much more in as they just moan about being tired. So better to just do a few things well imo. How was Hamleys Dougs? We’ve promised the kids we’ll take them but given it’s about 40 years since I went it might be awful nowadays.

Hamleys is great - eldest was a bit old for it really and just wanted to hang out playing games, but the youngest (9) was wide eyed the whole way around. It's overpriced obviously but still worth a visit.

I just made iced cinnamon buns from scratch (made the icing sugar myself etc). I am quite utterly amazed that they not only came out edible, but they were gorgeous.
Kitchen is a fucking mess though and it took me most of the morning to make the bloody things. Kneading, rising, rolling out, cutting, rising... next time I'm driving to Tesco's and buying some.
However, until someone sees the kitchen, my family think I'm amazing

Got on the push bike earlier, I really need to start working on my middle age spread. After 2 weeks in California eating out most of the time, I definitely need to do more exercise. Did a nice loop around the big park which is 2 miles up hill from me. I was only out for 35 minutes, didn't want to over do it. Off the pub for a couple of drinks later to work on my middle age spread.

Apparently there were "odd sticky bits in the outside of the buns" according to my picky partner Paul Hollywood when I asked their opinion. I'd kind of hoped for a "well done, that was a nice surprise". Maybe they saw the kitchen first...Ah well, kids and me liked them.

I hoovered and fulfilled some young Redditor's bizarre mash-up wish. Those two things are unrelated.
