I think I’m intrigued for precisely that reason tbh.

Bloody woke brigade, can’t even call a creeping sex monster an “it” anymore these days, gotta ask for pronouns and say “they”

The movie is about mysterious people following you on Twitter after you make a tasteless joke.

It’s the 397th film that guy has made!
That’s impressive even if they’re all shit.

Wonka and the new Hunger Games films are tracking to both be massive flops. I’m not surprised in the slightest. Seems to be franchise apathy as opposed to just superhero films.

I’d love to see the focus group that generated ‘we want a hunger games prequel and a willy wonka origin story’
‘We did one of those. All that shit about his dad being a dentist’
‘Do it again but make sure it’s even more boring’

I reckon it's the same person saying let's do a Wonka film. Some 90 year old who keeps forgetting it's already been made.

All these flops might help them think it's time to start creating original stuff.

Lol.. good one.
I'm guessing they have to do something with the IP every 20 years to keep the rights? So another one around 2040?

I'm still unsure why Paul King decided to do Wonka than do a final Paddington, hopefully Paddington in Peru is as great as the other two films with Dougal Wilson in his directorial debut.
Wonka will have to be pretty astonishing to do well I think.

Yeah, that's fucked. Road Runner/Coyote is one of the few Looney Tunes things I'd gladly pay to see come back. Though a feature length thing might be pushing it a bit.

I know Disney had to buy Marvel and Star Wars to shore up waning interest in their 'classic' characters but one thing I have never understood is Warner leaving their golden age line up to do nothing other than Di-Caprio-Pointing guest slots for 50 years.

Kids today don’t really have any connection with Looney Tunes in the same way our generation did. They might just about have a vague sense of the characters visually but I feel like the moment to milk those properties has probably passed.

Will cartoon animals trying to kill each other constantly work with today's kids? My daughter has watched a few of the classics and doesn't find it as funny as I did when I was a kid.

I always felt these properties rely/prey on our nostalgia for them; after all we pay them bills, not our kids!

Apparently it tested really well, and would likely have done well in the cinema so it's a shame.
My kids have no real connection, but then they didn't have any to the characters in Rodger Rabbit and they loved that when we watched it, so I don't see that as an issue.
I really feel for everyone involved in making it, must be a real gut punch, and I suspect many of them won't want to work with WB again.

The just leaked BTS video showed how much effort had been put into it. WB and Discovery merging has been a disaster.

Even if the brand recognition is low to non-existent, if you cant figure out how to make money from a James Gunn produced movie that is testing well with audiences what are you even doing in the movie business?

I really feel for everyone involved in making it, must be a real gut punch, and I suspect many of them won't want to work with WB again. Yeah, I showed my kids Roger Rabbit last year and I think because they had no connection to any of it they just lost interest. The plot (which is basically Chinatown, if you remember) was too confusing for them to get their heads around and they didn't care to try because they've barely seen Mickey and Donald in anything, let alone Daffy and Bugs. I was tempted to put them up for adoption, to be honest. Having said all that, I think because of stuff like Itchy and Scratchy or even Grizzy and the Lemmings (Google it) kids do still understand the concept of "cartoon predator trying to catch cartoon prey but always ends up getting utterly fucked". So even without decades of nostalgic adoration for Wile E. Coyote, Super Genius, I reckon you could make a film like this and have it work on different levels.
