Joaquin is a rough 50, too. 50 going on 72.

I was confused to hear this was about the beginning of Napoleon's reign and why he was being played by a guy pushing 50. The trailer blatantly includes Waterloo so I think it's his entire career. So 50 year old playing all the way from 25 to 50. Well this news makes it even better.

Bet it doesn't include his trip to San Dimas, so I question its accuracy.

Did we really need a Willy Wonka origin story?

I wouldn't mind knowing which African country he got his happy Oompa Loompa slaves from, but somehow I don't think they'll be adapting that version of the story.

Well I for one am looking forward to the dark origins of the Oompa Lumpas.
Maybe it'll include gamma radiation experiments, and this will join Willy Wonka to the MCU. Willy Wonka is Bruce Banner in disguise.
End credits scene: Grandpa Joe walks towards the screen, slowly turning into a Skrull. He takes out a high tech comms unit and says to an unknown listener: "It's done. Four Oompa Lumpas impregnated. 'No Diggity' gets them good and wet."

Wasn’t the Jonny Depp one an origin story? With his dentist dad and everything?

Big fan of the original movie, could watch Gene Wilder in that role endlessly (he's sublime) so I was originally dead against this origin movie. However, Chalamet is very good casting and could make this more than watchable. No doubt it's an unnecessary movie, but might be a fun watch nevertheless.

I hope it turns out well, the director certainly has enough goodwill built up after he directed the first two Paddingtons.
Another thing to hope for is that a change in director for the upcoming Paddington 3 isn't lessened by the switch. Although considering how great P2 is that's a huge ask.

A new Western movie from the team that created Black Dynamite. And it just looks like Black Dynamite too. Can't wait

The review line that has got me most interested is from the Washington Post
"But the dialogue in “Oppenheimer” is scrupulously comprehensible — a victory for anyone who has found Nolan’s sound mixes to be unintelligible in the past."
Honestly that sentence has made me far more interested than anything any other review has said.
still not enough to pay to see it, mind.

The lowest scores so far are from some of the reviewers I respect the most. Not all of them but it gives me pause.

Not gonna lie, I really liked the Danny Elfman soundtrack.

Let me guess: rapid, staccato strings running up and down like feverish chord exercises? Such a composing range that man has

To be fair at least Elfman actually writes scores that are frequently memorable unlike the seeming majority of modern Hollywood composers going for tone pallettes of indistinct mood notes. Hans Zimmer has a lot to answer for.

Elfman's done loads of scores outside the Burton films. He caters to the film and director more than you might think.

I had to lookup the composer for Indiana Jones 5 because apart from the legacy motifs, I kept noticing that the music was incredibly bland, possibly to match the music. Was surprised it was John Williams with the credit. At 95 years old he’s really phoning it in.

Well this news makes it even better. Exactly. It sounds like a car crash casting and concept wise, but maybe a glorious one. I'll watch anything with Joaquin Phoenix in it; He never disappoints, ever. That said, I was hoping this would provide a gritty depiction of the Napoleonic wars, with a tight story, and scratch the same itch as Sharpe and Master and Commander, but judging by the trailer it's more of a sensationalised whistlestop tour of Napoleon's career. Still looking forward to it though.

At the risk of beating a dead horse, this was a pretty good mashup.
To be honest this whole meme will probably benefit both films. Not that either needed the publicity, but that this whole "rivalry" has gone viral is probably delightful to the PR wings of both studios.
