Jeez, only just found out that Empire has joined Cineworld and entered administration (with the closure of six of their fourteen cinemas).
No great surprise, unfortunate timing with the films out this month mind.

With this sort of idea being proposed it's not surprising SAG-AFTRA are going on strike, the cast of Oppenheimer had to leave the London premiere tonight so that was rather unusual, the crowd cheered though so the news didn't bomb. Badum tish.

I’ve seen John Cusack saying that Say Anything (the boombox movie) was so low budget they had to give him points as well as a sign on fee. Apparently, thanks to some creative accounting, it’s made a loss every year for 35 years so he has never seen a penny from it.
Obviously, something has to change.

Taking points on the gross (not net) on Star Wars made Alec Guinness a very, very rich man. Hollywood accountancy makes dodgy tax avoidance look honest.

It's always the net ones that get people. All that gross gets eaten up by the people who invested in it wanting their pay.

I remember when Fox had to pay out $179 million to the cast and crew of the TV series Bones after they got taken to court for their creative accounting.

At the same time 95% of the people that make the movies get paid a wage and nothing else.

Is that the plot of a David Cronenberg film?

Totally support this strike action, A.I. needs iron clad restrictions. Having Rock Hudson and Marilyn Munroe star in Twilight 6 - Moon Warriors is a hideous concept but it stretches to the entire industry. Why pay extra's when you can pay them a small one off fee and licence their face for perpetuity. Why pay voice actors when you can do it for free from a sample. Why not let Chat GBT write the next Godfather film,
The majority of actors in the US are paid a pittance, not enough to qualify for health insurance on productions that make huge profits but it's the ownership of your image/voice/talent that would concern me.

I can see them deciding to use AI to randomly generate background characters, it’ll get to the point of having the main cast and then everything else, including background characters are all CGI.

I still hope that AI can fix Blade Runner 2049 by replacing Leto There’s an argument that Jared Leto should have it contracted so that he is always credited with a “but” preceding his name. “Starring Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford and Dave Bautista… but Jared Leto”

It's a Ridley Scott historical epic so it's bound to be fucking shit. Gladiator being the exception.
But I kinda want to see this, epic Napoleonic battles, L'Orient exploding on a big screen and the completely crazy casting of Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon. Feels destined to be trash but maybe popcorn trash.

I really liked The Last Duel, it was pretty great. And he's only had 1 fucking shit film and it wasn't even an historical epic, it was Alien Covenant.

I fucking hate it when they use contemporary music in period trailers, especially for big historical epics. Stop doing shit remixes and write an original score.

I’m intrigued to see how long it is. The story of Napoleon isn’t exactly something easily compressed into 2.5 hrs.

Didn't see Gods and Kings but the reviews were not good. I don't actually remember enough about Black Hawk Down to have an opinion.

I was confused to hear this was about the beginning of Napoleon's reign and why he was being played by a guy pushing 50.

He’s one of those directors that I want to look forward to everything he makes but when I think about it he’s made something like 5 films that I really love and the rest I hate/was too bored by to get through.

I was confused to hear this was about the beginning of Napoleon's reign and why he was being played by a guy pushing 50. The trailer blatantly includes Waterloo so I think it's his entire career. So 50 year old playing all the way from 25 to 50.
