The North Water
Ratty-toothed Jack O'Connell is a surgeon with a past (echo) who enlists on a whaling ship. Various other foul craggy-toothed and sweaty men are on the ship. The cabin boy gets buggered. Colin Farrell acts everybody else off the screen, including Stephen Graham who doesn't have much of a part.
Very similar to The Terror, except less supernatural and with a much more potboilery ending. And much more simulated animal (and cabin boy) cruelty, be warned if of a sensitive to cuddly seals disposition.

Cheers for the heads-up. Feels like I need to vet every potential new series on doesthedogdie before suggesting it to the missus these days...
Quite liked the sound of that one though, so will probably take a look on my own (it's the buggery, obvs)

I’m three episodes in to The North Water at the moment. Given the cast and how much it obviously cost to make its been released with comparatively little fuss. I guess all the bbc ad budget went on that Line of Duty submarine show.

My Hero Academia S4
Had to check whether this was a filler arc or not. Aside from a few key moments this was pretty skippable. Rousing set-piece at the end though.
I feel like I’m being harsh because there’s nothing that is bad about the series. But it wouldn’t hurt to kill a major character once in a while. Everyone seems pretty invincible regardless of how crap their power is. More peril required.

I loved North Water but it's very much a PETA horror show lol.
Some great performances from Farrell and Graham and you get great sense of how shit life must've been on a whaling ship. It runs a little out of steam by the end and could probably do with one less episode.

Watching the final season of B99 and it's been a bit flat.

Watching the final season of B99 and it's been a bit flat. Haven't seen it yet, but that's a shame. I guess it was always going to be difficult to balance its usual silliness with a bit of self-awareness now that basically everyone hates the police.

A bit behind the times, but started Schitt's Creek and got through all 80 episodes in about 2 weeks.
I don't know what it is about it, but it's perfect. It's a comedy that's not particularly funny, and yet one of my favourite sitcoms ever.
The wrap up documentary is also essential viewing once you've finished.
If I wasn't already married I'd want Stevie to be my wife.

The shield is probably my favourite tv show of all time and I’ve watched all the big hitters. The wire is close but the shield is one big story with a perfect ending. Shane’s whole arc, Lem... Ronnies Silence and ever changing facial hair Vic always on the cusp of being caught The way you understand every characters motives in it (except Ronnie) It’s just perfect

Lucifer - final season
it was fucking awful, glad it was only 10 episodes. They take interesting premise of end of the world and shit the bed. even use The flash storyline of time travel child. Also heavy misandrist views and "rory" is awful character. Ella finding out was the only good thing

Well...I started S2 of The Shield. That got harrowing real quick. I'm looking forward to your appraisal of S2. I think that is the season where you get to meet Armadillo. And also discover why Ronnie wears a beard. And also get to see a unique use for an oven. And I think that is also the season where you get to see Dutch's finest hour as an interrogator. It's the episode with Michael Kelly. But also, as an aside, since you got to it so late, you may have missed this bit of tragic trivia. This dude killed his wife

Did take me nearly 2 seasons to get it but once I did, I loved it.

The North Water (iplayer)
As above, grim gnarled hairy men doing brutal things at the end of the world. When Stephen Graham is one of the most civilised characters aboard you know the rest are rough. Colin Farrell is especially nasty. Lots of animals are killed, the ships interiors dark and claustrophobic, the Arctic spectacular and empty.
Definitely one for fans of The Terror. Although it probably should’ve been four parts not five.

Quick question from a newbie. We have this thread for seasons we have finished, and we have a different thread for seasons we've abandoned, but is there a thread for show's we're currently watching?

Most of that conversation will take place in a show specific thread to avoid spoilers, with perhaps a bit in the Netflix/Disney etc recommendations threads.

That might mean I have to make about 11 separate threads for all the weird random dramas that I'm probably the only one watching... ;-)

Just have to be on it with spoilers.

Popular ones (GoT etc) have always had their own thread but episodic viewing is becoming a thing of the past... A "Currently Watching, may contain spoilers" thread would be cool too.

The White Lotus
Burned through this in just a few evenings. Probably the best thing I've watched for a while, really interesting characters and very unpredictable.
It did make me crave a nice holiday though.

Finished watching Wolfe on skymax. Looked great in 4k HDR. Basically is CSI Manchester but it's pretty good with a lot more of the juicy bits that are usually missing from US procedurals
Wish there were more tha only 6 EPs but then it probably would've been a lot more filler.

Rick and Morty (S1)
I have no idea why I've held off on this for so long as I've never heard anything but good things about. I'm glad I finally watched it though - it's hilarious, intense and a lot of fun to watch.

Dexter: season 1. Excellent, never seen before despite missus nagging me to watch over the years. Started season 2 straight away. 10/10 Finished season 2 and 3 loved both, the 12 episodes is perfect. starting season season 4 tonight. Is this the Lithgow series that people seem to rate highly.

Yep. Then I fully advise you to stop after that! Morning mate Without spoiling (if possible) why do you and others say that. does it depart so radically from the first seasons or do the characters change so much for example. I can handle a drop in quality, happens to the best tv except BB and Sopranos but I still stay around do to being invested. I assume you are not interested in the new season ?
