It's so lovely. It's mildly amusing but it's bigger than that. S2 adds more depth.
@clem
As for Below Deck, the first few with the stud of the seas were proper good. Like all these things, people are now too aware when onboard.

People Just Do Nothing S1
Finally got round to checking this out, and from what I've seen so far it's mildly amusing rather than hilarious. But it is still well done and very watchable, I'm already looking forward to what they get up to over the next 4 or so series (plus the upcoming film). Also the early 2000s UK Garage soundtrack is very nostalgic, though oddly enough it doesn't seem as if the show is actually set during that time.

Can’t wait to binge the rest when the wife and kids go to bed in a bit 😊

Britannia (S3)
I enjoyed the previous seasons and this continues nicely. There's a wonderful mix of characters, and I like how they blend and portray the different mythologies.

Handmaid’s Tale season 4
Some tremendous performances and very stylishly shot but it feels like at least half the season is just killing time. The escape/recapture cycle is reaching Walking Dead levels now, most of the Gilead stuff just feels done now. Nice to see more stuff from the Canadian side, would love to see some higher level stuff on how Gilead fits into global politics.
I’d be surprised if it had more than one season left.

Reminds me I still have S4 on half. Gave up because of the grinding, rinse and repeat misery if it all.
That review does not read like 7/10

Babylon 5 S1 Only the second time watching this. Watched it first time round when I believe channel 4 had it on at tea time? I didn't get on with it first time but a friend in college at the time convinced me to try again so I carried on and remember it being stunning by the end.
Some very ropey episodes mixed in with the story arc episodes which are not bad and setting things up. Londo and G'Kar still outstanding characters.
Can't wait to start season 2.
I rate Zathras not the one/10

Wentworth (S1)
A bit of a surprise for me this. To be honest I only took a look because a lady I've started seeing is into it. I do vaguely remember Prisoner Cell block H from my college days as re-runs of that and MASH were almost guaranteed to be on TV. It turned out to be a decent watch. The story gets quite dark, although the visuals are quite tame (it doesn't do as good a job as say Criminal Minds on that front). There's some mild titillation and a good mix of characters.

That review does not read like 7/10 Its strange because there are elements of it that are the best they’ve ever been in the series. The performances from June, Janine and Luke in particular are next level, like they should be drowning in awards. All three of them, every look and gesture and facial tick conveys something huge so subtly. But the plot grinds on and has some moments that really don’t ring true or feel plausible in the world they’ve established. I had in my head an idea of where it was going and what kind of fifth season it would set up and it didn’t do either. I’m intrigued but more than ever I’m concerned it might shit the bed.

It needs to be the final season and wrap it up with the next one. If they somehow drag another season out of it they really will shit the bed.

My big worry is that June is going to end up going back into Gilead next season

I think she mopes for half the season being angry at Luke and Serena Joy then re-enters Gilead to try and kill the Commanders and get back together with Nick.
What I was hoping for is that we’d see the Waterford’s trial be the centrepiece of season 5 with Gilead exposed and more focus on the survivors. It would be the final season and end with Gilead still standing but Nick and Josh from the West Wing now leading the council as a glimmer of ambiguous hope.
Speaking of Nick, why didn’t he just defect when he met June to hand over the photograph? How did they even arrange that meeting in the first place?

Downton Abbey S1 (Netflix)Couldn't say how many times I've watched it before but it's still absolutely fantastic. You should give it a go even if you're not a fan of period dramas, you'll be caring about Mrs Patmore's cooking and the Earl's antique snuff boxes in no time. 10/10 Yeah it is great. Thought I would hate it but absolutely loved it. You guys posted this just as we were looking for a new series to watch, so we gave this a punt. Yeah, much to my surprise it's pretty great.

Never watched downtown abbey, but isn’t that the show that had a pre ‘so hot right now’ Dan Stevens?

Ted lasso season 1 - 10/10
Loved it and some serious dust was in the air in the last episode when Roy makes that tackle and goes off.
Not sure if season 2 can be as good, but here’s hoping

Umbrella Academy S1 Really enjoyed it. Was not immediately predictable which is always a bonus and kept it interesting. 9/10 Watched the second series too. Kind of disliked that it was essentially the same story again but in a different setting. Still thought it was great though and looking forward to season 3. 8/10

The Shield (S1)
Why, why, why, why did I not watch this earlier?
Just everything - YES. Vic is such a fantastically well written character. He makes Walter White look 2D.
Please say it stays good all throughout? Because series 1 seemed to wrap things up pretty well for its arc.
9/10 - some of the soundtrack was a bit shit and 2002.

Another viewer for what I believe to be one of the best shows on TV. Too few people for my liking have loved this show. And yes, it stays excellent for the duration of its 7 seasons. As a matter of fact, it has the best final season of any show, ever. There is no better final season than The Shield, SE7. Of course, you can argue that it is all preposterous nonsense, but what do people want from their shows? I know I want high octane action and characters I'm rooting for. Vic and the Strike Team are protagonists for the ages. One thing to appreciate is how many established actors had small parts in this show. I haven't cross-referenced their appearance with where their careers were at that point, but you'll see Kristen Bell, Michael Kelly, Octavia Spencer in single episodes. But you will also get to see Forrest Whitaker and Glenn Close in prominent roles for an entire season respectively. Someone will probably also tell you that there is one season that has had one episode shortened and you don't get to see what the creators intended. Don't let that rob you of your enthusiasm of the show. 15 missing minutes from an episode is nothing compared to what you'll see. Get on the rest! Enjoy it.

The problem with Walt was that I never really got the feeling he actually loved his family. It was all meth, meth, meth. He definitely didn't love Skylar and only a few eps showed he cared for Walt Jr - I count the bullies in the shop, teaching him to drive and...that's it. The rest of the time is just him showing off.
Whereas Vic has a child with SEN issues that he really struggles to deal with - and this is just in series 1.

The phone call he makes in the final season shows how much he loves Skylar.

There is one season early on (S2 or S3) where it goes off the boil a bit, maybe around the time Glenn Close joined. The last few seasons are amazing telly though and the yeah one of the best endings for a series you could ask for. I can't think of many other TV series that managed to have such a prolonged run yet still have such a solid arc. (Sons of Anarchy is another, which had the same showrunner I think).

You liked the final season of Sons? It had totally lost the plot by then.

Did you notice that the truck driver in the final episode of the final season in Sons of Anarchy was Vic Mackey?
