Oh god yeah. (spoilers for the end of Squid Game follow) The "we were just rich and bored lol, BUT YOU BET ON THE HORSES ISN'T THAT THE SAME THING" speech from the main villain was the most annoying thing about the ending by far. The best thing about the show is that all the participants are doing it voluntarily, even after they know the stakes. That's really interesting! But the actual villains turn out to be not interesting at all, and that's really disappointing. (maybe we should have a dedicated thread for Squid Game when it gets a second season) Yeah I definitely agree with this. The show would definitely have been more interesting if it left things a bit more ambiguous and mysterious, and the ending would have worked better as a result too.

I get the feeling that the reveal of the guy behind the mask was meant to be surprising or shocking, but my only reaction was "ok... who really gives a shit". It feels like something that could be saved for a season 2, but that's weird because the creator said that a season 2 wasn't planned. Anyway, good show! It just gets pretty messy in the second half.

Star Trek Enterprise season 3 (netflix)
The Enterprise goes to war after a 9/11 style attack on Earth. Probably the first true season long arc in Star Trek rather than just a framing setting like Voyagerâs journey or the Dominion War, there are points where it feels like 24 episodes is too many for the premise but it comes together in the end. If the very final scene didnât work for me.
More strong character development, some stuff that felt a bit out of character too, but its still a stronger series than I remembered and some of the most intense action sequences of the four 90/00s Treks.
I want to say it was slightly weaker than season 2 because its action focus is less Treky but it was fun.
7.5/10

Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling? I enjoyed the first series but lost interest over the others and never made it to the end Just finished the first season and t's enjoyable enough to continue watching. It's rarely laugh out loud funny, but amusing enough, and the drama isn't too much if you're in a chilling mood. 7/10

Squid Game.
Really enjoyed and would love a second series but I'd be happy if they left it a few years which I understand isn't always possible with actors aging etc.
Creator spent like 7 years trying to get studios to pick it up, was rewritten here and there, changed from a movie to a series so I don't want Netflix doing what Netflix do and rushing it as it'll just end up shit like every series of Money Heist they were involved with.

Squid Game
I echo what everyone else has said. Well executed and intriguing, but disappointing that the sinister machinations behind the games have been done so many times before.
Sets up for a second season, but hard to say where they can go from here. We all know hoe Battle Royale 2 worked out.
8/10 because the ride was fun, even if it failed to go anywhere interesting.

24 Season 2
Really good. I was hooked as I was first time round. Pretty much binged the whole season. It's a proper step up from the first season and it just literally 15/24 episodes where ass temps are turned up to maximum. A lot of the later seasons felt tired when delivering their..almost episodic twists, but here they mostly work and just deliver great entertainment. The Kim storyline is a shocker, and its almost funny what they put her through and I think the writers know this by the end. As a few laugh out moments (Miguel kung fu stance and kick) and quite a lot of general bad ass Jack Bauer moments. It does lose steam a little bit towards the end and they try to drag it out to the full 24 episodes (although the political side is actually well done and well used) but its good fun and nice to be reminded how good 24 was at one point.

Midnight Mass
Thought this was pretty good. Never particularly scary but had a nice feeling of outsider dread throughout. I guess some might find it a bit slow but I liked that they took time to just have two characters have long conversations about subjects like death, faith and remorse. There are surprises along the way I wasnât expecting too. Not sure if itâs as good as Haunting of Hill House but it wasnât far off, and I certainly enjoyed it more than Bly Manor.

So everyone's covered Squid Game satisfactorily, from the overall positives to the jarringly nonsense baddies.
Only thing I'd add is to cover something I asked before watching about its suitability for scaredy cats, and yes you were all correct, it's fine.

Motherland: Fort Salem - Season 2
I really loved the first season of this, but the second season just didn't quite click with me. It's a bit hard to put my finger on why, as it's a combination of different issues.
The first season did a really good job throwing you into this interesting alternative world where the US military is entirely made up of witches. It had some cool characters and interesting friction between them. It rarely explained how anything worked or much of the history, leaving you to figure a lot of it out. This sometimes worked against it, the power levels of the witches were a bit inconsistent at times, but I largely didn't care.
In this season, they suffered a bit from SW-Prequel issues of explaining things they probably shouldn't have explained, and also from the inconsistencies becoming more critical. It kinda felt like they'd rushed the season because maybe they might get cancelled, but then the finale implies not.
It also somewhat suffers from No Time To Die issues of having 2 evil enemy organizations, meaning they can't really focus enough on either, and having unclear motivations for both of them. Both of them seem to be unnecessarily 'evil because we're evil! *twirls moustache* '
Also, it's not a great idea to separate your main romantic leads for the majority of the season.
Still, there were some interesting issues with the army itself, and questions of how far it's ok to go in the name of the greater good. I kept going back and forth on whether the leader of the army was in the right or in the wrong.
7 badass witch haircuts /10
With high hopes that season 3 will get back on track.

Tales from the Loop (prime) 8/10
Really enjoyed this. Kinda melancholic and perhaps slow but a nice sci-fi set in the 70s about the people that live above an underground research facility called The Loop which looks into the scientifically impossible.
Based on the lovely Simon StÄlenhag paintings, it's a thoughtful collection of stories that form a larger whole whilst having a laws-bending mysterious metaphysical quality.
Got some sand in my eye watching this one.

Midnight Mass Similar thoughts to everyone else. Nice, uneasy atmosphere and a nice level of quality throughout. It was however too slow / overly long. Plot / story spoilers ahead⊠I liked that the priest renamed a good person despite being a vampire without remorse. And that the self important zealot woman was called out for being a bitch. 7/10

Ted Lasso S2 - 7/10
Definitely dips in quality compared to the fantastic first season. Still perfectly watchable with a couple of glols along the way.

Midnight Mass Well, Mike Flanagan really is knocking it out of the fucking park. The director's cut of Dr Sleep showed he's really much better suited to staying with longform TV, his narratives are too drawn out for films and it's perfectly exemplified here. Yes, it's really sort of just Salems Lot with a few other King influences thrown in. There's a specific homage to the former, a knowing little nod. It makes a little nod to the small-town island politics of Jaws and that's probably the best description of this: Ibsen's An Enemy of the People but with vampires. The quality of the writing in this really is fucking superb. I guessed most of the big story beats but it didn't make them any less satisfying when they happened. Yes, it is slow but it's character driven and the quality of writing absolutely supports this. I had a few sweaty eye moments at the end, particularly because of how beautifully Erin and Riley's relationship was written and their discussion about what happens at the end. Both of their endings were perfectly intertwined. 9 out of 10.

Just finished it too. I'd have it at 7.5-8/10. It is different to S1 but it had to be - the characters needed more depth and it not just be played for the lols imo. True, brilliant comedy is full of pathos - which Ted has in spades.

The Beard episode was out of place like it was a different show which made it strange.

I agree, enjoyed it in the most part, but not as good as season 1. When I can start to know whats coming and feel the manipulation that's when I usually tend to bail.

I forget the actorâs name but the priest is fantastic. Delivering hellfire and brimstone speeches from the pulpit as well as earnest and intimate scenes too.

The norwegian series Exit is Dr. Phil meets Patrick Bateman. That's a direct quote from the show.

The Beard episode was fucking dreadful, easily one of the worst episodes of TV I've seen in years. I thought this season was just ok.... probably a 7/10. The Keeley and Nate storylines in particular annoyed me. The psychiatrist was an awesome addition indeed, I'm hoping they bring her back!

Ted Lasso S2 is an 8/10 for me. The common complaint that it's different from season 1 is a weird one - it's the middle act of a three-season arc. They handled it pretty well overall while dropping the ball on a couple of things. They needed to give the Rebecca and Sam relationship more room to develop - some real potential here, but it was rushed. I guess the two extra episodes ordered by Apple couldn't be used for major arcs - it was too late in the day. That's a real shame. They were a mixed bag, see below.
I wish they'd just let Keeley and Roy be happy. I don't need that to be an ongoing thread in S3. Leave them alone, ffs.
Nate's betrayal doesn't work because he went from being such a delightful doormat to such a cunt. Spitting - gross as it is - doesn't suffice to encapsulate the transition.
On the other hand:
It still makes me laugh out loud regularly. The scene near the start of the final episode where Ted talks to the team about the article was brilliant. ("My refrigerator has a television").
I love some of the space given to less central characters (though I didn't hate it, I largely agree the Coach Beard episode was a bit of a dud, hula hooping aside. Contrast this with the room given to Higgins and family in the oddly-placed Xmas episode - the bit where he named all the hometowns was just a lovely bit of characterisation).
Ted and Sharon and their unfolding professional and personal relationship was wonderful. She was the best addition to S2 and Ted's unfolding backstory the best part of the story. I can't rewatch the darts scene from S1 without welling up.
Oh, and the symmetry of the football opening and closing with Dani taking a penalty was both predictable and joyful. Absolutely love this show, and S2 hasn't dampened my enthusiasm.

Midnight Mass - 8/10
Agree with what what most people have said.
A very good slow burn horror, I thought the first half of the series was brilliant but it loses itself a little in the final half but still finishes stronger than most other options on Netflix.
I couldn't take my eyes off of it at some parts, I loved some of the debate about religion and the conversations between Erin and Riley about death were very well realised and acted.
Also the actress who played Bev was brilliant, I hated her about two hours in.

Ted Lasso Season 2 - 6/10 Yeah that was a bit weird, I still enjoyed it but didn't love it. I'm not keen on any of the story lines to be honest, the characters are still great of course but I'm hoping season 3 brings it all back on track. Still better than most shows, I'm just comparing it to season 1

Enterprise season 4 (netflix)
For the most part its really solid Star Trek with some very good episodes and even some emotional moments along the way. It really feels like it should be a mid-run series, 4 of 7 like its contemporary Treks rather than the final season. I wasnât a fan of the opening double bill but the episode that really lets the side down is the finale.
8/10
