My moneys on this being the first £80 RRP game… Quite possibly but the extra £10 will be for the 3-4 day early access.

They'd be cheeky fuckers if that's the case considering the rumours suggest they'll roll out other areas of the map as time goes by to avoid crunch.
Maybe standard cost but charge you per expansion.

I mean, that's probably not the worst thing in the world from a HR perspective. Games take fucking forever these days. If you get it to a point where you can have your staff paid but not slave labour, with enough content for people to enjoy over time and - this is the crux - NOT charge extra for it, then fair enough. It'll all be on sale at some point, anyway.

That'll be for the basic premium tier. Deluxe premium tier will be £10 more for an additional 2 days. Rinse and repeat.

One of the best things about rockstar games is the writing..didn't the co founding member/the main writer leave straight after rdr2 finished? Will be interesting to see the difference. Leslie Benzies was involved since the DMA Design days. He left under a very acrimonious cloud that triggered a court case and eventual settlement. He alleges he was literally locked out of the company (after a sabbatical he was encouraged to take), either way he was out on his arse. It was all very dramatic, with lots of details about it on the internets.
Brothers Sam and Dan Houser are credited with making GTA what it is today (getting involved from GTA 3 onwards). Dan left in 2020, also after an extended sabbatical. There's a lot less out there about what that was all about, but it sort of smells of "had a bit of a breakdown and needed a change of scene" to me (not that I know anything ofc).
Anyway, those 3 definitely made Rockstar and GTA specifically what it was in terms of tone, contributing to the writing, design and even voice acting. Especially if you believe what's written about LB, who strikes me as the kind of person who meticulously tries to maintain his public image and probably someone who has alerts set up in case someone edits his wikipedia page.
Where the series goes next is going to very interesting imho. Not only because of how political sensitivities have changed, but 2/3 of the team that made it what is was are no longer involved.

Trying to remember the last GTA game I actually finished. I'm a total sucker/muppet for getting caught up in the hype each time.
I even found myself at a midnight opening back in the day purchasing a PS2 just to play San Andreas, despite never really digging anything in the series up until that point, or indeed since to be honest.
Interested to see how this turns out still mind you. It's borderline review proof let's face it, Rockstar could rip the piss all they want and this will still shatter records regardless.

I mean yeah, it's a given its going to shatter all records for copies sold. I think even more so when you consider how different the gaming landscape is compared to 2012. GTA 5 is still pretty huge but I do wonder how it will be perceived by people of our age. I wonder how much of the game will lean towards the mp side seeing as how much the online makes. I still have the feeling it's going to be a single player game in a multiplayer server.

I’d be very surprised if it wasn’t an exceptional game. What Rockstar do well, they do arguably better than anyone. Incredibly realised worlds with genuinely interesting stories and characters, and real variety in missions.
What’s more of interest to me is whether they’ve managed to finally make it feel fluid and intuitive outside the driving. They’ve just never nailed it, and actually RDR2 was probably the worst for it so they seem to be heading in the wrong direction. They’ve had long enough to fix it but I just have a feeling they haven’t.

Those Stranger missions in Red Dead 1 are amazing. Very simple missions, but the genuinely sad and bizarre moments are all heavy hitting. A shame that, outside of the slave trader and massive racist in RDR2, there aren’t any moments nearly as memorable as the wife with Alzheimer’s waiting for her dead husband to come to church so they can get married, or the guy picking flowers for his dead wife, or the Chinese railway worker who you free from their contract, but they can’t escape the job because of their opium addiction (which you accidentally become a dealer of, unknowingly).
All those side missions are more profound and impactful than any narrative from any other Rockstar game. We need more of those! Proper world building stuff.

I can't wait, the games they make are incredible. RDR2 was their pinnacle so far so I'm interested to see if they can top it.

Yeah partly that. The general movement isn’t fluid, even by third person standards. But also the weapon and item systems are very clunky (especially in RDR2).

The characters seem to have some real weight to controlling them which I guess is good for authenticity but ruins the actual feel.
So what games could they learn from?

Last of Us 2 has similar third person dynamics with cover and such, but is much more fluid. It’s not perfect but a lot better. And still feels weighty in a human way.

From a 3rd person action viewpoint, I've always thought Naughty Dog nailed this with TLoU, I've alwways wanted a Fallout game using that engine (for the gunplay and crafting etc), but maybe it's also more suited to a GTA style game too?

It's only the turning circle of the character I have an issue with, it's ridiculous trying to place them sometimes. Gunplay etc I find easy.

Hope they change the shooting mechanics - they've barely evolved since GTA4.

They always just work for me. I like the animation priority and I feel something "lighter" just wouldn't land as well. I understand and can see the argument against it but like I said it actually plays into it for me.

You press the go to cover button and it automatically takes you to cover. Then a heavy dose of help with the aiming. And then you just keep auto-moving from position to position. The enemy AI is very limited etc. It works and it feels ok but it’s cheating a bit.

Hope they change the shooting mechanics - they've barely evolved since GTA4. One thing about GTA5 being so ancient is that, yeah, whenever it drops onto a service for ‘free’ I always try it out and am surprised all over again at how clunky it is.

I don't mind the shooting mechanics too much as i'm on mouse and keyboard for 3rd person stuff and have a pad on my lap for switching to vehicles, which is a bit of a faff but works for me.

Just imagine how expensive the deluxe edition will be if that's the standard cost!

I've always seen GTA as being satirical and all the story beats played up for laughs. The dramatic storytelling they can afford to do with Red Dead but I definitely would not be expecting dramatic stories from 6.

The free aim does make it a lot more enjoyable. I must admit, I quite enjoyed my time with GTA online. It had enough randomness going on to make it fun and also doing missions to drop off merchandise had a really good risk/reward feeling you don't get in the single player game.
The hackers and what not as well as general sketchiness of the net code was a bit of a pain for sure. Hopefully addressed in the new one.
