It doesn’t say it’s single player. I’d be amazed if that’s a significant part of it now. It also doesn’t say it’s a numbered sequel, but if it was a same-engine expansion a la Vice City / San Andreas I’d hope they would signpost that more clearly up-front. I doubt they’d do an online-only entry, but it’s possible they’ll try to blend the single and multiplayer more. Like having a supposedly single-player campaign, but allowing you to play all of it co-op. That’s basically what happens in the Franklin and Lamar missions in the most recent Online update- it puts you in a lobby where you can add friends, matchmake, or opt to do it single player- and it’s a private lobby so you’re not interacting with randoms once you’re in the mission. |

Even if it were cross-gen, it might still look good. GTAV looks as it does because its origins are as a PS360 game, but Red Dead II is a gorgeous game.

My bet is that it's going to be an evolution of GTA online where there is no border between online and single player, the game will effectively be like a full single player Npc populated world but in a multiplayer server. So basically the overworld will have every douchebag dicking around but the missions will be private or co-op if so be it.

It's also been discussed that the map will change and get bigger over time via online, so yeah I don't think you'll be escaping online.
