darklingIf done well that approach could be good, but making it so freeform can also lead to games being a bit wooly and potentially repetitive. I like the games having a narrative, and if it's replaced with a sandbox it could get lost. I'm just having flashbacks to Mafia 3. I think that's maybe where our tastes differ. I want something less on the rails in terms of story, and something more organic and freeform. I envisioned the "favour" missions to be more story-driven, based around the character who gives the mission, but finding these characters would be pure chance and require exploration... No map markers.

If I play another GTA game (or any R* open world game for that matter) I'd want to see a complete departure from the stale mission structure they currently use for single player. If I could design a GTA game I'd want it to be The Ultimate Crimelord Simulator™. The aim of the game is to gain 100% influence across the whole map, at which point you'd have the police and all other people of importance in your pocket. Influence would be gained by gaining the favour of key characters, or by buying certain property and businesses. The map would be littered with fully functioning businesses (from corner shops, to banks, all with staff routines) all of which can be robbed at any point in freeplay, in any way you choose (think Hitman) as long as you think your plan of attack and crew is good enough. You can find and recruit new crew members (some with special skills) from across the map, as well as gain the influence of people by doing favours (freeform missions). This could be anyone from a security guard to the mayor, who will look the other way when instructed, or allow you special privileges in other ways. That's basically Saints Row 3. The mayor is Burt Reynolds and you can recruit him I've never played Saints Row. It always seemed a bit too wacky for my tastes. Maybe I've been missing out all this time! Might give Saints Row The Third a bash if it's still on Game Pass.

Saints Row peaked with 2, hopefully 5 returns to that level of wackiness because it got increasingly too over the top.

I sort of like GTA Online but they utterly messed up by having stuff like the Oppressor Mk2 (or Shitbike, for short). If the online was a bit more grounded and you could move your merchandise without it basically getting auto missiled it would be more rewarding. Being able to out drive a pursuer is much more fun. Dipping down alleys, taking tricky tight turns and gaps in traffic is great fun and if you get killed that way, fair play. Someone just auto targeting and pressing a button is crap. The Agency business that came with the most recent update added vehicles that can't be targeted by missile lock-on. Unfortunately that doesn't help with the vehicles you use for merchandise missions - but in my experience, most sell missions are pretty uneventful. You lose the odd shipment to someone on an Oppressor or Lazer, but it's the exception rather than the rule. And I've had some great times fending off Oppressors with the Atomizer pistol that knocks them out of their seat 100ft up (if you can hit them), or the Nightclub vehicles that come with minigun turrets. Generally I think they've done quite a few "quality of life" improvements in the more recent updates that make me think they understand what was putting some people off the multiplayer - solo heists, for instance, as well as the aforementioned anti-Oppressor vehicle mods. Gives me hope that the online element of GTA 6 will be far less off-putting and grindy than it was at the launch of GTA V.

When Online first came out, it was fun on a private session with a group of mates and sometimes, it was also fun to have a bash on a hectic public session, running around killing randoms and being killed in return.
Unfortunately, it was super difficult to get enough people together to do anything but the most basic of missions and last time I logged in, the map was a hideous mess of icon spam and kerrrrazy vehicles and races. It's lost me.

I haven't played online for ages, but right from the start it felt very determined to make me and my friend play in the correct way.
We were more interested in just dicking around and playing with crap in the sandbox than running missions. Unfortunately everything was prohibitively expensive.

Doubtless that'll be popular with the basement crew.

Hmmm, if they're adding additional missions and cities I imagine it will follow the road map of GTA online with the updates being free and then reaping all the profit from all the shark cards. But a female co lead is going to lead to some INTERESTING articles.

I just want it to have a good, solid single player content.
I'd also like to see it go a bit, well, sillier. Think San Andreas and Vice City, they weren't Saints Row levels of silliness, but they were less concerned with (Hollywood) realism.
I hope they can expand out from Miami to include the Everglades so I can play my childhood airboat fantasies out. And it would be cool to see Key Largo and the overseas highway.

If they're going to emulate Florida as a main goal then the stupidity writes itself. It's a goldmine for satire.

I've just checked the article from Bloomberg and the map will be Miami and it's surrounding areas so I think you'll get your Everglades and the Keys.

Thought V got the silliness level about right after the grimy seriousness of IV. It was tonally very similar to the Vice City/San Andreas era.

I was expecting to see two guys in suits with a mysterious briefcase in that first scene.
Interesting to see this anyway (assuming these are real). I’m not sure how I feel about both main characters being present in these scenes - if that’s the case for the whole game, it’s a departure from GTA V where they basically led separate lives, that’s what made the switching mechanic so cool. Also, judging by the stripper on a pole, it hasn’t gone as completely “woke” as some are predicting.

Over 80 videos have been put up. The guy who leaked them claims to be the guy who hacked Uber recently.

The amount of stuff on Reddit looks pretty legit for a game in development. I guess we'll see if there's a response from Rockstar because if it's true that's got to fucking suck especially because of people who will only see an in development game and assume this is what the finished game looks like.

I may have misremembered GTA V - I know there were cutscenes with all 3 characters, but aside from the botched heist at the start, and the finale, how much actual gameplay involved all 3?

There was some with Franklin and mafia man, not much but I definitely drove around with both of them in the car. Pretty sure crazy guy did similar.
Not saying it was loads but it might not be in this either.

Certainly looks and feels like a GTA game.
Wonder how recent they are. In terms of fidelity, looks a lot like how I remember GTA5.

I suppose it could be levels and gameplay, dialogue, etc. intended for 6, but it looks worse than GTA 5, graphically and animation-wise.

Assuming the footage is real, then this is from a game early in development that's not even coming out next year. The footage is also leaked and clearly not ready for the devs or publishers to show. So I think people could afford to give it some slack.

What kills it for me is the npc’s constant babbling, like in that diner, they are just playing random samples. Maybe technology isn’t that far along yet, but some AI natural language models might be in order for everyone except the main characters.
