The current public sector job I am in said I had to insure for business use despite only really occasionally using the car just to go to different offices.
Also, despite shopping around I couldn’t get a single quote for insurance that wasn’t at least 30% higher than last year, no change in circumstances.

I’m going to the Westfield in London. I know there are chargers there but there is fuck all info about them online. Anyone know what app they use? (Non-Tesla)

boot handle microswitch & number plate lights failed on the car. common fault, c.£30 official new part to replace, no probs.
it sits inside a long plastic handle which spans the boot door, which is held on by six chunky bolts. which are housed in "plastic" lugs MADE OF FUCKING PRINGLES OR SOME SHIT. Every single lug broken. Manufacturer replacement part for this is ... £350
breakers had to pull two before they found one which wasn't similarly fucked. anyway, lighter by £125 all in and with the invention of only three new swear words i have FIXED MY FUCKING CAR. AGAIN.
I once bought a ford sierra for £50 which drank oil and petrol at a one:one ratio. I once owned a Citroen Xantia which would regularly piss out its rear hydro-pneumatic suspension, resulting in the car pointing 20 degrees up for take-off. I once owned a Citroen 2CV which was... it was a 2CV. All have been more reliable than this god damn heap.

Sorry, missed the replies about business use. I ended up just going with it. So many websites state that you must have it if you might travel to more than one place of work I just didn’t want to risk it. All this because I think I’ll have to travel to one extra site once to refresh my ID card.
They are quite clear commuting means to one fixed place of business.

I've got a courtesy car that's an auto and fuck me the brakes are sensitive. I looked like a right dick for a few minutes, until I adjusted to lightly tapping. What the hell.

I used to do two footed driving before I met the other half (not deliberately, it just seemed like the right way to do it, Atreides style) and stopped after nearly breaking my teeth on the steering wheel when driving her auto. I’m going to the Westfield in London. I know there are chargers there but there is fuck all info about them online. Anyone know what app they use? (Non-Tesla) The answer was: its wank. Half of them don't work

Does that mean you were using your left foot on the clutch and the brake and right on the accelerator? I tried using my left foot to break once and yeah….

Yeah, I used my left foot on the brake and right on the accelerator. Apparently its how race drivers do it but its just how I was show. My dad does it and reckons its just because he is ambidextrous (as am I).

My dad does it and reckons it’s just because he is ambidextrous (as am I). I think race drivers use their right foot to operate both the accelerator and the brake at the same time. They keep the revs high when shifting gears by braking with their right toes and staying on the gas with their right heel Hence ‘heel and toe braking / driving / shifting’

Heel and toe is for racing manual transmissions so you can keep your left foot on the clutch, F1 style cars are semi auto so drivers left foot brake

My car does the rev matching thing even on downshifts so sometimes when I’m stopping behind someone it’ll rev the engine a bit making it sound like I’m super impatient.

It has been a bit of an adjustment going from the rorty Abarth to a car that is as silent in the grave but now I'm used to it I really hear the engine in an ICE car rather than it just being background noise, which is annoying.

Wife's MG4 was delivered to our house today.
She's at work so I charged it up and went for a play by myself.
The radio is shit (seriously where is the bass?), the infotainment system could be a whisker more responsive and the heating controls via the touch screen are an absolute fucking liability. Actually touch screens in general are a liability, end of.
That aside it's very nice, and surprisingly well built for a cheap end of the market Chinese budget job.
It's also surprisingly quick. It actually has exactly the same amount of power as my wife's current diesel Astra, and weighs half a tonne more. By any normal measure it should be slower, but it'll pull the Astra's pants down up to 70mph or so, easy.
Also been ages since I've driven an auto. Got to the end of our road and went to put my foot on the clutch only to catch the (frankly huge) brake pedal and nearly knocked myself out headbutting the steering wheel. Pillock.

One of the reasons I went with the mokka was that it’s a car not a space ship. I’ve never felt older than having to repeatedly say ‘fucking hell, why isn’t that a button?’ during every test drive.
It is loaded with tech (the stereo is actually banging, the best standard one I’ve heard, only bettered by my old factory upgraded BMW with the under seat sub) but it was clearly designed to appeal to people who aren’t sold on EVs yet so is still using very standard design language (for better or worse)

It's properly annoying.
There's a few buttons for the heating controls, but they're only for front and rear demisting and switching the entire fan system on and off.
I don't mind too much of the other non heating stuff being buried in the infotainment, once those settings are dialled in you tend to leave them anyway, and you can configure hot buttons on the steering wheel for driving modes, radio stations etc.
But leave my heating controls alone you bastards.

"Euro NCAP will introduce new testing rules in 2026 that require vehicles to have physical controls to earn the highest safety score."

I think you can put the heating controls on to those favourite buttons if needed. I don't own a MG4 but I've watched so many videos on the car I may as well own one.

Drove my iX1 down to 14% battery at the weekend, was getting very nervous until we were on the final leg home and still ad 20% left.
This was all in London, fuck knows how I'm going to feel when I'm driving to Bognor Regis in May where there is no charger :/

Yeah you can map a favourite button to the heating controls, but you're still stuck with having to play with the touch screen to alter most of the settings after, doesn't really help a great deal.

As well as I’m getting on with mine there is absolutely no way I’d be reliant on just an EV with our shitty charging infrastructure.

Quite a few on zapmap by the looks of things. You will have to pay premium rates though.

This is it. I’ve found it’s not range anxiety as much as charging anxiety.
Which one of the 100 apps will I need? Will it be full? Will it even work?

We were in the peaks at the weekend and there's no petrol station for miles. I'd be shitting it in an EV.
