Certified EV moment today. Thought the car or the charger was fucked because it kept stopping mid charge and reporting ‘charge complete’. I cursed everyone down to the families of the people who made the car as the fucking thing kept repeatedly failing to finish a cycle.
Turns out the car stops charging when it unlocks and, thanks to the wonders of keyless entry, I got too close to it when I put the bins out and then, obviously, every subsequent time I went back to check on it.
Curses withdrawn for everyone other than the person who decided that was a good idea.

Insurance gone up from £750 to £1100. Fuck that, cancelled and uswitched to the same value.
Absolute joke.

I tried to update the car on my existing policy rather than cancel because I'm lazy and they came back with a quote more than double of most of the quotes I had just got on compare the market.
'So would you like to proceed?' 'lol, no, cancellations, please'

It's just pointless. They're all underwritten by the same companies ffs.

Esure have made it infuriatingly difficult to change your car. I've done it before, where you login, change your details, pay the additional/admin.. but oh no.. I've got to sit on a chat, where some numpty keeps asking me the same god damn questions for over an hour. Then had the cheek to ask me if I'm still there, when they hadn't even asked me another question... FUUUUUUUUU

It's just pointless. They're all underwritten by the same companies ffs. It’s a cartel isn’t it, they agree to take turns being the cheap one for a couple of years then bumps the price up to catch out the autorenewers

That's the thing that slightly irked me about the above. After I gave the woman at Autonet chapter and verse she came back with 'and this quote will be underwritten by some rando company you've never heard of'.
'Who was it underwritten by before?' 'Rando Company 2' 'Why can't they underwrite it again this time? Surely after being underwritten by them for a few years it would be cheaper?' 'They are declining to provide a quote for your new car' 'What is the actual point of this company?'

I had that experience with Adrian Flux. Policy underwritten by Markerstudy who did not have a great reputation.

That's why you need to go with someone who has a 20000 star Defaqto.
Tbh it might sound 'boring' but I would do some research into getting insurance before applying for the cheapest, because there's plenty of weird loopholes and bullshit they try to worm out of.

Also regarding the few pages back discretionary commission. None of mine had it, so no extra money

Yeah, I ended up going with Admiral in the end almost purely because they did the least baiting and switching on the comparison sites. They weren't the lowest up front quote but changed the least when you actually get redirected over to them.
Your meerkat quote is £200 p/a *clicks* REDIRECTING YOU TO RAC Psyche! Its actually £600 with £1000 'voluntary' excess!
Absolutely fucking infuriating and, frankly, should be illegal.

Been with Admiral for a few years now, they’ve generally been cheapest until this year when they doubled the renewal to 1400. After a phone call they said they’d match the £850 I was offered from Marshmallow(?) on the proviso that I took my wife off the named driver list. The only reason she was on there was because that reduced my premium 10 years ago, she hasn’t driven a car in 15 years

It was unexpectedly sad when I took my dad off my policy. He'd been on there to bring the cost down pretty much since I started driving but when he ticked over to being An Old Man he started to actually drive it up.

I'm a named driver on my in-laws as I borrow their car from time to time. Assume I'm making it cheaper for them then!.

They knocked £450 quid off just to take her off the named driver, so I’d check those sort of things

admiral love-in but been with elephant (some rando trading name of admiral) for years and with fairly minimal fucking around they've consistently been not quite the cheapest but not quite worth the hassle of changing
still under £300 for a chelsea tractor in cheltenham

Never ever, under any circumstances, use Adrian Flux for your car insurance. Crooked beyond belief and when you leave a Trustpilot review criticising them they will do everything in their power to force you to remove it. If you don’t they’ll get Trustpilot to remove it or a high number of positive reviews will appear to push yours down the recent reviews list

Arse.. Picked up my car yesterday. Checked it all, looked fine. Then get home, and either it's the light.. but could see a dent on the crease of the bonnet. I cba to go back and argue with the dealer, as it's used. But me being a perfectionist is like.. must fix it. I'm sure a dent repair can pop it out.

I didn't even know brokers like Adrian Flux were still a thing. Can't imagine they'll get a huge amount of different quotes than the comparison sites or the well known ones who aren't on them.

When there’s a thread about insurance on car or bike forums you always get dozens of people saying go to Adrian Flux or Carole Nash. I guess they’re great if you live in the absolute arse end of Fucknowswhere with acres of secure farmland surrounding your underground vehicle silo?

I've never had a problem with Adrian Flux, they've always matched whatever quotes I've got from the comparison sites. Admittedly never actually needed to make a claim with them, so if that's an issue I might look elsewhere next time.

I forget Adrian Flux are still a thing to be honest. They were very much the go to back in the late 90's when me and my mates were fannying around modding cars and no other broker would give you the time of day.

Insurance. So I’ve let my insurance auto-renew for a couple of years and am absolutely certain I’m being fleeced. I’ll be able to search for new quotes from tomorrow. I’ve changed jobs since then and no longer have a customer home visit element to the job. I’ve currently got Business Use on as a result of details of employment being out of date. I primarily work from home and go into the office between once and twice a fortnight. This could be realistically a choice of two offices and one mini ‘hub’ office. We will then occasionally have conferences at local hotels and the like. I’d class this as a commute personally but this reference says different: www.car.co.uk/motor-insurance/faqs/car-insurance-advice/do-i-need-to-insure-my-car-for-business-useAny thoughts? Mrs is adamant I don’t need business.

I had the exact opposite issue with my partner insisting we get business cover because she *might* need to go from one office to a site maybe once or twice a year, which in my experience is a massive overestimate. My insurance company said if it's just going from home to a place of work and back it's commuting, *even if* that place of work could change from day to day.
We still ended up getting the business cover.

Yeah, that sort of thing is definitely just commuting. Surely. We have business for my wife as she works with special needs kids amd has to take them out and about. Was a minimal add on on though iirc.

How would they know if you was travelling to work or just going into town shopping anyway? I doubt they even look at these sorts of things that closely but who knows

I work from home, but there’s always a possibility I’ll be asked to go in for a meeting. I bought my insurance without commuting, assuming it would be more expensive? But I just changed it to add commuting and got a refund of £1 haha.
