I was rather unimpressed by the BBC's clickbaity headline that made it sound like Spotify had thrown Neil Young off the platform. The article itself was fine, but the headline was pretty misleading. I guess that's a separate issue though about reporting and media. Yeah, it was obviously Rogan who did that. |

Anyone who doesn't know Neil Young's music should start with Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, Harvest, After the Gold Rush and On the Beach also amazing.

I still have a 'library' room which is full of books, blurays and CDs. I am not interested in going streaming. I like tactile. I like picking something up in my hands and reading the liner notes etc. If I hadn't had financial considerations at the time, I still would have hundreds of laserdiscs in racks. Which though completely moribund, I would enjoy picking up in my hands, reading the liner notes etc. meh, the last interesting cd was kid a if you cracked open the inside case and looked inside. I still have all my cds but I not a skipper or playlister as I love the art of and album. My ps3 is still in service for my few hires Audio cds that I pretend I can hear the difference I gave up on all physical media when electronic got to virtually the same quality, was more convenient and meant I didn’t need a whole room in a house to store it. Also walking around with a discman with 50 minutes battery life seemed impractical. |

If they get a significant number of artists, it *might* have an impact. Given the minimum ad spend to get on Rogan's show is $1M I think it'll need quite a lot of users to cancel, or a fair number of big artists.
Or maybe getting sponsors to cancel their sponsorship might be a better approach. Though I imagine the sort of company who is currently advertising on his show probably wouldn't be the type to cancel over stuff like this.
Or get BTS to want off Spotify...

I am quite happy to say I like James Blunt. His music is insipid but I think he's pretty cool.
It's like the opposite to usual issue of liking someone's music, but knowing they are awful people.

Joe Rogan does give me hope in that you can be a clueless middle-aged fuckwit who thinks that your career peaks are well behind you, yet become massively successful with no discernible skillset other than juicing and sucking up to people.
I mean, he's the worst interviewer pretty much going. His research is shit (Jamie?!), he has no insight, I mean, I don't know. But that's not stopped endless other YouTube fuckwits becoming massively popular.

To be fair, that’s what made him an, arguably, great interviewer. He got interesting, smart people on and asked them the questions like an average dumbass. I think everyone has listened to him at some point because he’s had someone they are interested in.
Then, eventually, it just became a parade of arselickers and fuckheads.
