Also my library still has a gigantic collection of CDs for some reason, it's kind of like Spotify but weirder.

I just listen to music in my head I do this with Metallica. I listened to them to death to the point where if I try listening to them now, I'm done about 30 seconds into a song because I just 'know it'

tidal has a small library compared to Spotify I'm not sure if that's true any more. So far, I'm missing virtually nothing from my Spotify libraries on Tidal and I have some fucking esoteric tastes. A couple of songs on playlists were missing, but mostly it's because the tagging is slightly different. One artist is not there (out of a lot) but they're not a surprise, only one of their records were on Spotify. how’s the tidal discovery service? Spotify was great but I sometimes felt I was getting stuck in an echo chamber.

I only started using it this morning, so at the moment it's only really recommending the stuff I've already told it I like.
That said, I very rarely used to get anything new off Discover Weekly anyway.
I'll come back to it when I've used it more.

If you're old enough, you may remember when Joe Rogan had hair and used to present Fear Factor and make people drink donkey semen before that became normalised on every reality show.
I used to watch some of his stuff on YouTube because he'd do things like hourrsss long interviews with special effects guys like Rick Baker and just let him talk about his career. Stuff like that was wonderful. And then the next week he'd have Milo Yiannopoulos or Ben Shapiro on, and I had to remind myself - this is America, it's what it's like. But what he's metastasised into on Spotify, Jesus.

I think you know exactly why it's being framed this way and you're just picking this slightly pedantic hill to die on, for some reason. This. I get that you like the Devil's Advocate role but really (Aimed at aunty)

I was working at HMV at the time and the basement of Tower Records when that opened was everything I wanted distilled into a record shop, Hi Fidelity style. All it was missing was the nihilism, because 'Merican company

I wasn't advocating for Rogan or Spotify. My point is that this story is all Young. As Nick said, the ultimatum is really a publicity stunt
It's not something I want to fall out with people over. It's disappointing to see some people resort to insults and condescension but oh well

I still have a 'library' room which is full of books, blurays and CDs. I am not interested in going streaming. I like tactile. I like picking something up in my hands and reading the liner notes etc. If I hadn't had financial considerations at the time, I still would have hundreds of laserdiscs in racks. Which though completely moribund, I would enjoy picking up in my hands, reading the liner notes etc.

What would the point be in quietly taking a stand, the whole point of protest is to be heard
