Hundreds of doctors have written to Spotify asking them to spread spreading misinformation, it took Neil Young to make it news though. Hopefully other artists do the same and Spotify start to feel the pinch enough to do something about it. You can still feel that way without inventing a face off drama between Rogan, Young and Spotify. Young made the ultimatum with no clout, he may as well have just request his music to be removed but that wouldn't have been as big a story. Maybe that was the intention Neil Young suffered from polio as a youth and attributes even surviving to a vaccine being available. He's always been pretty outspoken on the value of vaccination. Whereas, Joe Rogan is a fuckwit. Somehow, something that is actually important because disinformation affects actual people's lives is manufactured? Do you get out much? |

I've just cancelled my account. Any suggestions for a replacement that isn't run by cunts? Qobuz is great, the best sound quality , pay the most to musicians etc. Giving Qobuz a go now, have been through all the others apart from Apple Music. Discovery looks a bit lacking, and it's back to using the Sonos app for streaming, but worth a go. |

It's being described as an ultimatum because Young has apparently told Spotify that if they continue to host vaccine disinformation (specifically, Rogan) on their platform, he does not want his art to be associated with it.
It's being described as Spotify siding with Rogan because they said ok and removed Young's music.
None of that is manufactured. If you think Young has done this for publicity, you are incorrect. He doesn't need it, or Spotify. Spotify doesn't need him either, but it does need Rogan. It also needs its subscribers, who are voting with their wallets, as is their right.

No one expected Spotify to do anything other than what they did. It was never a contest. It's entirely disingenuous to suggest it was something Spotify had to soul search and make a decision over. Didn’t Neil Young say “its me or him” rather than just “take me down”? So in a sense Spotify did side with Rogan and his conspiracies over Young. But then Rogan basically works for them so it was to be expected. Yeah he did, and in a way that made it clear that he was completely happy with his stuff being removed. He hasn’t ‘lost’ as many online are suggesting, he knew what Spotify would do. |
