I looked at spotify's twitter feed, which is mainly short tiktoky gifs of artists promoting their new releases, and it was at least funny to see that 90% of the comments on each one were complaining about Rogan. Probably a vocal minority, but what the heck. First and last time I look at Rogan or Spotify (or any corporation)'s twitter feeds though. If Joni is the only other one who joins in, I'll be rather unimpressed. That said, the only alternatives here seem to be Youtube music or Amazon Music (don't have an i-device), and I can't decide who's better/worse to support.

Covid flipped Brand, same as a lot of people. His conversion to the darkside has been fairly dramatic. A combination of thinking you are smarter than you are combined with an insatiable diet of internet "facts" and youtube videos has turned him full QAnon Sith. Big pharma villains, democrat pedo's and anti-vaxx. A baying crowd in the comments and of course the the harder you lean into the alt-right the bigger the audience/paychecks. Christ, I hadn't checked up on him in a while but fuck he really has gone full on Infowars. I suppose it was always inevitable, I remember he used to be fan of David Icke back in the day and always used to spout things that I remember we're just plain not true but would gloss over it when Matt would point out he was talking clear bollocks. I guess we'll just ignore the irony of him using Big Tech to profit off his ramblings as an 'ordinary guy'.

Young pulls his music over rogan
Mitchell pulls her music over rogan
Harry and Megan express concerns but won’t pull out of their $25m Spotify deal, totally going to tell them how very cross they are though

I’m sure it’s not entirely their decision. At the moment Spotify have paid them 25m per podcast which isn’t a great ROI.

I went way too far down a hole in this thing last night. I've not seen anything concrete about Swift leaving the service (and currently - according to someplace or other online - she's not the highest streaming artist - she's not top 10 either). www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-59491101She was number 2 globally last year.

I mostly came out of this with an even greater dislike for "influencers" who will do and say anything to get more viewers and the companies that support them. I realised also I'm spending too much time in the cess pit of the internet and it's not good for me. I've cleared most apps from my phone last night and have timers on now. I'm considering what to do about this place as I've an addictive personality (hence a previous drink problem) and I'm not good at moderation. I'm working on that as this place has benefits. Tldr Rogen is more of a dick than I previously thought and Spotify are corporate sellouts. Bin it. All of it. Get a good news site, a passion site (I've got rugby and 40K) and leave it at that. Side effects include obscene levels of shitposting on FG and looking up the most obscure Wikipedia articles, (I've been on a London history tangent for about 3 weeks) but you will feel better in the head. Get rid.

Well at least we know the daily mail will be fully behind this movement now. "Meghan hates all polio sufferers" etc

I'm not sure where I was looking last night. Possibly "current most listens" which is Bieber according to routenote.com/blog/most-streamed-artists-on-spotify/#:~:text=Thanks%20to%20his%20new%20album,over%2069%20million%20monthly%20listeners. But then I know nothing about the validity of that site. I do know Taylor looks nice and seems like a nice person if that helps. Oh and there was some mention of a guy called Bad Bunny who is doing very well on the streaming front which made me feel really out of touch / old as I've never heard of them.

Danno, I think you're right. I've told my wife I'm done with news sites. I can't change anything they report on and they are just reporting on things to make people fearful. I don't have any other websites aside from odd wanders into Reddit for game info and I've a fake and blank Facebook site that I use to connect to my local village noticeboard so I know what's going on here. Aside from that it's just this place. Oh and LinkedIn, but that's mostly mothballed.

I particularly liked the sub-header on the BBC News site:
See, they're not a pair of unprincipled charlatans - I mean, sure, they're keeping all that sweet cash, but they're going to continue to lobby for changes!
Nothing like putting your money where your mouths are, I guess.

If you need to force the issue, seek out some nazis on Twitter, Facebook, wherever and call them cunts a lot. Banhammer will fall within about 20mins. Don't look back.

Oh, I've got a Twitter account somewhere. I had to create one so I could get three month free stadia. No idea what the details of the account are though.

Yeah but no-one has fiddled with any kids yet so it's ok eh? Talking of royals, I had to check if Prince Edward was still alive as he's never in the news. Who knew he'd be the only one with any sense? Apparently he's living happily in one of his mum's spare houses. Probably chuckling away to himself about the rest of the family.

I realised I’d gone from just reading things to bothering to reply and engage with people. Time to kill that all off. I might rejoin in a month but I’m not sure Neil Gaiman posts are quite enough of a reason on their own.

Coldwar Steve, some 40k painters, We Rate Dogs and Gaiman were a ray of light in an ever increasing Pissy Biscuit. But twitter insisted, constantly, that I would eat the pissy biscuit. It's very annoying that I can't browse witbout an account. Scroll more than 3ish posts and get confronted with the "HEY TWITTER IS GOOD TIME TO MAKE ACCOUNT" thing, but I'll take it.

Misread that as reasons to leave Twitter and not as reasons to stay and panicked for a moment.
Not that I follow any of them, or even use Twitter in the first place. Cold war Steve reposts here have been great. Gaiman seems like a good sort from the quick browse I've just had.

It's an interesting one because Spotify can't really play their get-out-of-jail-free, "we're just hosting content" excuse- I'm sure they can also point to some pro-vaccination podcasts but Rogan's is the biggest one on their platform, they paid a huge amount of money for it, and it's spouting garbage. They're complicit, they need to do something about it.

If you have the self restraint, there are some very good accounts you can restrict yourself to. My problem was getting into following anything political outside of the good stuff and I ended up skimming through all sorts of horrid shit. The ban was a good thing overall

Wanted to say cheers to the thread for suggesting Tidal. It’s evidently grown it’s library a lot.
As an old techno head to have it suggest Claude Young, James Ruskin, LFO, Robert Hood and Plaid suggests it’s got what I want
The mix it created started with Basic Channel, who I hasn’t said I liked.
Yeah, new steaming service found. If Tidal can grok me to put up some Basic Channel it’s going to have zero problems offering up artists in other genres I like

Youtube Music Amazon Music Tidal Deezer Apple Music (on Android also) Qobuz Thanks, but Tidal = not available here Deezer = Not available here Qobuz = not available here Stupid regional restrictions. No oceans! /rps Android seems such an afterthought for Apple Music that I'm not sure I'd trust them to keep supporting it. Better the devil you know, I guess.

I mean tbf, Apple is as likely to keep supporting an Android product as Google is likely to support their services.

If you get the Unlimited package, it has / had the largest selection of music around and it's HD.

Yeah, I switched to Amazon mainly because it's quite cheap on Prime, I wanted a HD stream, and Tidalhad become too expensive. I still prefer Tidal's interface but Amazon is perfectly acceptable now.
