That does happen. I actually wanted sky stream rather than sky Q when I was reupping last year but it wouldn’t appear on their site if I was logged in and their call operators kept parroting ‘you already have the best service we provide. I couldn’t really be arsed to argue so just locked that in.
I suspect the opposite is now true because they are winding down the satellite installs.

So currently doing the renewal VM dance. Current price, £29 for M125 only. Went up to £37 last month. On the phone they wanted £48 negotiated down to £45. Online renewal they want £41. New customers get twice the speed for £32.50 a month. I mentioned this, the chap said to renew as a new customer with a different name.
Just on a webchat to see other options, hilarious really.

Just give them the 30-day notice to cancel and then when someone calls you to try and persuade you to stay, say you want the new customer price and speed increase.
That always works for me.

Don't miss the call like I did - they only called once and didn't get a letter either.

Does anyone have any experience of current latest Google Chromcast tv (4K) and the live TV guide features?
To keep Mrs Ewing happy I'm paying for Sky Q freeview only (Still blimmin £15/mth) and would like to cut the cord on that but know I'd be in trouble as she doesn't like using on demand of ITV or Ch4 with endless adverts and the like. I keep thinking of renewing SKY Q to combine essentials and Netflix but I object to them still charging £8/month for HD 20 years on so don't really want to, also don't want to commit to them for 18months.
Adding that SKY Q cost to Netflix premium, Disney and prime that's about £50 / month but I'm wondering if the latest google TV unit has a good enough live TV guide to substitute Sky Q.
What does everyone else do with kids who don't really know what live / traditional TV is and think the Sky remote is for boomers?

Get a PVR/freeview box if the TV isn't great. Or if you don't need to record 2 channels at once, a USB drive hooked up to your telly.
Can't believe they're charging for Freeview!

Currently pay £80 per month for cinema, netflix, broadband, hd, phone etc. Contract expires 11th Jan and the renewal they offered on the app was £115 or something stupid. Called up today and said I wanted to cancel, they offered £95 as the best they could do. So I put my big boy pants on and cancelled.

Not until 10th Jan. I won't miss it anyway, only reason we have it plugged in is because my mother insists on calling it.

Not quite sky, but binned viaplay & going to let my strava sub lapse.
Going to see about sacking off Netflix or disneyplus if i can convince our lad to let one go. Keeping bt/tnt sports though.
Then it's time to rein in the bt broadband full pelt line for something more sensible once that contract length ends.
We don't really need to, but all this shit is just snowballing and a lot of it is fairly needless expenditure.

Aaand renewed sky. £50 a month for Sky, Ultra HD, Sky Cinema and Netflix, got the broadband elsewhere (which works out at about £10 a month after quidco and vouchers and whatnot.
Figured it was worth it in the end. Mrs Hermit is having some anxiety issues and changes really fuck with her head so sticking with what she knows will save me no end of headaches, plus by the time you've factored in Discovery+, Paramount+ and resubbing to netflix there's not a great deal in it.
Also the Q box is brilliant.
In a case of gun jumping though, I now have a registered but otherwise unused, unboxed 1TB recordable freesat box for sale if anyone wants one.

Never mind, as you were. Sky are out of here.
I'm sorry Mr Hermit, we can't apply the discount we've offered you until after all your services have been terminated. Please wait until evrything stops working, give us a call and we'll get it switched on again for you.
Get fucked. I was prepared to let you stay, but there is no way I'm begging you to come back.

Why oh why does my sky q box keep recording BBC breakfast on random mornings? It's not even like it's setting up a series record because it's an individual recording.

Copied from the broadband thread because I assume that a lot of folk with Sky TV often take their broadband too.
Currently on the phone to Sky (my provider) as Full Fibre has appeared in my town.
500mb/s with Sky @ £53 (offered me £48) 500mb/s with EE/Plusnet @ £34.99
Seems quite the difference in price! Has anyone had any decent offers from Sky to keep them loyal?

One of the funniest I had was leaving Sky broadband. They got it down to £26 and I told them Vodafone offered me £25 for similar speeds.
Woman on the phone: "it's only a quid. Are you willing to leave us over a quid"
Me: "yes"
Woman: stunned silence

Should have flipped it around with "are you willing to lose a customer over a quid".

Insanity.

Seems such a strange way to lose customers, especially when these are 2 year contracts. 23 years I've been with Sky in one way or another - they must me haemorrhaging customers like nobodies business!

Don't you worry my other half ensures their permanent custom due to having an issue with almost every single other provider for some reason.

Farming the call centres out to a mass phone, er, farm means there are never any experts to talk to. Nobody wants to offer anything other than waiving some make-believe fees. Spoke to the local cancellations team and they were able to (just about) match the offer and were happy to keep me as a customer (of 23 years!) 45 mins in total arguing the toss (calmly) with bad CS teams, and 6 mins with someone that understood and could handle the call. Very frustrating, but ultimately rewarding.

Just had my renewal chat with Sky where each person says they can't match what I'm currently paying until you get to the final line of cancellation "Well, we do have this final final offer for you"
Thanks Mr Sky, see you again in 18months.
