After binning sky movies a month or so back I lost access to Paramount+ ... until today (or maybe sooner) when I walked back into the house to find Ms Voodoo watching some girlfriend on a beach shit on P+.
As it turns out, my access is working again and I'm not paying for it, not payment info setup and nothing listed in Sky sub. Wonder how long it will continue.
I can at least finish off Star trek now

Its also a great example of the 'Van Houten Effect', where a couple actually look like brother and sister.
In other news, I'm due to 'recontract' with sky next month and Virgin just finished their roll out so I can threaten to leave them for a competitor.

The problem is I do actually like sky and I'm actually quite happy with it so I never go in particularly hard. They will really need to do something about the broadband, though. Its absolutely raining flyers for cheap BB through my letterbox.
Speaking of which, anyone heard of Hey! Broadband? They are absolutely desperate to sign me up. We get a door knocker every few weeks and its pretty cheap.

I have kept all my stuff with Sky before except broadband and moved to a competitor for cheaper. They then contacted me in my grace period with the other provider to price match.

This article gives an interesting insight into the death of Sky Q. Personally speaking, the Sky Q box is the only reason I still have Sky. If the end of satellites in the sky means that broadcast TV via Sky will be no more and the only options available will be Sky Glass/Sky Stream, then I am out. It will be Freeview and other streaming services for me.

That’s a good point, has anyone recontracted recently? Are they steering you towards sky stream or keeping you on sky q?

Did at the start of March and not even a mention of me moving away from Sky Q to one of the other ones.

Trying to think of alternatives and I think just getting a roku might work, anyone use one for live TV at all? The freeview picture on our TV is not as good as on our sky q box, so that's kind of a priority.

Well I went for the nuclear option with Sky, ended up cancelling completely when they couldn't get near £40 a month like Virgin are offering. Kind of hoping they're going to send out a last ditch offer now.

Sky cancellation update. After two weeks of nothing from Sky yesterday I got a half hearted text message saying "please don't goooo", with a phone number and link, saying there's an offer.
I tried the chat first and the best offer they could get me to was £64.50, which is for the basic Sky Q package, 64mbps broadband. I'm currently paying £63 after the April price increase, so not a great offer...
Today I thought I'd try phoning, spoke to Sky Q and again best offer is £64. Asked about the Netflix increase and got that knocked down by going to the ad version which is included in Sky Signature. So it's now £60. I asked about the prospect of going to Sky Stream, as new customers are getting that for £40 with 125mbps broadband at the moment. She said she has to put me through to the Sky Stream department as she's only Sky Q, so I had to go through the whole thing again with someone else. Loooooooong story short, she came back with Sky Stream £28 same broadband I'm already on at £33, ending up at £61, plus £39.99 activation charge for the stream puck... So more. I had to temporarily uncancel my cancellation to find that out.
I'm really getting fuck you vibes from Sky at the moment. Apparently I was told that as soon as I'm cancelled I could then get the new customer deals, but I'm pretty sure that's not true. I asked her but her response was "well you can do anything you want at that point..." I don't really want to cancel the broadband though.
Ugh, I'm going to have to talk through with other half tonight.

Isn't it 90 days before you're entitled to new customer perks? That might be a VM thing as opposed to industry wide. Doubt it's immediate.

My partner is telling me to just cancel, and she'll set up a new account. Let's see if it works... If so we'll just do that every 18 months.

Virgin allow you to cancel then have someone else in your household start a contract the next day as a new customer.
Not sure if the same applies to Sky, but might be worth exploring if they're still playing hardball.
I'd hold your nerve on cancelling a little while longer.

Whilst not TV related, I've been with sky fibre for a while and noticed my latest bill is £51 for literally 80mb fibre. Looked at account and I had some shitty free calls package for £8 that I don't remember signing up for. Found a competitor offering same internet for £23.50 a month under 12 month contract. Rang sky up and the best they could do was remove the calls and give me internet for £31 but it would be an 18 months contract. They really are shit aren't they? What kind of an offer is that to tempt me to stay?
I wish I had full fibre here or Virgin but I'm stuck with regular 80mb fibre as best I can get.

Yeah seems like the offers have stopped unilaterally, or we're both extremely unlucky. I've never had an issue negotiating a good deal until these last few weeks.
Looks like I'll go with Now as it's the same openreach service, so hopefully will be a quick switch that way. £23 a month.

Ugh, it will be a sad day when the digital / satellite channels get turned off and everything goes streaming only. Although I probably shouldn't say that seeing as I work in streaming.
Look forward to the future of unskippable personlised ads and live events that run minutes behind real time everyone!

Look forward to the future of unskippable personlised ads and live events that run minutes behind real time everyone! I'll miss the ability to record stuff and fast forward through the adverts. It's why we have a BT TV Pro box that got a rebrand to EE a couple of months ago. I'm hopeful of getting a better deal with VM this year so we can have TV service back with Eurosport and BT sport (now TNT)

It's inevitable that the satellite channels will go, there's three satellites that serve the UK and they're soon coming to the end of their service, with no new satellites on the horizon.

Wasn't it the same for Freeview Play? Pretty much fuck you if you want to use this on an existing device, we're only going to put it on a select number of new devices.
I look forward to never bothering to check this out too.
