Sky won't play ball after being with them for six years - can't even get a New Customer deal which is all I want. Virgin came into our area a few months ago so at least I have an alternative now but trying to navigate their website for TV/Broadband deals is a nightmare. I'm also wary of any potential drilling and long cables as our TV is in an awkward place in the middle of the room. Any recommendations for a decent Freesat/Freeview HD box? Tempted to bin the TV package off completely as we don't watch it much anyway and just go for the internet. Have you actually left? If not do that and the retention team call you before the 28 days is up and will give you what you want within reason.

Not yet - bit wary that if I do and Virgin won't suit my needs/get set up in time I'll be stranded without internet. TV I'm not that bothered.
Of course that's what they want!

I will do for the internet if required, just a bit limited in my area in provider choice.

If they don't call with a deal, then nothing to stop you calling back towards the end of the 30days to change your mind and just keeping it.

Just FYI, I'm on £29 a month for just M125 Fibre and Telephone (never used) package for VM. This jumps to an astronomical £51 in November so time for the renewal dance.

We recently ditched Virgin who wanted to start charging us £80 for basic TV and internet and are rocking Freeview and PlusNet now. £25 per month for a two year contract.
We watch so little OTA TV these days that I honestly wonder if the family would have noticed yet if I hadn’t said anything. Disney + and Netflix still work so nobody cares.
Can confirm that my LG TV is as good as any external Freeview box, or at least anything that wouldn’t have cost a few hundred quid

Tempted to bin the TV package off completely as we don't watch it much anyway and just go for the internet. I don't know if it's changed over the years as my mum had a box on the wall outside and one inside but we had one cable through the wall from a brown box and this was put into a splitter with one cable into the VM TV box and the other into the router. Now that we have ditched the TV and phone line with them I've removed the splitter and have the one single cable into the router. We have a Hub 4 but I believe the Hub 5 is meant to be better and we currently pay £22 for M250 broadband which goes up to £50 in October 2024. This will increase before that somewhere between Feb and April inline with the RPI and a change to VM contracts now means you can't wiggle out of the contract because it's now baked into it like all providers.

I cancelled Sky TV a few weeks ago and it's due to shut off this time next week.
A week after I cancelled I had a missed call from them (probably to renegotiate as I was hoping) - I thought they'd call again or write but sadly they haven't. Will give it until Friday before I go crawling back to them as I've not set anything else up with another provider.
Kicking myself for missing that call!

I cancelled Sky back in March and they rang last week eventually offering a package I was happy with for £26. (Signature HD + Movies)

Rhaegyr, could you not ring them back, saying you had a missed call? You could say you wanted to make sure that there were no problems with the cancellation.

I'm moving and tempted to switch to Sky from Virgin Media. Sky offer seemingly better value with much faster internet in the new area, and I like the idea of their wireless TV boxes for multiple rooms.
Virgin constantly putting prices up and I hate having to renegotiate all the time.
I assume Sky are just as bad though?

Virgin, in my experience, are much worse for just jacking the price up. Skys price tends to only go up when your contract ends or, as they call it, your 'discounts expire'.
Sky is, tbf, a really decent service now and one I dont mind paying for.

Agreed, my VM plan has just gone up from £29 a month to £37. Time to ring up.

Been with Virgin for yonks and they've only ever put the price up at end of contract. I do hate the whole rigmarole of re-negotiating ever 18 months but can't really complain otherwise.

Sky are the better company to deal with. I was with Virgin once after moving into a place and they were instantly binned after being so shite.

Last time I didn't bother trying to negotiate with Virgin, I just looked at the new customer offers and told them the one I wanted. The first person I spoke to couldn't offer it, so I just went ahead and started the cancellation. and then a couple of days later, I got a call where they could match the new customer deal without any back and fourth.
Sky were fine but they couldn't offer anything like the internet speeds I'm getting with Virgin.

I'm moving and tempted to switch to Sky from Virgin Media. If you are going for a new contract with Sky, it's good timing as November is the best time of year to do it, their Black Friday deals tend to be better than anything they offer at other times, particularly on Broadband. I say Black Friday but I think they run the promo through most of November.

Sky are the better company to deal with. I was with Virgin once after moving into a place and they were instantly binned after being so shite. I dont know if they have on-shored again but the difference is night and day in terms of CS. Sky largely have domestic call centers and contact staff who seem to know what they are doing and Virgin have lowest bid indian call handlers who blue screen if you put one foot off script.

That was very much my experience. Indian guy who couldn't understand why I was telling him my internet wasn't working and I wanted to cancel, as the contract was with the previous home occupant.
Though I will add I took great pleasure in calling the bluff of a Sky woman who wouldn't match the £24 offer I had elsewhere; offering £25.
"Are you really willing to lose our service over £1"
"Are you willing to lose a customer over £1?" - HANG UP.

Have they taken the option to purchase Sky Q away? Just went on to see what new customer offers are about as my renewal is up soon and I wanted to see what their best offers are and all I can see is Glass or Stream.

That was a lot less confrontational in my head. What I meant to say was, obviously I'm a thick gobshite - but I can't see any page on the site where they are selling SkyQ, has anyone else had any joy?
