As someone who's spent most of the last fifteen years making TV promos for a living, I'm tempted to write a really long blog post explaining why the ad for Piers Morgan's new show is objectively terrible. I don't think I've even seen it yet I'll always read a nice tear down.

Maybe to pass onto her grandbabies. Don't Japanese advertisements regularly hire big Hollywood actors? There was a line of old ads I recall which featured Tommy Lee Jones and a Shiba Inu. Yeah. Japanese ads are objectively horrendous though. The deal always was that the western stars could come over for a few days work, get paid a shed load, and no-one in their home countries would see the embarrassing shit they'd agreed to do for money. Back when I was in the UK, you almost never got proper celebrities doing TV ads, as it would have tarnished their image. (Other than sports stars, who had sponsorship deals). From the recent UK ads I've seen, it seems much more common for (a) UK ads to be cheap terrible ads for dodgy websites, and (b) have actual proper celebrities in them now. So maybe that taboo no longer exists. Overall though, UK ads are still a lot better than the junk here.

It's become more common in the US than it used to be. It's not uncommon to see Sam Jackson or Tina Fey in a commercial.

Not sure the bar can go any lower "Costa now serving MnS food" "Look at some disgusting feet, they can be tanned and moist" "Car shit" "Perfume shitter shit"

I like the recent B&Q one, with the house being turned upside down (literally), though I wonder how well that works in terms of increasing sales over something more obviously DIY related.
That's always the tricky balance, how much you compromise a story idea to show product.

That's always the tricky balance, how much you compromise a story idea to show product. The fact is, you've told me about it, and I was previously unaware. That's sown the little subconscious seed and, when I next think of DIY, I might remember this chat and "B & Q" will loom large in my thoughts...

Alternatively, my wife saw that ad and thought it was about a woman abandoning her family to trade them in for a nicer one.

Piers Morgan - love me or hate me you won't want to miss me.
Nah I was perfectly happy not hearing from you all these months.

Its such basic tryhard trolling too. Not even anything actually provocative or funny.

That's always the tricky balance, how much you compromise a story idea to show product. The current issue of Private Eye covered it. It cost over two million in production costs alone. Don’t worry about the need to increase sales, they had a good COVID. Profits: 2019: £103m 2020: £756m 2021: £1bn+

The one telling you that your dream home is a lie is a bit of an odd message, but the fact that everything in the house is fake and made out of cake and/or people in weird transforming costumes is cool.
My kids think the one with the mini dude whose head is in a watch face is funny.
I didn't actually pay attention to which companies the ads are for though, so I'm not actually sure how effective they are.
Kudos to McVities for actually making 'sponsored by' ads that are kinda funny, and not so repetitive and annoying that you want to blow your brains out. (see: Coors Sponsors Channel4 Comedy ads)

That is her? Wtf is she doing advertising shit like that. She's supposed to be a pop star. Does she desperately need cash to feed her crack habit, like Judi Dench?

She's supposed to be a pop star. They always whore out for a dollar or 2. Saves the bother of creating something worthwhile.

I understand why low level celebrities take the money to endorse stuff. They tend to get relatively low pay and are likely to have a pretty short shelf life, so it makes sense for them to make the most of their ability to earn.
But I don't get why big stars would bother. Surely they already have enough money, and they can get more money just by investing what they have. All it does is make them look cheap and look like they're either desperate for cash or short on money.
Whatever opinions one might have on Katy Perry's music, she surely doesn't *need* to do it. When we need cash, we often don't have the luxury of being selective about what we do. These guys surely have that luxury, so it just strikes me as odd.

That Strongbow one with the goat and the purple. Annoying as I find it a strangely compelling and effective ad yet it's for a grotty cider flavoured with - presumably - oven cleaner or blackcurrant & I get flashbacks to teenage experiments with cider & black. There was sooooo much vomit. And such a disturbing colour.

Honestly not sure, cider + something coded purple in advertising speak so I guessed blackcurrant. And yep, Rock City carpets were a legend we all left our mark on

I think the world has demonstrated many times that that there is no such thing as "enough money". The more you get, the more you want.

It's been around a while, but the EE family "landing" the plane really bugs me. They make it sound like something that is incredible that could only be done over their ~900Mbps internet.
Really though, they are just receiving a video, sending and receiving voice, and receiving coordinates. If it weren't for the video (which they don't really need) it could probably be done over dial-up.
Plus, they have actual air traffic control workers presumably doing it, so the daughter's "I can't believe we landed a plane!" is rubbish. They just stood there gawping at a big screen.
Now they've started doing a behind the scenes version of this supposedly amazing feat.

Just eat paid Snoop Dog £5.3million for his advert. I'd imagine she'll collect similar, doesn't sound like a bad business decision.
Given the "service charges" and delivery fees keep increasing with all the main players they have plenty of money to burn. I certainly preferred not paying £4 - 5 for delivery.

Why does every UK supermarket ad say that they price match Aldi? Surely they are all just advertising Aldi?

I reckon it’s subliminal. Remember that journey into the second circle of hell that was Aldi on a Saturday afternoon? You can get Aldi prices without having to go an Aldi store.

Yeah I've never been able to buy anything I want in Aldi, the place gets stripped faster than they can stock the shelves in jolly E17.
