I did like the Zendaya line. But yeah, even the fun stuff the show usually does well, just isn't as fun to me right now. The tone is shifting all over the fucking place, there's too many storylines they're unsuccessfully trying to juggle, And it's just getting nastier and nastier. The writing isn't as good for me. It's almost as if plotlines are there to build up to the inevitable shock scene, where someone's head explodes etc, rather than anything overly interesting. I do think anything with Homelander is gold though.

Some of it drags it down but overall I'm still very much enjoying it. S1 and 2 were the same but they still had all the 'shock' factor bits. But yeah still really enjoying it and don't care about it being close to reality. It still has all the other OTT stuff to keep it going and this episode had a good amount of comedy.

I thought the episode was a bit weird to be honest. As with the other scenes with Ashley they seem to be painting S&M as something to be ridiculed. Just feels like if one was into that sort of thing (which I’m not personally) you’d feel targeted by it. Look at all these arseholes and their deviant behaviour etc.
Also the tone of Hughie’s predicament was weird. Felt like it was played for laughs, but he’s getting sexually assaulted and is almost raped until he’s saved at the last minute. Like.. come on dudes.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty shit, tbh. It fell in love with itself and dragged on a series too long. Nothing is really happening and every episode is just a set up for that one gag where they tell us how zany they are.

Like the heartwarming goodbye scene between him and his dad, as they... secretly euthanise him? In a hospital where people are actively searching for them? This is after his dad killed like four innocent people, which is an incident that apparently nobody (like, say, the police) cared about afterwards, because look they're fighting flying sheep lol how random is that. Even Hughie and his mum are basically back to normal next episode, after - and I cannot stress this enough - after his dad KILLED FOUR INNOCENT PEOPLE. I feel like the cops might have some questions about that! Like, wtf is going on. Is the show just a bit of fun nonsense, or isn't it. I feel like it needs to pick a lane, or at least not have euthanasia straight after comedy flying sheep.

Why is it nearly every 'shock' involves someone's anus?

I was so utterly shocked by the development that Jeffrey Dean Morgan was entirely in his head all along. Feels like they dragged that on for a few too many episodes. Everybody guessed it ages ago, there's no need for a fucking montage. And yeah, that was a bit of a jarring episode with the Hughie stuff.

Yeah Hughie seems to just be getting tossed into weird and random situations each episode now. Certainly don't have an issue at them poking fun at people into bondage and the like. I mean nobody is safe from a bit of prodding in the show, so not sure why they would lol. Is their women fiddling themselves while tickling someone? Probably lol.
Bit weird that a rape torture was kinda played for laughs though.

There's been some good stuff this season but also some total crap. I really don't need to see any more kink shaming of their sex lives.

In the comic he gets molested by Noir Not saying it was needed in the show. I was so utterly shocked by the development that Jeffrey Dean Morgan was entirely in his head all along. The one thing they should have actually shown was Ezekels death.

Whilst watching the latest episode it dawned on me that Ashley really reminds me of Laura Kuenssberg, it made the viewing experience even more surreal...

In the comic he gets molested by Noir Not saying it was needed in the show. I know the received wisdom is that the comics are inferior in every way but that scene actually serves a purpose in showing just how powerless hughie is and it badly freaks him out. Also, yeah, the stuff about his dad was laughably bad. It was so stupid, every second of it undercut any emotional impact it might have had.

It's dumb that they decided all that needed to happen for him to admit not being okay about what happened in the previous episode.

I'm enjoying it, but in a sense of brainless entertainment now. It's gone from a fairly unsubtle and unnuanced satire to just full on "hey what if MTG had super powers, ps sex and violence". I get that they felt the need to pivot due to some folks just not getting it and thinking Homelander is a good guy, but it feels way too far in the other direction where it's like a bad SNL sketch at times.

It plays like the writing room is just a drawn out version of that Always Sunny episode where Mac and Charlie make a movie and just yes every stupid idea the other comes up with until they've got a detective that's a walking nose played by Dolph Lundgren going around smelling crime. They need someone in that room to say no to about 30% of the shit they come up with. It's trying too hard to shock or just being too stupid too much of the time now. Still enjoying it more than I'm not, although I'm only up to episode 5.

I guess I'm pretty oblivious to it in that sense as to me, it's always been fucking nuts and ott. The show definitely is on the decline. I miss Soldier boy and Queen Maeve. I also preferred Black Noir when he was mute.

I also wanted to mention that, for someone with superhuman intelligence, Sage seems surprisingly dumb. Maybe it will be revealed that everything was all planned in advance or something like that, but right now she's pretty fucking bad at this whole scheming thing.

All her stuff has been working though. Apart from after taking a bullet to the head nearly costing them getting everyone's backing.
She's been setting others up all season. Likely already knows A-Train has been helping the Boys and my guess is trying to get rid of some of the 7.

I guess she hasn't really had to try all that much, given that most of the people she works with are the dumbest people alive. But it doesn't feel like she's *that* smart.
It also doesn't help that her motivation is apparently "I cured cancer and nobody cared, death to humans!" Feels a bit... I don't know, petty?

Probably will turn out she’s a bit like my brother, an example of why intelligence and wisdom are two separate stats (although I’m pretty sure the subtext is that she has her own agenda of just fucking everything and everyone up for the sake of it)

Well, that episode was better. The satire still makes me want to eat a bullet (the assassination is going to be on January 6, DO YOU GET IT?), but the plot threads are at least starting to come together. And there's more octo-Tilda.

Though seriously Homelander, while I applaud you for finally, finally fucking going "oh hey, why don't we just go kill Butcher instead of continuing to not do that", it really feels like something you should have done yourself.

Not bad at all but they definitely needed to wrap it up with S5 with how this season has gone. Also amazon giving away the return a couple days ago by releasing a video about said character was dumb . S5 coming 2026

Well I enjoyed this season. Sure, it's treading water story wise but I'd rather watch The Boys treading water than a lot of the other tosh that's out there.
My only criticism is that they didn't follow through on some of the character arcs they were leaning towards.

Yeah, feels like they had too many plates spinning. Loads of threads just went absolutely nowhere. Frenchie going to prison and then... Ah fuck it we'll just release him with no fanfare because he needs to work on the latest McGuffin.
MM's life threaten... Ah fuck it, we'll just forget about that and carry on as normal.
Hughie's traumatic experience followed by him breaking down and admitting he's not OK, and then absolutely nothing connected to that for the rest of the season (unless I've missed something) He's effectively been raped 20 times in the last episode, but lolz he had two fingers up his bum! I still mostly enjoyed it anyway, but glad it's hopefully coming to an end with S5.
