I believe Homelander grew up and got his injections in a lab, but Starlight, for instance, was injected by her mom?
So both versions.
Also the temorary powers come from what they call "Temporary V" which seems like a different thing and will kill after a few doses...

So after 3 episodes of Gen V... yeah, I'll watch more of this. Some of the Very Special Episode elements are a bit on-the-nose, but it's Degrassi High with gore! That's pretty good! Though (episode 1 spoilers) I wish Clancy Brown was in it more. |

Its like YA xmen academy but with the boys level of blood, swearing and gore. I think having the background of The boys tv show lifts up as if you take that out then it would be very generic. Quick rewrite and it could be xmen
Still watch the rest but will not watch it again like the main show

I wouldn't call it "smart", but they have woven in stuff like self-harm, eating disorders, mental health and gender quite well without it feeling too forced. I like it, although I'm hoping it's a one and done side project. Wonder if they'll address what happened to Dusty... they just sort of forgot about him after he got zapped in Cate's mind. |

I was a bit disappointed about the lack of Tek Knight. Sure, he's mostly a "hey, look at this famous comic character, well guess what THEY'RE A SEX PERVERT" archetype that Garth Ennis seems weirdly obsessed with, but the TV version seemed to have a bit more going on with the interrogation stuff. He's a better villain than Dean Shetty.

I don't know for sure, but my guess is 'no'. There are appearances from characters in the main series, and there are plot developments that might become important. But imo nothing that couldn't be addressed in a scene or two.

Eh, it has its moments, it's not that different to the main series. Same gratuitous violence, same humour, same sledgehammer-to-the-face social satire.
I'm not going to pretend it's A+ 10/10. But if you like the main series, you'll probably have a good time.

It's decent, though the gratuitous violence kind of works against it. Some of the shock moments feel forced and undermine the character development.
It's also got a Young Adult vibe that can grate a little.
