So, UK plugs are the best?
But is the jury still out about 240v Vs 110v?
Metric is superior to Imperial, but is there room for improvement?
And time, looking forward, how best to count / measure it? Who doesn't like a system developed by Babylonians and formalised by Egyptians and Romans!

Saw a good video about the history of Celsius last night. Originally 100c was the freezing point of water and 0c was the boiling point. A few years ago they changed it so Celsius is now set by kelvin. Anyway, I think we should switch to Kelvin

We should definitely get rid of British Summer Time or whichever one means I get an extra hour in bed. Always screws up my already screwed up sleep.
I've started measuring lots of things using cups now. I'm blaming the Americans for that one.

Measuring with volume is way better for most recipes, makes it substantially easier to scale up or down.

It can't be a recipe unless you tell me a twee story about how your Grandma thought up this recipe on the boat over to whatever country you currently live in.

Wow, that's a great video and a nifty Veritasium subscribe for me!! It was a very pleasurable 287 Kelvin out today, I even left my coat at home.

Why on earth would we start using kelvin in regular life though? When the water boils for my tea? When's it going to be icy outside? Actual useful human scale things at 0 and 100. Fahrenheit is just shit though. The 2 things aren't relatable to each other as they're not even the same chemical being measured. If I squint I could sort of see 100F means its hotter than your body outside so FUCKING HOT, 0F salt water freezing... err? Docks and bays are going to freeze up? Maybe?

Itās more like 230V, by the way. Hasnāt really been 240V for years, IIRC.

UK plugs are the best? But US plugs are interchangeable with Japan, Mexico and Canada. UK plugs aren't useable anywhere else, to my knowledge.

A couple of years ago, Europe was apparently planning to scrap DST, and the UK would have followed suit due to the land border with Ireland. Plans currently on hold, it is said.

Yeah, we were supposed to stop changing time around in 2022. No ETA now. Itās a very silly thing, changing the time twice a year. That said, 7 pm in here is something completely different to 7 pm in Spain.
The metric system rules, though I see the appeal of non-scientifically vetted units. Kind of like the Euro replacing the national currencies, so impersonal.

Ireland, Saudi, Dubai, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Ghana, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Burma, Malaysia, Singapore. Bunch of others. I'd hazard a guess more people actually use British plugs then American ones world wide.

It's a veritable who's who of colonies still administered from the UK when electrical standardisation happened (hence no Canada, Australia etc) plus Ireland (where there's always been dual-citizenship deals and presumably power lines across the border even before the EU) and for some reason the Middle East (no idea).

From Wikipedia:
1 second is the duration of 9192631770 periods of radiation produced by transition of an electron between two hyperfine levels of a Cesium- 133 atom
And Japan has 2 different electrical grids running at different voltages.

We just don't need to do it anymore and that Sunday where you lose an hour of sleep is legit the worst day of the year.

~110v is the reason Americans canāt use kettles Is it only the UK and Ireland that needs boiling hot water 6 to 8 times a day for tea, thus necessitating a specific device for the job? I think the rest of the world uses their stove top?

I think it's probably worth accepting the Americans are just wrong.
Spelling, dates, electricity, elections, gun laws, ammo caliber, driving on the wrong side of the road, no tea, a hundred types of cheese that all taste the same, Florida...
(I'm kidding, of course)

Boiling water on a gas stove is just massively inefficient, takes forever to boil a pm for pasta, rice etc

Talking about standards and linking to the news that France's language academy has set an edict about proper French words for streaming and eSports etc is occured to me that one of any languages strengths is to not have standards set in stone and to allow a language to develop and evolve, bringing in new words from other languages and allowing existing words to change meaning and pronunciation.
