That cycle diagram is fucking dumb. You may as well show a linear progression of liberalism or the march to socialism on a graph.

Then it'd turn out your girlfriend was a soviet useful idiot and before you know it you're in a Le Carre novel trying to get over the Berlin Wall.

At the very least you finally get to wear a Che Guevara shirt in the proper setting.

Also, if you can't afford to buy and frame the poster, would printing off a copy and blu-tacking it to the bedroom wall have the same effect? Asking for me.

"Our President had to explain what a tariff is". Because the forthcoming President sure won't. And heaven forbid you take 10 secs to look it up yourself before voting.

Hot take - the tariffs won't happen, or at least not to the extent he's made it seem. They just made for a good voter pitch because they're easy to mislead on what they are and make them sound impressive. Like the "Mexico will pay for the wall!" stuff.

They probably won’t happen, no, because he’s in the pocket of business. Lots of the other shit will happen though. The massive racist immigrant round up will happen. The subversion of the justice system will happen. The betrayal of Ukraine will happen. The ethnic cleansing of Gaza will happen. The dismantling of the UN and any international action on the climate will happen.

Thing is, Biden kept the tariffs that Trump introduced, and even introduced some more (and argued against the wto in the process) so you can see how that could back trumps argument about tariffs.

There'll be some trade war stuff, sure, but not to the sheer extent of "let's replace income tax with tariffs"
I doubt he'll remove taxes on tips either, which was his spiel for a little while.

Didn’t the Dems keep the ICE round-ups and prison camps running too? Most the promises that Trump will “keep” are probably just going to be rebranding and boasting about things that he either started last time, that Biden has done, or both.

Maybe wonder why and how any UN peacekeeping mission fails to achieve said peace? Just like the WHO showcased a complete inability to do anything remotely usefull the past 4 years ever since it has been dominated by chinese influence. I do worry he will make any chance on climate action impossible. What people REALLY should worry about is two things: Deep sea mining and eroding the future of the antartica treaty (he will see it as a way to make "deals") Both of these will lead to tipping points for environmental systems (use of cyanide in order to deep sea mine should be of everyones concern).

To a certain extent I presume things like solar panels just getting cheaper and US capitalist companies trying to cash in on building this stuff for profit will probably still happen. If starting a new coal mine is more expensive they're not going to do it.
Big tech are currently buying modular nuclear reactors to get their emissions down to 0.
Unless Trump activily subsidises things it'll still go on. Though it likely won't accelerate the way it needs to.

The day after the 2016 results, I overheard someone in our work cafeteria go “can’t wait to serve a hot cup of get the fuck out to all the immigrants who work here”, so it’s not surprising.

The result has given them the green light, he doesn't need to be President. When all the charges against him get punted into the Sun that'll confirm it for a lot of people.

The sanctions thing is morbidly interesting.
On the one hand, I understand that the economic orthodoxy says it won't work. The US has a low savings rate so domestic consumption is so high you're going to suck in demand from abroad, sanctions will put up prices and therefore either suppress demand or be inflationary. Inflation -> higher interest rates -> strengthening of the dollar -> cheaper imports -> negating the impact of the tariffs as goods priced in foreign currencies are now cheaper in dollar terms.
To reduce the deficit, you'd have to reduce domestic consumer demand (which is bad for an economy entirely built around consumption).
HOWEVER, economic orthodoxy is based on people acting in their own best interests. Trump views trade deficits of a country like the profit and loss account for a company, which is wrong-headed according to economic thinking. When the biggest economy in the world decides to go "Bitch, I'm a bus" wrt to economic convention....how does that pan out?
