The options are 'do something' or 'do nothing because its too hard'. Obviously there is no easy answer and nothing happens overnight but we are manifestly in a slow motion car crash and we are a bit beyond just adjusting the seat belt. Or worse you campaign on doing nothing while telling people with shit lives that actually they’re wrong and things are good right now like Harris did.

So it looks like the LHC actually reset the timeline. We had Hitler on meth at the 1936 Berlin games, so now we'll get Elon on Ket at the 2028 LA games.

These are all just waves on the surface. The real problems are wealth concentration and of course the fundamental problem of how we're destroying the ecosystem we live in. But these problems have gotten WAYYYYYY too big to even start thinking about. So we focus on immediate problems like house prices and petrol. But it doesn't matter that you can take the next two waves, when you're swimming away from the shore.

Surely, if some of the general indicators of economic health are looking good (job creation etc), you are going to make that clear? Maybe they didn't do a good enough job of addressing the disconnect between how people actually felt and what those indicators showed, but if people are screaming that the economy is going down the pan, pointing out that that viewpoint isn't borne out by the metrics that have historically been used to identify whether that is actually the case seems to me like an entirely reasonable stance.

Infrastructure, particularly on a big scale, usually takes longer than one term, and governments usually only have the one now. Apart from the 3+ term Conservatives just gone and the 3+ term Labour Government before that. The problem is enabling a change of leadership so easily and regularly. That's what causes resets and short term, personal gain policies. Exactly. Give the money and decisions to more local areas with minimal oversight just to stop the ridiculous things happening. Take the decisions away from government, let them get the praise if they want. Some other countries manage it, we aren’t special.

Yeah, you do actually need to know how to talk to regular people, in a way that isn't condescending. And preferably also doesn't require them to have a college degree to understand wtf you're saying.

Immigration and identity politics plays a part too but those are really the kind of hot button issues that motivate an existing base. Realising your weekly shop is $50 more than it used to be and your pay hasn’t gone up in three years, that’s what kills an incumbent. “Is your life better now than it was four years ago?” Its such a perfect question to set off as a brainworm among the electorate if you’re an opposition candidate.

Trump is a bit like a PS5 Pro. Does the same job as the previous person, but slightly more expensive and controversial.

It's also a bit fucked because people think "controlling inflation" means lowering prices, when what it really means is slowing down the rate by which prices increase. They still increase!

The way he looks nowadays even getting to the World Cup 26 is a stretch Even if he's alive I'd imagine there's a good chance he'd have been 25th'd by then. Vance is younger, mentally fit, less of a loose cannon and still very much willing to push through all the legislation their handlers want, and having Trump around as a personality/figurehead isn't going to matter as much with the Congress sweep, SCOTUS support etc. I could see the more level-headed cunts in the party wanting to be rid of him at some point before he croaks (maybe after two years to make sure it doesn't count as a term for Vance and sidestep the 22nd amendment), and assuming they don't go as far as abolishing term limits he can't be reelected anyway, so...

It’s like the weasel ‘GDP per Capita is rising’ metric the tories always tried to spin. If you take out the top 10% of earners, it’s actually falling for 90% of the population and people notice that (eventually)

The thing I'd like political parties to do more generally, is to say "actually, immigration is good", and just fucking make the (correct) case for why it is good. Yes, it needs to be controlled, yes, border security is a thing. And yes, I know that is not a winning political argument.
But it's been so long since I've heard any major political figure go to bat for it, I think people might enjoy the novelty of someone who isn't in a competition about who can be the toughest xenophobic dickhead. IMMIGRANTS BUILT YOUR COUNTRY

IMMIGRANTS BUILT YOUR COUNTRY I don't think that works in America where people actively try to deny the fact that it was built on slavery and the subjugation of minorities. Apparently pointing that out is err racist and makes kids ashamed to be white.

What I would like someone to do regarding immigration is be honest about it. Immigration is required if you want the economy to grow, birth rates are falling and lower skilled, low pay jobs are filled by immigrants who do the jobs you won't do because you won't accept the low pay and terribleconditions. We won't force businesses to increase that pay because of our economic ideology so get fucked and if we got rid of all immigration our country would collapse overnight.

I'd assumed that, 24+ hours later, I would've thought of something more detailed to add to the above; however, I really haven't.
In the spirit of modern politics, then, I'm going to repeat the exact same thing but louder:
For FUCK'S SAKE.
