I’m doing healthy eating and no alcohol in January, hoping I can keep the ‘naughty meals’ to less than one a week after that.
Also more exercise, even if that’s one 30 minute walk a day. I’ll rejoin the gym if I’m forced into the office (there’s one that’s a 5 minute walk from my work site that I went to pre pandemic).
Got to get rid of the 6lbs gained in the last two months.

Maybe I’ll start getting dressed in the week again. I said the same thing last year though so probably not. Wfh ftw.

Re: audiobooks. Covid has actually made it impossible to listen on my commute as I now go by bike. My job may be a little unusual in that I get random breaks of 5-30 minutes on some dates, so I often listen to audiobooks during those, or if I pop across the road to the convenience store to get coffee, or while eating lunch. It did take me about 4 tries to click with them, but I never really had the issue of not being able to focus. It was more that I started by attempting to listen to some 'classic novels' that turned out to be quite slow paced and hard work to listen to. Audiobooks can be slower paced than reading anyway, so that compounded the issue. But once I found a few more pulpy or fast paced books, it worked really well. The only issue I sometimes have is when things like fantasy novels have dozens of characters with complex names... it can be hard to remember who's who. I think seeing the names in print helps you to visualize and memorize them. I guess that's also why lots of fantasy books have coats of arms and family trees at the beginning! Anyway, recommended new year's resolution: Work on focus and concentration

I'm quitting the sauce. I'm dependant so I have to taper down over a weekish, starting today. Got a plan, got distractions and got nytol, just need that willpower to hold up Day 2 went ok. I'm over the plan but I didn't find more like the rotten addict that I am.

Like others have said I need to drink less and exercise more. And when I've done that and I'm all swole I'll work my way through FG's list of desirable women, Finnish PM, Emma Watson, princesses from Frozen etc.

I found cycling a good way to loose weight. I was mid 80kgs at one point and now 68kg. It can be hard to have the motivation to go out but been quite lucky in the village I live in a few people meet up and now go out with them. The group as grown from 6/7 to 12. Most Sundays we do a 40-50 mile ride with 10 or so of us. Keeps me fit as well as having a opportunity to socialise. So I really recommend doing that.
So I guess my news years resolution will revolve doing a set number of miles for the year and doing a sportive or something.
Otherwise I like to regain a bit more control on finances. COVID as done a number there. Also want to stop wasting time and do more stuff. Which will probably conflict with the first part of trying to save money but we’ll see.

I have been cycling more, i might start doing the Bristol-Bath cycle parh once a week, decent 30 mile round trip.
In theory finding a riding group or a running group would help motivate me, but honestly I like the solitude when I'm out by myself.

The usual: get back to regular running and eat better
The new: read more books. I used to read lots of books but haven't done so in the past five years or so. Need to get back to it.
The maybe: take Spanish lessons (again)

Really want to run a marathon this year, and hopefully by the summer. Need to get out running again, as well as getting back into a gym.

My new year resolution will be the same as the last two years and I will try to learn Spanish. I'm still only A1 level at best, which is shit after two years of an hour a day 5 days a week. My problem is that (I can't remember if I mentioned it in the old place) I still have a bit of brain damage from when I got a kicking and a couple of concussions back when I was 13 and my memory doesn't work great. Reason why I failed all my exams too as it took me to early 20s to get back up to 60-65% average memory retention. Last test in November put me at 80% after hovering around 70% since so maybe I'll have a better chance this time. Even though I've made next to no gains in Spanish I think it might be the main reason for my percentage boost so I want to stick with it even just for that.
Will try to get healthier too, not necessarily weight wise. Dropped from 88kg to 57kg in less than a month unplanned due to some stomach issues but they are sorted, I'm two years clear and I'm happy being around 75kg now, so hoping I can raise my fitness since even a short walk knackers me currently.
Basically this year I'm aiming for touch ups rather than improvements.

I don't drink or smoke anymore and my BMI is pretty much in check. So I'm gonna save up for a sporty little weekend runabout,10 maybe 15 years old and not very eco friendly. To reward myself for hitting 50 later in the year.

I must cut back on the sauce also this year. I drink far too much and will also probably have to be a taper off. Actually go to the gym consistantly after losing all my gainz from pre covid. Get my mind in check and start playing my guitar again.

Day 3 ok. Still higher than the plan, but I'm not getting silly and I'm on a downward trend. I'm still on the fourth beer at 11.20pm whereas a week or two ago that would have been gone by 9, latest
Painting is helping a lot. The time just goes

Well done Danno. It's the long haul that's important and each day you consciously reduce is one in the right direction. If you slip, it's not "back to day 1, so what's the point, might as well have a bender", it's "one bad day out of 7 good, tomorrow let's make that one bad day out of 8".
You'll have slips, but as long as you have more positive days than negative, then you'll get there.

Oh and don't forget to drink lots of water. It makes you less thirsty. I also found alcohol free beers and soft drinks (all my favourites from when I was a kid) helped.
Remember also HALT (hungry, angry, lonely, tired). Have any of those affecting you and you're susceptible to temptation, so try and avoid them.

Thanks kids. It's hard at times - im posting from my front door right now and I could easily pop to the shop, but I reckon I can kill it off this time.
ETA: I'm not crossing the threshold, just having a little nicotine break

Still higher on drinks than planned, but I'm essentially sober and wondering why I bothered to get booze in the first place. This seems positive.
